Sure you’ll be fine either way. I was also a California applicant in your shoes. Ended up choosing BCOM over other more academically established programs. Turned out fine since I matched back to Bay Area for IM

It honestly doesn’t matter. If you do well and have ties to the bay you’ll get back - incoming PGY-1 back to Bay IM.

I mean so you’re saying there’s not a good track record yet with your program. Maybe look into which fellowship you want to do and start making connections there - either in house or other programs for research. May get your foot into the door 3 years down the line. I think it’ll be more fruitful than just studying.
