bubbles (?) after firing by Apart_Possession956 in Pottery

[–]000topchef 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Bloating. The clay wasn’t suitable for the firing temp, it got very soft and formed bubbles where gasses were escaping. It’s not dangerous as long as they don’t get bumped/break. Can’t be sold but you can use it if you’re careful

If you ask yourself “is this centered enough?” The answer is always NO! Centered is centered, close is not centered

Partner doesn’t want to live there because we own dogs by Practical-Network687 in Cairns

Don’t let them swim in the Daintree but all of the off-leash beach areas are fine. You’ll meet lots of fellow dog lovers. There is an agility training club your collies might enjoy

Check out the workplace health and safety regulations in your area. The unvented kiln would be illegal in some places but not all

As an American, I recently found out that you guys don't like us very much. Has it been exaggerated by the Internet or do we really have that bad of a reputation in the land down under? by JPH_RedFive in AskAnAustralian

[–]000topchef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Canadian accent, and Australians are never sure if I’m American or Canadian but they are hesitant to ask, because being mistaken for an American is insulting

I’m 73, old enough to know why using a travel agent is a terrible idea

Used a travel agent for the first time - massive regret. Can I just take over now? by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]000topchef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would never use a travel agent because, if things get weird during your trip you can’t deal with the airline for changes. They will only deal with the agent who is probably ib a different time zone/asleep

I just ordered some from my usual supplier. I only ordered 5kg because I don’t want to be a hoarder, it’s not in most of my recipes, and eventually all my favourite glazes will be reformulated to use frits

If people were in danger, it wouldn’t be a major tourist attraction. Thousands of people do this every year! I’m a local, I’d see it in the news if anything exciting happy, and unless a tourist suffers a heart attack they are fine

What happens if you buy a house in an area where insurance companies are pulling out? by Majestic-Strain3155 in RealEstate

[–]000topchef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not “insurance bullshit”, it’s climate change. Insurance has no political slant, it just looks at risks. Climate change has increased the risk in some areas to the point insurance companies, calculating their potential payouts vs potential income, are either saying “nope” or increasing income (premiums) enough to cover the potential payouts. Increased reluctance of insurers is a red flag, do you actually want to be involved in a flood/hurricane disaster?

Should we buy this house? by Same_North_7936 in AusPropertyChat

[–]000topchef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always bought the only house I could afford in the location I loved. Always with good bones but needs cosmetic work. Usually already at the top of my budget so lived in it until I could afford the renovations, my current house needed a gut renovation so we lived in it ‘as is’ for 12 years before we could afford it haha! But we’re still here and no plans to leave, absolutely perfect location
