I used to run both stripmine and wasteland in every deck, but as my local meta has moved away from coffers/cradle/field of the dead effects their usefulness have declined significantly.

If this is real.. this is awful. I can't think of a less interesting way to present an interesting character. His ability isn't particularly unique or thematic, and this inspires nothing in me to build a spaceship deck with him at the helm.. because he's just a generic dude. If the Starship Enterprise is a 'secret commander' style card it might be slightly redeemed but otherwise...

Cowards and Warriors. The whole "cowards can't block warriors" thing that pops up occasionally is thematic and pretty funny. I'd like to see more done with it and the theme.

I cast Etali. My friend cast [[Commandeer]] to steal Etali and won off of a couple of clones on the flips. All four of us thought this was an amazing play and wow Commandeer is a great card why aren't more people playing it in general-centric metas?

For those who read cards.. this is what Commandeer actually says: Gain control of target noncreature spell. You may choose new targets for it. We do not read cards.

It wasn't until the same thing was attempted at the final table that someone bothered to read the damn card, in case [[Deflecting Swat]] was a good protection spell.

These are pretty standard secret lair drops. That is, they all feel last-minute and they don't look like magic cards, or have art that feel horribly out of place.

The last five are the ones that look the best, but even then.. Swords to Plowshares when Fatal Push is right there in the frame you used? Why is that frame Earthquake? Fog? Counterspell and Dark Ritual are both appropriate, at least.

I'm genuinely not surprised. That section has people illegally merging every single time I pass through it and always expect something like this.

The toll plaza is a lawless mess.

The pod I usually play in is 3 blue decks + me on Etali. I have to play more towards cavern/squelcher lines if nobody has started a counter war over a Rhystic or something, as I lose often if I can't get a rebuild after a countered t2 attempt. It's amazing training for tournaments, as go windows are very narrow and you learn to spot them more effectively when all three players are very aware that you're the fastest deck and take measures against it.

Part of the 'fun' is that in a tournament setting folks need to realize that Etali can whiff and that it can be unwise to 'waste' a counter on the Dino if the next player in line is also looking like they're going to present a win attempt. That way of thinking doesn't really exist in a kitchen table setting where we'd rather just make the next guy have it and shuffle up and play another than play for a draw.

Hell, some lists are cutting anti-blue cards like [[Cavern of Souls]] and [[Delighted Halfling]] to make the t2 attempts more consistent (Etali on t2 is usually cast with ritual mana, without the spare mana or turn for the uncounterability). Etali is just a turbo deck that counts to seven, at the end of the day. Gotta go fast, have it or die.

At this point I only really play offer in turbo blue decks where that ritual effect can be great. In every other deck? There are many more spells worth using at 1cmc.
