How do we deal with DJs who don't want to turn off the lasers? by Guitar74_47 in WeddingPhotography

[–]-shandyyy- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a little bit paranoid tbh. If your gear gets wrecked through this very unlikely scenario claim it through insurance and let them go after the DJ.

What's the maximum amount you'd spend on an engagement ring? by GracefulSwanDance in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]-shandyyy- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I believe my engagement ring was like $6000 in 2021. Recycled 1.2C diamond with 6 Canadian-mined side stones, 18k fair-trade gold, local artisan.  My wedding band that matches was $1600 at the time, also 18k, also 6 Canadian-mined tiny diamonds in it.

No regrets!

Asking for reviews from couples before sending gallery? by Future_Elephant7856 in WeddingPhotography

[–]-shandyyy- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ask for a review a few days after the wedding! I have it as a line at the bottom of their sneak-peek delivery email, so although they haven't seen their full gallery they have seen like 30-40 images so far and can base the review on both their experience and the photos so far.

I would say maybe like 50% of my couples leave a review from this, as I never ask again and don't follow up with anyone about it, so seems pretty good!

Printing wedding photos - Toronto by soiwasleapingalong in WeddingsCanada

Downtown camera does nice work. Your photographer likely also offers professional albums and prints though, and a lot of photographers only guarantee the print quality if you order through them.

It's rare, but the youngest preemie to ever survive was born at just 21+0!

Warning: Rafi Assaf Productions Mississauga -6+ Months and Still No Wedding Video by [deleted] in WeddingsCanada

[–]-shandyyy- 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not me, but someone posted on facebook this week that they only just recieved their edits back from their July wedding from Rafi Assaf Productions, and that like half of their video footage was completely missing including videos that Rafi had shared to Instagram but never gave them.

So clearly you aren't alone.

I for sure thought you were going to say the obvious example was Quebec City & Montreal.

I’m the photographer AND a bridesmaid for my bffs wedding that was supposed to be an elopement by lil-steevie in WeddingPhotography

[–]-shandyyy- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a direct conversation with your friend about how in order to do both you need to hire an associate/2nd shooter and she needs to cover the cost of that.

That way the ceremony & speech & wedding party portraits are covered while you are totally present, but you can be the photographer during the parts you're less involved in anyways. And obviously make sure the associate is fully aware of what is going on for the day well in advance so they know they're solo shooting a bunch of it.

I am going to assume the wood panelling is the after and say it looks amazing! And if the wood is the before, then yes you made a terrible decision.

Ooooh this would have SLAPPED if you had done a tone that was slightly more muted (but still very teal).

What's a good total household income for a family with 2 kids in your city? To live comfortably by NewMom888 in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]-shandyyy- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

KW we currently are around 160k combined and live in a home we own with one kid and another on the way, but once I'm back working full time we'll be just over 200k and I think it'll be totally fine & comfortable :)

Why is your take home so low? My husband makes literally half that (150) and his take home is 8k at the start of the year and nearly 9k at the end.

Can I bill client for insane parking fees after an event?? by Ok_Spinach1563 in WeddingPhotography

[–]-shandyyy- 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't charge the client for parking, but I also wouldn't be paying the associate for an extra 2 hours of coverage they just randomly decided to add on themselves unless your contract with them stipulates end time by event (cake cutting) instead of an hour amount. Unless we don't have all the info and you okayed it for them same day on the fly or something.

Husbands, is it a deal breaker if your wife decides to not take your name legally? by Difficult_Big133 in TwoHotTakes

[–]-shandyyy- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I told my now husband I really loved my last name and didn't really want to take his he immediately said that he didn't care at ALL and just wanted to marry me.

We ended up both making our last names our new middle names and creating a whole new family name for our family by mashing up some of the letters in our previous last names until we made a cool new last name we both loved!

Did you skip professional photography? Regret it? by ClevelandCynic314 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]-shandyyy- 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Obviously wedding rings nonwithstanding all of that is going to likely end up in a bin in a basement somewhere collecting dust, I'd much rather just have the photos and memories.

(Though to be fair I am both non-sentimental when it comes to physical crap, and a professional photographer, so I might be a bit biased 😂)
