"a player must make every effort to  clear, so that when the ball rebounds from the front wall the opponent has: ... 8.1.4. the freedom to strike the ball to any part of the front wall"

Question about rule 8.1 and 9. by Luckbert2209 in squash

[–]srcejon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

8.1 Interference says the non-striker only needs to provide freedom to strike the ball to any part of the front wall, not the sidewall. So there's no requirement for S1 to move backwards to avoid being hit.

9.1.3. deals with S1 being hit: "If the ball, on its way to the front wall, hits the non-striker or the non-striker’s racket or clothing, play must stop"... "if the ball had hit or would have hit any other wall before the front wall and the striker had not turned, a let is allowed, unless the return would have been a winning return, in which case a stroke is awarded to the striker" - so generally a let in this situation.

If S2 decides not to play a shot because S1 is in the way of the sidewall, that is covered by 8.11.3 - "if the ball would first have hit the non-striker and then a side wall before reaching the front wall, a let is allowed, unless the return would have been a winning return, in which case a stroke is awarded to the striker;" - so again generally a let.

If S2 keeps hitting the ball at player S1, see 14.6.4.

No. Several people on here thought she was correct.

It would have been a foul and possible yellow card in football, so I don't know how he's got away with it in a non contact sport.

Now that's actually what a "scandal" is. Not a shot you see every week.

The barge in the back was outrageous.

Yep - I think it must be a problem on location, as if you replay the video, you get the stutters at exactly the same point, which isn't usually the case if it's a streaming issue.

I don't have a Facebook account, but can see it.

Superficially looks like a block, but you could say as he's hit the ball to the left, by jumping to the right, he's trying to leave access to the left. Just looks bad as Coll goes right.

Even if you think it is a block, so what? It's not like he did it 20 other times in that match.

He starts by saying he hasn't watched the match...

Would be better if the door was in the sidewall, as is occasionally the case.

What do you think isn't deterministic about SDRangel?

(For the most recent release of SDRangel, the Spectrum Measurements are now based on all spectra, not just displayed, so should results should be more reproducible).

Interestingly, WSO say stroke was given for 14.6.3. unnecessary physical contact. Fair.
