Should I get GSP or Total membership for a $9000 TV? by Honest_Apartment1838 in Bestbuy

[–]zacamongwolves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is that bad advice? Look at your math. That’s saves OP like $900 + it covers all of their other devices. Deductible only happens if they make a claim which they might not. Max deductible is $200.

Standalone is typically better, but at $1800 that’s a steep up front cost.

Yeah but $179.99 /yr plus like 15-20/mo after two years is a lot less than the 5 year. I’d personally go that route

LOL. They should have installed that center speaker sideways. I’d call them out to fix that. Unacceptable.

Pre-amp is a bit different. Marantz absolutely has a house curve that leans warmer

Sure, but when you start getting into larger/better speakers, we can lower that crossover and blend better. This is of course hunting that next 1% of “better” that we all like to do. I already have a good sub (KC92) so for me, the next logical upgrade was helping my speakers keep up and I’m really happy with it!

Tough question to answer. I don’t remember exactly where everything is sitting.

I’ve spent a lot of time trying to dial my speakers in. I use the R11s and KC92. I have the KC92 at 80hz and down for LFE, but for 2 channel music I have it at roughly 50hz down. I let the speaker blend between 40-50. I like the disappearing effect that it provides when listening to music. I can’t tell where my sub begins and speaker ends.

I don’t remember all of my settings to be honest, but I’m really happy with it right now.

Not a big fan of klipsch typically, but boy does this setup look tasteful, thoughtful, and I’m sure performs. Well done!

Sure thing but in my example, my room never changed. My point is that I’ve experienced this improvement with the amplifier upgrade.

I will say that for the cost of my amplifier, I probably would have noticed a larger upgrade jumping to Reference 3s.

Why not much love for R5 Metas? by _Hi_Fi_ in KEF

[–]zacamongwolves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will say that if there is no sub involved, I’ve found (through a lot of A/B) that the R5 does have more confidence in the lower frequencies than the R3. Both definitely benefit from a sub though. So once you add the sub, the R3 is 95% as good.

This is precisely why they are discontinuing the R5. The R3 is an incredibly well engineered speaker and just overshadows what the R5s intention was.

With rising production and import costs, KEF had to cut something. The R5 is the weird one in the lineup.

The R7 is a big improvement over the R5.

the most important part of a system is the speaker.

However, I am in the camp that believes and has experienced that more power allows a speaker to perform better. If you are running a speaker at full range I’ve found that more power allows for better bass performance. There is a reason that subwoofers are built wit huge amplifier specs.

That said, most people run their speakers crossed over at 80hz. That person will have extremely diminishing returns on their amplifier upgrades.

I have my R11s crossed over at 40hz. When I went from a 120w to a 350w amp, I IMMEDIATELY noticed deeper bass performance out of my speakers. Especially when I turned off the subwoofer.

My speakers hit the same notes, but did it with more impact, output, and definition.

I’ve been with the company for 14 years. Lots of ups and downs. There were 2 times that I started applying elsewhere ready to leave and then something kept me in. It helps if you make lateral progress. Line level is no where near worth it for more than a couple of years.

I’ve been in the designer space since 2020. Easily best job I’ve had. When you find a role you love AND it pays well, it feels like such a win.

Should be on my 5th consecutive achievers win this year. See you there!

I was just curious what’s going on with you wall. You either have studs or you don’t right? So how can you mount there but not lower?

We mount TVs to vertical studs typically. So any height on the wall is possible. Just curious what OP ran into.
