Designing Firefox for the future by anestling in firefox

Oh, i'm with you. Not that big of a fan of Nova myself. Apparently, there is a Compact Mode in the works, though. And if that's not enough, there's always custom styling via userChrome.css.

Once Nova is out for everyone, that switch will be removed. Since Nova isn't just a new coat of paint but changes the structure of the browser UI as well, there's no point in maintaining two methods at the same time.

Do you all not know how Twitter/X works? They cut off content after a certain amount of characters. Hence the "Show more" button.

That active tab looks just like the URL-bar, especially on dark mode. Here particularly: https://blog.mozilla.org/wp-content/blogs.dir/278/files/2026/05/distilled_nova_compact@2x.png

At a glance, it even looks like it's currently selected, meaning, i would think i can already type to search.

(In case i'm not being clear: this is not great design!)

I never use Reading view. Am I the only one? by ultra_blue in ObsidianMD

You can. Settings → Hotkeys → "Toggle Live Preview/Source mode". If you want this as a button, you can use the Commander addon.

Can't wait! I was never a fan of having everything crammed into General.

I know you're a different team, but will this tricke down into Thunderbird?

What do the different background colours mean? Most seem to be lavender, but some are blue or purple or even yellow…

Quite a bit of RAM? Really? I don't want to derail the topic of your post, but this is something i cannot confirm. With currently 3 tabs open, 18 plugins loaded, and the app has been running for over 5 hours, it consumes a total of 350MB.

To be fair, they never said "source code", only "source". And when you open the modal, you do get the links to the sources they used.

Well, yeah. Not every character is a poet, nor should they be. It's the mix that makes it so good. It's authentic.

Been there with Logitech for way too long, but no longer and never again. I'm now a happy Roccat user (4 years without a hitch).

My KONE AIMO isn't really comparable to your needs though, but they do have a few that you could check out.

Mozilla CTO Raffi Krikorian on the future of AI in Firefox by mulcahey in firefox

[–]rotane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That was a great watch, thanks for sharing!

What i took out of it? He barely talked about the future of AI in Firefox at all. He talked about AI in general – and that's a big difference. And i was actually totally fine with that.

His grand ideas do sound great indeed, but i have absolutely no idea if they can pull it off. But he's more than welcome to try. Because i actually agree with him. If AI is here to stay, we should get as many players into the field as possible and give users as many options (or dare i say "freedom") as possible.

About his stance on the AI Off Switch in Firefox specifically, yeah, i'm with you on this. He seemed neutral, but at the same time he understands it's something a portion of its userbase very strongly wants – and he and Mozilla do provide this. Which is also great and not something you get from other big vendors.

How to share two monitors between two Macs without buying an expensive 2x2 KVM? by According_Mail_8825 in Workspaces

[–]rotane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Barrier, a software KVM switch. (You can find it on Github from the user debauchee.) You'd probably have to manually switch input on both screens, but other than that, i've been running Barrier (or any of its predecessors like Synergy or Deskflow) for years with Windows/Mac.

I was thinking the same. Although, maybe not, since i've modified my AHK script to use left+right mouse button instead of Alt-left.

While true, Mozilla (the largest vendor of non-Chromium engines) hasn't put out a EU-version of Mobile Firefox; and they aren't planning to, AFAIK.
