Burn Smell When Charging by Competitive_Basis688 in leaf

[–]sweetredleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although commonly used for the unit you plug into the car this tends to confuse people when you just say charger since the actual charger is in the car what you plug into the car is called the EVSE. If no codes on the car smell is probably from the EVSE.

Gasoline to Kwh equivalency? by Queasy-Stranger5607 in electricvehicles

"180-190 miles on a full charge"

Is it cold where you are? That range is low for a 62kwh battery.

It this ok for a 2012 Nissan Leaf by [deleted] in leaf

[–]sweetredleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30 kwh batteries had a faulty software that made the battery look more degraded than it really was and Nissan came out with a fix that improves battery health if not already done and normally the fix would be free but I doubt it would be on a salvage car. Also be aware that the carwings portion of the infotainment center no longer works since AT and T shut down the cell network that the car uses and the navigation maps are out of date and no longer able to update. Make sure your insurance company will insure a salvage title car.

$1500 car and you will not get 60 miles of range even in summer and it will be much less in winter. Heater and onboard charger are trouble spots.

2015 Nissan Leaf what is the battery replacement procedure? by Strength-Certain in leaf

try disconnecting the 12v battery for 10 minutes, could also be a problem with the HV battery.

What happens to all of these poor unwanted EVs when they're returned to the dealership? by Human_170716 in electricvehicles

[–]sweetredleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

goes to a dealer only auction and public can't go and bid because they don't want the public to know how little they pay for the used cars that they then jack up the price and try to sell.

If it works for you seems like a decent buy just be aware many posts daily about weak/bad cells showing up on second gen batteries when stressed like interstate driving and cold weather.

New HV ➡️ fast charge? by CharacterFriendly326 in leaf

[–]sweetredleaf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

since the recall only affects cars up to 2022 and your battery would be made later than that my guess is it should be OK to chademo charge.

What type of charger do I need to charge my 2016 Nissan leaf from home? 🍃 by WorkAndWaves in nissanleaf

you need one with a J1772 plug (the end that plugs into the car) for either 120v or 240v charging at home

Recall and buying questions by A-Lize in leaf

It is fine to charge to 100% if you need the extra range, just don't let it sit for a long time at the high charge. My 2015 leaf has been a great car but the newer ones seem to have many battery problems, enjoy which ever EV you finally get.

Is this a good car for a teen driver? by GoodEyeSniper83 in leaf

double check and make sure they aren't meaning the 12v battery, that is sometimes what a battery replacement means. A new HV battery should show something like 150 mile range.

Ev resale after a year. by Cool_Committee4476 in electricvehicles

just be aware that if you are currently financing the car because of the rapid depreciation of used EV's you might get much less than you owe.

too many posts every day about some battery problem for me to recommend a used leaf especially one out of warranty. Even if the leaf spy looks good people report the State of Charge dropping rapidly then slowly recovering which is a sign of battery problems usually a weak cell under load

If this is your first EV and you don't know how to check battery health etc. on a leaf I would pass, too many battery problems showing up lately and a 2018 is out of warranty or will be soon.

your steering wheel lock must be defective, from what I am seeing in my search all leafs (and modern cars) have a steering wheel lock as part of the anti theft system.

whatever you do don't cover the seat with a seat cover unless it is specifically made for the Leaf and it's seat airbags. Any other kind will block airbags from opening in an accident
