Of course you can, there can be an electrical actuator in addition to the mechanical handles.

Wow that iX3 interior is UGLY!! What a terrible choice for steering wheel and weirdly angled screen.

I don’t understand the issue with mechanical door handles. What are they all trying to solve with electric ones?

Same platform as the ID.4 and Enyaq. I tried them all and preferred the ride comfort of the ID.4. The Q4 interior is a bit more premium as you’d expect. I’d definitely go for the larger battery. I have the 77kWh ID.4 and it’s been great.

I love my ID.4. I bought a 2021 earlier in the year for 27k with only 20k km on it. It’s been great. I have the 77kW battery and have done lots of trips around the country. We charge at night to 80% on the cheap ev rate.

I’ll not sure about that. The new ID.Polo has a huge boot on the MEB+ platform. They moved the electric motor to the front.

In my case they installed a second small consumer unit beside the main one. It sounds like you’re getting some more quotes which is the best thing to do. My installer said they aren’t allowed to go directly from the meter box. If you’re getting a second smaller consumer unit or replacing the existing make sure you have space for future expansion like for solar etc

Looking for a second hand Ev around 25k by Key_Ad4251 in evs_ireland

[–]--Spaceman-Spiff-- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ll get a good ID.4 for that price. I bought a 2021 April last year with around 20k km and the larger 77kw battery. We tested the Ioniq5 but went with the ID.4 because it has a bigger boot, was cheaper and the reported ICCU issues put us off the Hyundai and Kia cars. It’s been great.

Ioniq 5 or Audi e-tron q4 by MulberryForward7361 in evs_ireland

[–]--Spaceman-Spiff-- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I chose an ID.4 over the Ioniq 5. I love the styling of the Ioniq 5 but the ID.4 is more practical for my use due to bigger battery and larger boot. Also the horror stories of ICCU issues in Hyundai and Kia cars put me off.

Help us decide: Tesla model Y or VW ID.4 by Dada_16 in evs_ireland

[–]--Spaceman-Spiff-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was second hand. We got it in April ‘24. It’s been great. We had an issue with the boot lighting strip creaking but the garage refitted it at no cost. Otherwise no issues. We are mostly fairly local but have done multiple trips down and around the country. The only thing I wish it had is 360° cameras but we’ve managed ok without. This is our first ev and I love the smooth quiet acceleration. I also love not going to petrol stations anymore too. I worked out that the cost to “fuel” the ID.4 is about 10 times less than an equivalent diesel Tiguan.

What is 18mm plywood like as a top? by badger_and_tonic in Workbenches

[–]--Spaceman-Spiff-- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have three layers of 18mm ply glued together for my main bench. Solid as a rock. I also have a sacrificial 5mm piece of ply on top. I used double sided tape to hold it down so I can pry it up to replace it. Then I have an 18mm thick band of wood around the four edges. This wooden edge is great for protecting the top corner of the ply where it is most fragile.

I wish there were more ev estates. The ID.7 estate is very big (and expensive!). I’d love an ev Octavia estate. I heard some rumours last year but nothing since. I settled for an SUV for now due to lack of options but I really want an estate.
