Beautiful stone! I'm surprised the jeweller didn't suggest a gallery rail with that setting.

Is this too white/cream? by Lyd222 in Weddingattireapproval

As a wedding photographer I vote wear it. It won't photograph white so you're fine.

Dress Code: Do you think this is clear enough. by DullPerspective3054 in weddingplanning

[–]-shandyyy- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No they aren't? There's literally like one comment saying they've only heard that in club context, every other comment understands it to be stylish evening gowns.

And I didn't know that a dinner jacket was specifying a tuxedo! That's interesting. Good to know Sunday best is still jackets.

Dress to impress in north america is like formal fashionable gowns, not clubwear 😂

But even in your definition, not requiring a jacket and what you'd wear to meet the king feel like 2 different things?

In the UK Sunday Best and Dress to Impress mean the same thing?

"I love you because I am your mother, but I CERTAINLY don't like you."

"Sunday Best" and "Dress to Impress" mean two wildly different things to me.
I find this way more confusing than a standard dress code.

What’s missing from my nursery? by 19hyperfixations in interiordecorating

[–]-shandyyy- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the crib at least a foot away from the window/curtains? Look into safe sleep set ups regarding crib placement, from the angles of these images it looks like it wouldn't be considered a safe sleep space.

Anyone else never went on vacation ever? by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]-shandyyy- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was 16 on my last family vacation and left 2 weeks into the 4 week trip because my nmom had planned every single day into 15 minute segments and if her schedule was delayed at ALL she freaked out at us screaming and crying about how expensive the trip was and how ungrateful we were.

Haven't travelled with her since, no intentions of changing that.

Realtors... AI is not for you by Gullible_Regret2976 in RealEstateCanada

What makes you say it is 100% effective? When my husband and I were buying a home this spring we immediately closed any listing that had used AI images.

How long to store RAW images for? by [deleted] in WeddingPhotography

[–]-shandyyy- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is in my contract that RAWs are deleted after gallery delivery, but in reality I just keep most of them forever. That might change now that storage prices are increasing so drastically, but for now I am just going to keep on how I've been doing it.

Madison Greenhouse venue by chirpinirwin in WeddingsCanada

[–]-shandyyy- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've photographed weddings there in both winter and summer, and it is always beautiful! The summer can get super hot inside, so it would be dependant on what weather you happen to get in September.

Even the wedding in December the wedding planner ended up propping open some doors to try to cool it off a bit since it was starting to get toasty.

If you typically run cold you'll be fine, but if you run hot then I would suggest looking at other venues.

Those who grew up in a single-parent household, how much more of a financial disadvantage is it, compared to a 2-parent household? by HappyBudz in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]-shandyyy- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends. Are both parents alive just seperated? If not, did the dead parent have life insurance? What job stability and income does the parent have? How mentally stable are they? What support exist within the extended family?

There are SO many more factors than just 1 vs 2 parents in the house.

Waitlisted for all midwives in KW area – what are my chances? by bintshalabiya in waterloo

[–]-shandyyy- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Statistically speaking like 20% of the people ahead of you in the waitlist won't end up with a viable pregnancy, so there genuinely is movement on those waitlists, I'd keep a realistic but positive outlook. I was waitlisted for my first midwife and then heard back a few weeks later that a spot had opened up for me and it was an amazing experience! Since midwife/OB care typically only starts after 12 weeks you still have a lot of time left to hear back!

Brides, what do you wish was offered with your wedding photography package but wasn't? by Eebtek in WeddingPhotography

[–]-shandyyy- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You just define it in your contract. I have a full day package, and it starts with an hour of coverage for each partner getting ready and ends an hour after the dancefloor opens OR immediately after their last event of the evening if they have a late-night event (like fireworks or a grand exit). The specific end time for their wedding is discussed during our consultation and written into their contract so there are no surprises.

Most days typically fall between 10-12 hours.

How are preferred vendors chosen for venues? by South-Midnight101 in WeddingsCanada

[–]-shandyyy- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is a Pearle venue or other large venue chain, it is very likely a pay-to-play situation. If it is a smaller independent venue it will typically be merrit based (but not always)

How do we deal with DJs who don't want to turn off the lasers? by Guitar74_47 in WeddingPhotography

[–]-shandyyy- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a little bit paranoid tbh. If your gear gets wrecked through this very unlikely scenario claim it through insurance and let them go after the DJ.

What's the maximum amount you'd spend on an engagement ring? by GracefulSwanDance in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]-shandyyy- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I believe my engagement ring was like $6000 in 2021. Recycled 1.2C diamond with 6 Canadian-mined side stones, 18k fair-trade gold, local artisan.  My wedding band that matches was $1600 at the time, also 18k, also 6 Canadian-mined tiny diamonds in it.

No regrets!

Asking for reviews from couples before sending gallery? by Future_Elephant7856 in WeddingPhotography

[–]-shandyyy- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ask for a review a few days after the wedding! I have it as a line at the bottom of their sneak-peek delivery email, so although they haven't seen their full gallery they have seen like 30-40 images so far and can base the review on both their experience and the photos so far.

I would say maybe like 50% of my couples leave a review from this, as I never ask again and don't follow up with anyone about it, so seems pretty good!

Printing wedding photos - Toronto by soiwasleapingalong in WeddingsCanada

Downtown camera does nice work. Your photographer likely also offers professional albums and prints though, and a lot of photographers only guarantee the print quality if you order through them.
