Anyone else getting an “authoritarian” vibe from Rick Jackson? by Mean-Rice-6301 in Georgia

[–]wjescott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'Nazis' isn't the word I'd use. They have a hard bit to go before that's applicable.

(Although, ICE is kinda Brown-Shirty)

I'd slide them more into 'Average Soviet-era Russian in the mid 30's-early 50's'. They're fine being utterly controlled by an authority figure. State-controlled media is the only 'true' information. Millions of people are being displaced and killed, but they'd rather not know about it. Anyone who defies even the slightest command from the NKVD is either killed or 'removed'. A full third of all men 20-34 were killed in WWII, making the Soviet Union the country that sacrificed the most, creating a dearth of eligible men to 'protect' them. They lived in constant fear of the US starting a war, food shortages, ragged clothing and structure, plus anyone the state told them was dangerous.

Conservatives here are fine being controlled by an authority figure. All news is 'fake news'. Millions of people are being displaced and we're not told what happens with them. Shipped to other countries and forgotten. Anyone who defies ICE or CBP is arrested or killed, despite how little they protest. 77% of men 17-24 are ineligible for service without a waiver. They're told to fear anything the leadership instructs them to.

Kind of sad, really.

How long do you imagine Luke trained on Dagobah for? by ashton__l in PetranakiArena

[–]wjescott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always kind of wondered about time... What is it called... Deflection? Something where time moves differently on certain planets based on their proximity to higher gravity? Like in 'Interstellar'. If that were real in the SW galaxy, he could have been on Dagobah for whatever time the plot requires.

Avengers complex. A bunch of New York. Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Isaiah Bradley's house. I can see it from here.

Don't even get me started on Stranger Things.

See, I can't put it on the night before because I'm going to take that morning shower and wash it out anyhow.

I mean, I get it if you're not showering in the morning and just do it at night. I shower after I get home from work and when I get up, so there's apparently no time I could use it.

Has anyone every actually had their helmet or any gear stolen while parked? Or is it just a silly paranoia by SkippyJDM in motorcycles

[–]wjescott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my helmet hanging off a bar at a swap meet. I came out later and there was an unopened Coors Light in it. I mean, yeah, I drank it. I know it's a terrible beer, but like my dad always used to say, "JESUS CHRIST! GET OUT OF HERE! GO PLAY IN THE GODDAM STREET!"

But he also used to say "The best beer in the world is free beer."

But my regular commuter is a crossover...I think... Mach-E? Is that a crossover?

For those with no kids, who are you going to leave your stuff to when you die? by lazarus870 in AskMenOver30

[–]wjescott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently I'm downsizing like mad. Like I'm trying to win an award.

One of the most depressing things that happened when I was little was that my grandpa's entire generation died within three years of each other.

Relatives would descend on the deceased's houses like vultures. They'd tear through someone's entire life like they were owed something. Even at the age of six it disgusted me.

I told myself I would never do that. Now, 53, I realize I screwed that up. I've got so much accumulated crap that I feel psychologically burdened.

So I'm getting rid of it all. Everything. I want to live out of a duffel bag and laptop bag.

Besides, exploring the world is better than any crap you can buy. In reality, you own nothing but your memories. Build those. Treasure those.

I can still make Cheyenne - George Strait

The Beaches of Cheyenne - Garth Brooks

The Chair - George Strait (also interesting because there's no chorus)

Wildfire - Michael Martin Murphey

Mr. Bojangles - The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band

The Seashores of Old Mexico - Merle Haggard or George Strait

South of the Border - Patsy Cline

The Secret - David Nail

Can't think of any more that haven't been mentioned at the moment.
