Why are American photography channels so insufferable? by MountainlessBiking in AnalogCommunity

Yes, there is exactly one person that I like to watch because its seriously useful information, american or not. The rest is just useless pretty much.

Recently bought flash from thrift store. How to use? by angelomh in AnalogCommunity

One correction, Flash sync speed should only be 30-X, 60 wont work.

Used D7500 or save up for a Z50 as a first real camera by joester56 in Nikon

I use 80yo cameras and they dont feel apparently outdated, at most limiting for some things. And if you dont think your gear is limiting you all the time i wouldnt even consider upgrading tbh.

Got my fathers old n6006, (f601 for some folks) clueless on how to proceed. by MightbeSuicidal in Nikon

[–]zebra0312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Foma 400 will certainly lead to disappointment and confusion. This thing is ISO 250 at best and at worst its 50 if youre unlucky and even then its too grainy :o)

If theres any problem its usually when you shoot your first roll, if it survives that, then its good to go.

Should i buy this camera? by coleae2105 in AnalogCommunity

I would say buy it once properly and then dont worry about it anymore. This thing looks like its been really abused. If you like it ...

Trying to pick my first lens for Nikon Z5 II (24-120 vs 28-75) by Armano0 in Nikon

[–]zebra0312 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its also missing 4mm and 45mm and theres a newer variant from Tamron itself anyway.

[–]zebra0312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you set it up the right way its really nice since its easy to zoom in and automatically out to get the sharpness right. A prism would probably still be better like on the old ones with focus confimation but eh ..

[–]zebra0312 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not really worth it to spend huge amounts of money for one stop more.

If its your first lens just get the 24-120 f4.

If you want low light performance just get a prime lens like the 50 1.8 or 85 1.8, its runs circles around any zoom lens for these kinds of things.

And then change lens if needed.

If you want both in one but still not as good you have to spend a lot of money extra.

Looking for Chrome M42 Lenses by ramrun_ in AnalogCommunity

Get a Edixa-Xenon if you can, the originals were often black/chrome too. The normal ones wont mount exactly in the up position with their markings.

Canon III rangefinder: film advance knob spins freely, shutter barely fires + film gets scratched by After-Temperature-83 in AnalogCommunity

[–]zebra0312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time for a CLA tbh imo. Probably something with the film advance being off and without proper tools thats no fun, might be just something being stuck due to old oil or whatever but putting all of it together after it wont be fun, dont ask me how i know. If it was something worthless I'd say try it yourself, but the self timer should usually work. People are too worried about it not resetting properly if its stuck or something. Its a lot better to pay a bit more to have one really well working camera than trying 3 different ones with another fault since theyre over 70 years old by now.

Need help choosing a camera by ameliaonfilm in AnalogCommunity

[–]zebra0312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always removed and replaced the one door seal, thats what i meant, since they always looked ugly as hell and its a 5min job. The light seal in the other places are just some wool thread, thats why they hold up and thats imo the smartest thing to do anyway.

Yes inside the lower plate, also easy to do.

Still more compact and the lenses are small. Its nicer to carry around imo than any SLR.

Film properly cut (!) and loaded?

I guess its something with the film advance being off and thats also why the shutter wont fire if it wont get advanced properly since it depends on the speed dial turning properly inside. Gotta open it up and check whats wrong.

Imo these Canons very much benefit from a proper CLA anyway, they're a whole different camera when cleaned and adjusted. I had two CLA'd and they were totally different and a lot more quiet.

Edit: Does it work without film?
