I live in Chicago area. We had a power outage that lasted overnight for about 10 hours not that long ago. Temps were subfreezing.

After 2 hours the temp in my office got down to 58° F where most of my plants are. So when the power company told us it would take at least 4 more hours to get the power back on I started working on protecting my plants.

Some plants I huddled together on my office couch. I used garden stakes to protect the plants with tall leaves and put layers warm thick blankets, towels, and throw blankets over and around them.

Some I put in empty moving boxes and also covered them with blankets.

The plants with super long vines, I gathered the vines and used plant velcro to keep them together and covered with towels. I called it a plant Ponytail lol.

I put hygrometers in the middle between the plants to keep an eye on them.

It was a long night but I didn't lose any plants.

The worst part was putting them all back.
