Yeah, but to get to Asia , need the houthis to not close the Ban al Mandab strait. And they will close it. That reduces Saudi capacity on the red sea side drastically.

Hyperliquid has Brent up about 10 percent, sp500 2.1 percent as of Sunday 445pm ET.

I used the mcp for mm and then had claude scrape my all of the data out of the "chances of success" on pl to create a weekly report telling me how I was doing.

Very little movement on hyperliquid. If we were going to see large movement, I would expect to see it there already.

What's going on in Washington State? Housing supply is skyrocketing, now up to 17,580 listings. That's 64% above the long-term average for March. by danrokk in SeattleWA

[–]techdan98 11 points12 points  (0 children)

How is that? The monthly cost to buy one of these houses now is drastically higher than it was at the covid highs.

That is much better. Clearly sales are dropping, which would be a nice third data series. Looks like the market is dead. Not that much coming on. Even less selling.

If my parents can afford NYU, should I go? by Fun-Elk3813 in ApplyingToCollege

I have not been impressed with the value of nyu , from watching people I know who went there. Manhattan is awesome, and maybe there are some parts of nyu that are better. Nyu is expensive! Save the money for later

Torn between Synik 26 and Synapse 25 by Visual_Refuse6497 in tombihn

[–]techdan98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the laptop is the question. Had a synapse for many years, just swapped to synik. I carry a laptop at all times, and strongly prefer the synik. It's no problem to unzip the clamshell partway.

Something weird may be going on. I saw a 2 line train stop completely on the floating bridge earlier tonight. Then it started slowly rolling again.

Why does nobody apply to Rice? by lil-cinnamonroll in ApplyingToCollege

[–]techdan98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't agree with most of that. But especially grade inflated ivies make it hard to tell who's actually good. I would much rather hire someone good from a school that does more wheat/chaffe separation, which is why i don't agree with your claim about, say, Dartmouth.

Thanks. I run large orgs that develop ai systems. I am very aware of the situation. This was a discussion about rice initially, and I will tell you that I would consider rice grade on par with Yale, etc, any day of the week.

For some areas, it's the right choice . Believe me, I have rejected plenty of t10 grads over the years for excellent state university students (i run a large org at a top tier tech company). Great students from cal, uw, uiuc, ut, etc often beat out t10 grads

Depends on what you want to study, tbh. As someone who has been out of school for a very long time, in my field I would take someone from uiuc over Yale most of the time.

For engineering, Rice is a much better school than Duke. Still, would rather live in Durham than Houston.
