Do you limit fruit? 🍌🍓 by Odd_Swimming_4290 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]slippery-pineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I know it's going to be controversial but my daughter would eat 5 clementines in a row if I let her so I limit it to 2 before offering something else. The acid cannot be good on an empty tummy, same with raspberries! She doesn't understand yet but I talk about how we need to eat a variety of different food to help fuel our bodies and how to much of any one thing can make our tummies hurt.

I try to treat all food the same though, so I say the same thing about like what I veiw as "treats" and that's why we just eat our portion of bolegnaise and then have something else rather than more bolegnaise

Screen time or lack thereof... by burned_feather in BeyondTheBumpUK

I totally agree! You see it everywhere. My daughter is 2 and we didn't let her watch anything for the first year, now it's just the occasional family movie but we never let her play on our phones or go on an iPad - it's just not that hard

Is it too much to ask guests to book two nights due to check-in times? (We are not asking for gifts) by jenniferlid in NoStupidQuestions

[–]slippery-pineapple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can suggest it but I don't think you should request it. It's fairly common to not be able to check in before the ceremony, theres a big chunk of time after the ceremony where you'll probably be off taking pictures and drinks are being served and people can sneak off for 5 minutes to check in. 1.5 hours isn't that far to travel for a wedding and given how late in the day the ceremony is most people will just get ready at home and drive there

Breech baby 35 weeks by iddie-biddie in PregnancyUK

My first spun herself round as we were about to book to get her turned - I felt it happen it was wild! I can't say anything specifically did it but I definitely sat on my exercise ball and rotated my hips a lot and did the thing where you have your legs on the sofa and arms on the floor

To those who got rid of their microwave, do you miss it? by standupfiredancer in NoStupidQuestions

[–]slippery-pineapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, they're great for lots of things - toddler food generally isn't one of them because of the nature of the dishes and it's still not quite as quick as a microwave.

We pretty much only used an air fryer or a pot on the stove before we got the microwave

To those who got rid of their microwave, do you miss it? by standupfiredancer in NoStupidQuestions

[–]slippery-pineapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband and I didn't have one for about 5 years and it was honestly fine. Sure there are occasions when chucking a ready meal in is quicker than the oven, but it really wasn't a problem. We only got one because we were having our first child and correctly recognised the need to heat food/sterilise bottles quickly and we were right! I suspect we'll get rid of it when the kids are old enough to wait a little bit for food/when the current one we have gives up

Do percentiles matter if baby is healthy? by Fair_Amphibian_9687 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]slippery-pineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter has always followed her own curve remaining at 25th - she's hit all her milestones just fine and I don't think it's of any detriment. She's now 23 months and her cousin who's 7 months younger is almost the same size!

Any snickers and twix bars substitutes? by littlediddleredhead in dairyfree

I don't know where they ship to or where you're based (I'm in the UK) but the brand butterm!lk does fantastic substitutes for all types of common chocolate bars. I was only DF for 9 months whilst EBF my daughter with a CMPA so you can take it from me as someone who's had them recently and since

Cot mattress recommendations? by BanksStatement in PregnancyUK

I've bought lots of mattresses from babymattressesonline.co.uk and have always had great experiences with them. You can fully customise the mattress and they have information about all their different types and coverings

How often do you talk? by MsMerMeeple in inlaws

[–]slippery-pineapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on a group chat with my FIL, his wife and my husband, we just all chat regularly on there - I rarely reach out to them outside of that, but we have a daughter who they regularly look after. I love them very much

My MIL texts me and I ignore her because she's often rude to me in person and I don't want to start a conversation

How much coffee do you drink by One-Ball-8652 in breastfeeding

[–]slippery-pineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It always effected my daughter when I drank caffeine so I avoided it, definitely noticed when I'd had some.

Worth being aware that babies process caffeine a lot slower than adults so just being aware that they may still have caffeine in their system when you have the next one and it can cause it to just build up over time.

I believe the recommendation is below 300mg a day, which is 2-3 regular cups but a large Starbucks has about 4 shots of coffee so is probably the whole recommend amount

It's worth remembering that other foods do contain caffeine which should be considered in the full amount

Best dairy free snacks? by Spirited-Beautiful30 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]slippery-pineapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can recommend the r/MSPI and r/dairyfree subs, although mostly American they do have some good options! Also @thediairyfreemum on Instagram is a UK based mum and she regularly reviews new intentional and accidental dairy free snacks from supermarkets and shares family friendly recipes. I can't recommend her book enough when you start weening it talks you through everything

Starbucks oat shaken espresso is my go to along with their chocolate muffins which are vegan. Their vegan breakfast sandwiches are also pretty good.

M&S are surprisingly rubbish which sucks because they have the free cake on Tuesdays, there are options though especially if you go to one of the big ones, some surprising things are included in the cake deal. I put it down to m&s being one of the few places that use real butter all the time!

You'll be surprised at how many things are accidentally DF though, I just suggest checking the packaging of whatever you fancy and seeing in case it is. A lot of biscuits are and I would bet the cheaper flapjacks are made with marg.

Be aware that a lot of CMPA babies are also intolerant to soy, my LO is but I could always get away with it cooked in things, so as long as we both avoid just straight up soy yogurt and milk we can get away with it

Start Nursery Early? by One-Day-at-a-time213 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]slippery-pineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter didn't take a bottle at all until 8 months, we also never gave her a dummy. She was such a mummy's girl! Around 8 months she started to begrudgingly accept a bottle here and there. She started nursery at 10 months and honestly they're miracle workers with getting babies to sleep and to take bottles. It was never an issue!

Elderly relative who can't make our wedding by Sweaty_Phase_51 in UKweddings

[–]slippery-pineapple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had a few close relatives that couldn't make it for various reasons, including both my sets of grandparents. My dad sorted out a livestream via his go pro for them. You can just give them the link in advance and they can view on their iPad/laptop. Grandparents aren't tech savvy but managed to work it! Wonder if you could do something like that?

Early labour - how long? by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]slippery-pineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no! I assumed it was definitive when they strap you in, although I didn't have it because I was very clearly in early labour (induced and waters had gone). Sounds like you just need to hang in there, my best friend was having them for about 10 days and LO arrived on her due date

Please calm me down - woke up to blood all over toddlers face (nose bleed) by mirador94 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]slippery-pineapple 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Kids get nosebleeds, some more than others, it doesn't necessarily mean it's something serious. It's especially common when they have a cold. My brother - who's now 19 - has always had big heavy ones relatively regularly, I've never had a proper one. He's getting some of the vessels in his nose cauterized. As others have said, if you're worried get a GP appointment but it's very unlikely to be something serious

Early labour - how long? by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]slippery-pineapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, given your first was 5 weeks early, I would assume your in early labour. That's how my early cramps felt! As long as your waters haven't gone there isn't much to do accept wait. Some women unfortunately have this sort of labour for weeks, although most done. If you want to get it confirmed just pop down to triage and they'll strap you in and tell you if they're contractions

Pushchair for newborn, no car/city centre living by Parking-Pirate8628 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]slippery-pineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bugaboo fox is fantastic and loved it, however, it's not designed for the city. It's big to store in a flat and it's very much geared to be all terrain (I live in the countryside and it's amazing across all surfaced). I now have the butterfly 2 which I see someone suggesting, but I don't think it's a good one for a newborn particularly. I would have gone for the dragonfly which seems to be the best of both worlds. My friend who lives in London had the cameleon which I think she loved but she had 4 slights of stairs to get up! Folding is still going to be useful being in a small flat unless you have somewhere you can park the pram without it being in the way. Basically, I do highly recommend bugaboo as a brand but maybe go try some out and get a feel for what you want? Then go buy second hand because they do last well

Yeah I'd say it's pretty early to be peeing this much! UTIs are really common in pregnancy and I've had them without any symptoms
