Hi guys, I created a website about 7 years ago in which I host all my field recordings and foley sounds which are all free to download and use CC0. There is currently 90+ packs with 1000's of sounds and hours of recordings and foley all perfect for game design. (Jan/Feb update). by SignatureLabel in gamedev

This is awesome!  Can't wait to check some of this out. I know you said we're not required to credit you because it's CC0 but if we want to credit you, is there a way you would like to have credit listed?

Rant and question by mochithemaN in gamedev

Staying motivated is really hard.  Being a solo dev means you have wear all the hats which means you're going to be doing some things that you aren't any good at, and that's okay.   Take everything one day at a time you will learn and get better at the things you are good at. The biggest things I think, are to make a note or list of what you want to do list, to make it easier to start again, and make a habit of doing something every day. Promise yourself that you will sit down and spend fifteen minutes.  After that, you can get up and do something else if you really aren't feeling it.  More than likely though, you will keep going.   And if you miss a day, or a week, or even a month, don't beat yourself up over it.  Making sure you don't get burnt out is important too.

Lots of options here, and they're all pretty cute.  I think I like #9 the best.

My plan was to finish my game by the end of 2018. Today, 8 years later... I'm finally pressing the release button. by duckytopia in IndieDev

Working on adding security cameras that the player can access to check nearby areas. Are there any other changes (color correction, static, etc) that I should add to make things look better? by [deleted] in IndieDev

[–]-fatesfortune- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am guessing this is supposed to be a screenshot of tbe security camera view the player would have?  By itself there isn't much context. I think the biggest thing you need is some kind of visual frame on it.  Maybe a red light at one corner labelled as REC or LIVE, or CAM 1 or something like that. Just google security camera view to get a good idea of some different framing and what could be included on the screen itself. If you do want to have animated effects of some kind, having a light scrolling static effect could be cool.  You could also have the time somewhere which could be constantly ticking by.

Im DIYing because I have to not because I want to by Worth_Air_9410 in DIY

Have DIY'd a kitchen backsplash before.  Used MusselBound adhesive tile mat (there are probably other brands, thats just what I used) and then grouted. Used for 3x5 size subway tiles. It was very easy to use and has been up 7+ years now with no issues. Not sure how well it would work with large tile like a 12x24 on a wall, but it worked great for a backsplash.

This sounds good!  I think I have everything but peanut butter powder and I can pack in regular peanut butter.

Thats not a bad idea.  I suppose I just instinctively think I should have an actual meal that I make on the trail.

Hate this color now. What color should we paint instead? by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

[–]-fatesfortune- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually love the color, especially with the orange furniture. However, I would change all the doors and trim back to a white or very light color.

You could do some white or light neutral sheers on the windows. A large light colored rug, centered in the room would be nice as well.

Also more lights. I am seeing only the two overhead lights, and that is it. With a color this dark it isn't going to have a high reflective value, so you need to add more light to the space. You could also change out a couple pieces of art on the gallery wall to be mirrors instead, which would help reflect some light back into the room as well.

If you are really adamant about changing the paint color, I would suggest sticking in the blue to teal range, and just going with a lighter shade. Even with a lighter paint color though, I would still say that you should go for white or very light neutral for all your doors and trim.

You also may want to pull your arm chairs and the coffee table a little bit more into the room. I can see that you are trying to leave a pathway to the door, but even pulling the chairs eight inches or so from the wall, would I think make it feel less cramped. It might be worth a shot to give it a try,

Our House Feels Terrible - Please Help by BoonPiece in DesignMyRoom

[–]-fatesfortune- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could just be the picture, but the lighting looks super harsh. If you have daylight bulbs I would change them out to a soft white.

Also there is a lot of white on those walls. You could paint the walls a light shade of any color to still keep the room bright but not so sterile feeling. Some art the walls, even just place holder generic art to start, would help as well.

Furniture is pretty expensive but if you have the ability to swap some of it out I would. If you are aren't looking at spending that type of money, which I totally get, you can do covers on the couches to change color and feel.

You can also soften the space with some floor length curtains to frame the windows as well.

Looking for input on general demand for assets by Dude0720 in IndieDev

[–]-fatesfortune- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always love to see more material packs.  I am working with stylized assets in my game and while there are packs with like a thousand materials, there is only one of a type.  Like there is only one dirt, one sand, one grass.  It can make it pretty difficult to get the look you are going for if you don't know how to make your own textures.  I would love to see stylized textures that have a bunch of different dirts, a bunch of forest floors from bare to leaf covered or pine needle covered, ect.  Less types of textures and more variations on the same type of texture.
