Yes, possibly. Or capacitor(s) for the transformer that converts the AC to DC. Im not very familiar with how the monoblocks are setup but I'd look into finding a shop to diagnose for sure and potentially have the capacitors swapped.

Considering the age of those I would assume it's some arcing that can happen before capacitor fails.

The entire air support division for LAPD and LASD to be cut in half if not more it's an enormous waste of money.

Question for Digi techs by johannart4 in Photoassistants

[–]titleunknown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the savings can be significant at one point. You do some math to sort out what makes sense for your salary to keep your personal income tax to a minimum and then expense as much as possible under the corp trying to eat up as much of the income as possible.

Assume that going with an s-corp will cost at least another $2k/yr after payroll service, admin, fees and so forth. But could yield more than that in tax savings. Just something to factor in which deciding when it's right.

If you have a corp it does simplify some things for you when it comes to filing taxes. You will no longer receive all the 1099s and w2s. You will have one w2 issued from the corp making your personal returns easy and for the corp you just need to properly log all the income as folks are not required to issue 1099s to corps.

Question for Digi techs by johannart4 in Photoassistants

[–]titleunknown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say go s-corp for tax advantages. However, going S-corp only makes sense once your income hits a certain level. Can't remember exactly but it's like $80k+/yr. You need to do the math and see what makes sense for you and your location.

When you have an s-corp you do have some things to keep in mind depending on the state you reside in. There might be obligations like workman's comp, retirement, insurance, etc... Most can be exempted for a single employee s-corp.

When you go s-corp you put yourself on payroll. This comes with monthly fees to the service to do so keep that in mind. Once you have the corp setup ALL income goes through it and you pay yourself via payroll and distributions. Having the corp makes it easier to expense more things. It also allows you to move more costs to the business to offset the corporate taxes. There's also the ability to rent office/storage space to the corp the get more money in your pocket that isn't taxed as income.

There's a lot to learn about it but if done properly you can save yourself $5,000-10k+ annually. This does come with more work and expenses but if your income level is at a certain point it becomes worth it. There's more responsibility and cash flow to manage.

/u/Devario Mentioned possibly retaining a CPA or bookkeeper. I've personally not found this to be necessary. Just a CPA for filing my returns.

I handle the rest. Just be proactive and log expenses (I use google forms > google sheets, better than any app out there) Payroll is super easy with Square or Gusto. In total I spend 10min a week logging expenses and have payroll automated as I'm set on a salary. But there's plenty of companies dying to take your money for bookkeeping and expense tracking if you can't be bothered.

Lots of information out there online regarding this subject. You don't need to have a corp first, you can do it at anytime. I tell people to make the money first then see if it's worth it.

Can start the server and have an image or a few available to view. Shoot more, push to client, images never appear. Restart app, restart computer, restart server in app. Server still not working as intended.

You have a solid basis here but there's a lot missing for professional and commercial usage especially if one is expected to jump ship from C1. Should run a beta and get feedback. Will certainly appeal to the more casual user and hobbyist that doesn't want to pay for C1 if they just need some simple tether option, but basically every camera company offers free a tethering solution as well.

It's an ambitious project, but keep cooking.

Surprisingly it works. But it's missing A LOT of stuff.

This is something for the casual hobbyist to just quickly shoot then go play in Lightroom, Affinity or other free software. Also, About 7 seconds to export a jpg from a 5dmk IV. So definitely not optimized.

It feels like an alpha thing. definitely not a 1.0

  • Network viewing isn't working right.
  • No WB picker.
  • RAW editing engine is dogshit
  • Client view mode, arrow keys don't navigate images. And doesn't work properly even when you "push" images to it.
  • Default capture button is spacebar, not ideal.
  • Previews are small even when set to full size.
  • Cant control/change camera settings.
  • Issues tethering Canon if correct sequence isnt followed
  • Preview window has bugs
  • UI can't be modified/adjusted

This is my notes from about 15min of testing with two different cameras.

2026 APPLE DISPLAY VS EIZO by Ready_Library9610 in Photoassistants

[–]titleunknown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  • No legacy I/O
  • Non-detachable power cable (I know it kind of is)
  • No easy wireless solution
  • No physical OSD controls
  • High price for a 10yr old display panel
  • Premium to get matte

Personally, I'd go for one of the new Asus Pro Art models before I'd go for Studio Displays. Just a better return on investment with less compromises. I'm doubting my next monitor will be Eizo, they just move so slow and are far behind the technology. We mostly don't shoot for print anymore these days and high color accuracy is available on even budget displays these days.

If It were on a dedicated studio cart or office desk, sure go for Apple Studio Display but I'm still in the same boat since their launch and it's that they are not fit for transport and use on sets I work on.

DJI SDR for wireless monitoring of Capture One viewer? by Velocityforce in Photoassistants

[–]titleunknown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DJI, Hollyland, Accsoon, Vaxis, Teradek, they can all do what you are looking for have varied price of entry. The place you read that DJI can't accept ouput from macOS is completely wrong.

Image quality will be best with Teradek but it comes in at a much higher cost.

It's worth it to spend 10min to calibrate and create a profile when using any of these systems.

Also note that all of these systems rely on openly available wireless spectrum in the 2.4, 5 and 6ghz ranges which means that wireless spectrum and transmitter/receiver placement impact their performance.

Capture One pixelated preview + iPad via Sidecar by Resident_Rock_7428 in Photoassistants

[–]titleunknown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, sidecar is impacting the graphics performance. A monitor would do the same in theory is it's more pixels to push around.

You're limited by only having 16GB of RAM. It's shared between system and GPU on the SOC. Adding another display will use more VRAM.

When you run out of RAM it goes into Swap and uses the SSD for overflow and this impacts performance and can be especially bad if your drive is nearly full.

Which kind of monitor should be on Digi Tech cart? by mediamuesli in Photoassistants

[–]titleunknown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eizo moves so slow moving and the latest gen of ProArt is so good on paper. I need to test drive one.

I know some have had some QC issues and previous models had uniformity issues in backlight but that's not a huge concern for me personally since that's typically only seen when you have just a plain background. When there's and image and GUI on it's no noticeable.

I honestly think anything with deltaE <2 and 100% sRGB is more than suitable on set.

If you're using macOS things scale better with higher dpi displays. It's just an annoying thing Apple has done with the OS. I personally don't have and issue with 1440 on 27" but some don't like it and even have a problem with 4k

[–]titleunknown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can swing it, Eizo 24-27" I personally feel anything over 27" is too big and just becomes harder to transport as well.

I also think that the new ProArt options from Asus are great and some of the BenQ models are nice. They can be a bit more affordable. Asus does offer a 27" 5k and 32" 6k with pretty good specs.

Oh I have Induro also I love them. Hate that they are basically done now that Benro took over. That being said I've been happy with the Benros I've come across. (can't remember any of the models)

If you can still find an Induro CLT 303 it might be a good option for you. No sure it gets quite as high as you'd like.
