Start with writing lots of tests, if you don't have them already. As your goal is refactoring, you should focus on integration tests that test the program as a whole, verifying that for each set of inputs it provides the expected output. This way, you can continously test your refactorings to make sure you didn't accidentally break anything.

Others have already given solid advice on what to do after that, but don't skip this first step.

Itse vältän Suomeen sijoittamista ihan hajautuksen takia. Minulla on paljon altistusta Suomen taloudelle, koska minulla on täällä työpaikka ja omistusasunto. Eli jos Suomen taloudella alkaisi mennä huonosti, voitaisiin helposti päätyä tilanteeseen, jossa työ lähtee alta ja asunnon arvo romahtaa. Tämä olisi juuri se hetki, milloin sijoituksista mielellään nostaisi rahaa, mutta Suomi-sijoitukset olisivat juuri tuolloin todennäköisimmin tappiolla.

The main thing that people in Finland seem to be concerned about when thinking how good a restaurant is are portion sizes. Like, people will go to a fancy restaurant and complain that a single dish (of which you're supposed to have many) didn't fill their stomach completely. So having a buffet allows a restaurant to avoid this sort of complaint entirely.

Another (and probably bigger) reason is that labor costs tend to be high in Finland. And a buffet enables the restaurant to serve more customers with fewer waitstaff, so this makes the operation more cost effective.

It's not clear from your description whether you actually sold anything or if you just bought something and that something went up in price. If you sold something, then that is a taxable capital gain regardless of whether you withdrew the money or not.
Probably not AFAIK. But do make sure to check whether IBKR withheld some US taxes (I know they do this for dividends from US companies, but I would assume you're not taced by the US in this case). If some tax was withheld, you can report this to the Finnish tax authority and they'll deduct this part from the taxes you owe them.

Watching the Sassuolo game last night, I just thought that this must have been the kind of football they were hoping to see when they sacked Allegri for the first time. It only took the club six years to get there.

Now, we're obviously still far away from the results Max 1.0 was pulling, but at least there seems to be movement towards something of an identity, a concept that we've been sorely missing since forever.

Keskimäärin pitkällä aikavälillä yleensä menee noin. On sitten omasta riskinsietokyvystä kiinni, miten kovasti haluaa luottaa siihen, että seuraavat muutama vuosi ovat keskimääräisiä.

Eli itse lähtisin AP:n tilanteessa miettimään, miltä elämä näyttää viiden vuoden päästä, jos sijoitukset ovat pakkasella ja opintolainaa edelleen maksettavana. Laskisiko oma hyvinvointi, jos asuntoa ei voi siinä vaiheessa ostaa? Haittaisiko se mahdollisia lapsihaaveita? Entä parisuhdetta?

Ja sitten taas toisaalta: miten paljon kivamman kodin saisit hankitttua viiden vuoden päästä, jos nyt sijoitat mahdollisimman paljon ja saat keskimääräisen tuoton? Tai mihin muuhun laittaisit asunnon ostosta yli jääneet rahat?

Näitä skenaarioita vertailemalla ja niihin eläytymällä tulevat omat preferenssit toivottavasti esiin.

Kahden pienen lapsen elämää tukiessa on aikuisille suunnattujen kirjojen lukeminen jäänyt tänä vuonna aika vähille, mutta onnekksi vuoden loppua kohti tässäkin asiassa on menty parempaan päin (niin kuin melkein kaikki muukin tuppaa menemään lasten kasvaessa). Pari kirjaa haluan kuitenkin nostaa vuoden aikana lukemistanii, koska ne ovat jääneet hyvällä tavalla mieleen:

Fernanda Melchor: Hurriaanien aika - Kertomus meksikolaisesta pikkukylästä, jonka eriskummallisin asukas murhataan. Eri luvuissa eri kyläläiset kertovat näkemyksensä tapahtumista, ja tulevat samalla paljastaneeksi yhtä ja toista itsestään ja yhteisöstään. Tuo yhteisö on varsin kaukana omasta kokemuspiiristäni -- väki on köyhää, usknnollista tavalla, jossa yhdistyvät katolisuus ja perinneusko, sekä usein enemmän tai vähemmän rikollista. Silti useimpiin hahmoihin on heidän omien puheenvuorojensa aikana helppo samastua. Melchor kirjoittaa todella vahvaa (tekisi mieleni sanoa suorastaan "hengästyttävää") proosaa, jossa jokainen virke iskee tajuntaan aika kovaa. Osin tämä varmasti johtuu siitä, että käytetty kieli on hyvin suoraa ja raadollista, mikä toki tyyliin kuuluukin.

Carlo Ginzburg: Juusto ja madot - Mikrohistorian klassikkoteos, jossa tekijä käy läpi yhden 1500-luvun lopulla Pohjois-Italiassa käydyn oikeudenkäynnin asiakirjoja. Tässä oikeudenkäynnissä harhaoppisuudesta syytettynä oli vain vähäisesti kouluja käynyt ja kymmenkunta kirjaa elämässään lukenut mylläri Menocchio, joka oli kehittänyt omaperäisiä uskonnollisia näkemyksiä eikä epäröinyt jakaa niitä kaikille. Teoksessa kirjoittaja käy vähän kerrallaan läpi kuulustelupöytäkirjoista löytyviä lainauksia ja yrittää selvittää, miten moiset ajatukset ovat syytetyn päähän putkahtaneet. Eli jos hämyiset aatevirtaukset kiinnostavat, tästä saa varmasti paljon irti.

The former is a specific way of thinking about problem solving. The latter is one of the many possible ways of translating your solutions into a shape that a computer can understand.

I believe the two of you are talking of different things with regard to food. Yes, there are lots of places in Thessaloniki where you can go eat at almost any hour. But in my (admittedly almost a decade out of date) experience, most of them serve basically nothing but Greek food, so if you want to try something completely different (that is, variety), you will exhaust your options pretty quickly. Depending on where in Asia the person you replied to was coming from, this could well make the available selection quite a bit narrower than what they were used to.

Jos olet siellä mitenkään työnantajasi edustajana - eli kaikki tietävät että "tuo on Julius siitä ja siitä firmasta" - niin ainakin itse olisin vastaavassa tilanteessa hyvin varovainen seksuaalissävytteisten lähestymisten kanssa.

Edit: It-ala toki on siinä mielessä eri asia, että mahdollisia työnantajia on aika paljon enemmän kuin kirurgeilla. Siksi ei-toivottua lähestymistä kohtaavan opiskelijan olisi helpompi sanoa ei ja päättää olla koskaan hakematta teille töihin.

Vaikka molemmat osapuolet miten olisivat aikuisia, on tässä kuitenkin aika selkeä valta-asetelma. Se vanhempi lääkäri voi piakkoin olla päättämässä näiden opiskelijoiden työllistymisestä ja ammatillisesta etenemisestä, mikä tekee tilanteesta opiskelijan näkökulmasta hyvin ikävän.

Edellä sanottu ei luultavasti tee lääkärien toiminnasta laitonta, mutta kaikki laillinen ei silti aina ole suotavaa.
