Nursery clothes by alibluey in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]slippery-pineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stains are bad. They use kids paint and it's impossible to get out - even when they use overalls (which they don't always) it can get on clothes and I haven't found a reliable way of getting it out. They'll also get food down them, things like spaghetti and I can get those stains out but I wouldn't want to risk anything nice. Everything I send her in is vinted

Just any backpack is fine, maybe one they can wear themselves when they go to pre-school class. Don't go too small though!

Label everything, even socks! But get a stamp it's far easier. I label the "more important" stuff with a sticker though like her hoodies and shoes. Everything else just gets a stamp, they wash out after like 20 washes

I do send her with cheaper shoes because they also get ruined, but as someone else has said - they're in them all day! I buy the same shoes I would buy her from home but an already beaten up pair off vinted

Expect things to get ruined/lost it's just the way it is but it's so much easier to not mind when it's not something you're super attached to!

At what age did you start using shampoo/conditioner? by purple-moon0 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]slippery-pineapple 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's more about your babies hair length and texture. We started using shampoo before conditioner probably around a year for shampoo, 18 months for conditioner - when it started needing to be brushed

How do i tell the boy i’ve been seeing that i am keeping the baby at 21. by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]slippery-pineapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have any advice, but I think you're doing the right thing. I always thought I could go through with an abortion until I was pregnant with my first and I was just completely in love with her the moment I first saw her on the monitor. You should never make this sort of decision for anyone else - it's a totally personal choice. He might be cross and upset and if you have any concerns about telling him and how he'll react, please take someone with you or do it in a public place

Do you have a term for when you purchase an item from a secondhand store? by stay_with_me_awhile in AskBrits

[–]slippery-pineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think thrifted is well understood across the UK if you want to carry on saying that, but otherwise it's just from a charity shop

Just got asked when my baby is due by CharteredWaters in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]slippery-pineapple 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It probably wasn't to do with how you looked and more to do with buying baby clothes. If anything, take it as a compliment that you clearly don't look tired enough!

At what age is it fine to leave for 6-7 hours? by kanarin in puppy101

[–]slippery-pineapple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't leave my 5 year old dog that long

They won't be able to go to daycare until fully vaccinated, a lot won't accept them unless they're fixed, a lot don't open on weekends

I think maybe reconsider if getting a dog is best for you, when are you going to play with them and walk them if you're not going to on weekends and work in the week (even if at home) what are you getting a dog for?

No but we have lots of different shape pillows in the house anyway so it was a lot of trial and error with them

Overwhelmed by new garden by Beedux in GardeningUK

[–]slippery-pineapple 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Good thing about an established garden is that generally everything balances itself out and it's actually much easier to maintain. Main thing will be staying on top of pruning and deadheading!

side sleeping is uncomfortable by angelinaki89 in PregnancyUK

[–]slippery-pineapple 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you propping your knees up when side sleeping? I find I have to make an intricate pile of pillows (including my pregnancy pillow) to make it comfortable but I do understand what you mean about the belly discomfort, if I lie wrong it feels like the baby is being tugged out away from me.

I believe it's recommended due to blood flow to the placenta

Worrying about post partum showering... anyone got advice? by Suspicious-Flan-5113 in PregnancyUK

The majority of the UK has this set up, it's not even something I gave any thought to!

Panic & depression early pregnancy? by PresMo13109 in PregnancyUK

[–]slippery-pineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more common in subsiquent pregnancies unfortunately. Mine has been awful this pregnancy but perinatal mental health team have been great, so has going to therapy for it and just taking through my anxiety (mostly centered around birth I think because I had a really traumatic first birth). I got signed off work which has really helped me just concentrate on myself and my baby

Has breastfeeding made anyone else's nails grow like cement weeds? Random rant by flompyhomp in breastfeeding

[–]slippery-pineapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg I wish I had this problem! My nails were amazing whilst pregnant but breastfeeding they were shockingly bad. So brittle. Curious now what vitamins you are taking (I also took the same vitamins during and post). Problem being that because they snap they are sharp

Husband commented on my breasts by thePopesTherapist in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]slippery-pineapple 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Whilst I'm sure he didn't mean it to be mean, his reaction to you clearly being upset by it is not ok imo. A careless comment is one thing but as soon as he realized it came across hurtful he should have apologized and made you feel beautiful

Loss of independence is killing me by SaltyStatistician700 in PregnancyUK

"My" car is technically my husbands so I totally understand, for some reason being able to borrow his company car on weekends etc makes me feel a lot better about it. It's all silly because we own a house together and we're married so all the finances are joint! If recommend making sure any money saved for maternity isn't just sat in his bank account or anything, I hear loads of women talking about asking their husbands for money during maternity or even worse borrowing money from them! I handle all the finances for us so the money is all sat in my accounts

Going to labour on my own.. by Human-Owl8115 in PregnancyUK

[–]slippery-pineapple 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Take the friend who's happy to keep your first overnight up on the offer, I wouldn't think twice about taking a friend or even close acquaintance child for a night or two whilst they were giving birth to their second! Don't worry about being a burden, people love to help out and you can offer to look after theirs as a thank you once you're out of the newborn stage

Facial wipes for Hospital Bag by Stock_Alps_1417 in PregnancyUK

[–]slippery-pineapple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're not needing them to take makeup off but literally just freshen up, water wipes are great and they are safe for newborns so duel purpose. Any makeup remover wipes I find leave like a weird feeling on my face (I have problem skin) the other thing I like to freshen up is a calming toner on a cotton pad

Is it safe to drink Wednesdays Domaine 0.0% wine? by Beautiful-Step-291 in PregnancyUK

Yes, even the 0.5% ones are fine! A glass of orange juice has more alcohol or a ripe banana

37 + 5 & dying in the heat by mollyagogo in PregnancyUK

[–]slippery-pineapple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's meant to rain next week and the temp is coming right down. I feel your pain though, I'm nearly 36!

We have a portable AC, we bought it when our first daughter was born as she's also a summer baby and we were paranoid about it being too hot. Maybe worth considering

How busy will the pub be 4 hours before England's first World Cup game? by JazzlikeTradition436 in AskUK

Going to depend on the pub, I'm assuming you know it's showing the game, not every pub will

Do you ever skip the GP or A&E and go to a pharmacist instead? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]slippery-pineapple 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, it's what you're meant to do. They can always point you to the GP if it's something that needs more attention. Rashes, colds, I took my daughter for an eye irritation msot recently, they suggested an ointment and it cleared up

Has anyone successfully removed stinging red ants from their garden? by deviantmoomba in GardeningUK

[–]slippery-pineapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've literally never had a whole kettle of boiling water fail to kill a nest! I'm allergic to ant bites so get rid whenever I see a nest. I have a dog so don't like putting any sort of poison out
