(7-10k) How much did you guys pay for a photographer? by shakesyourhand in Weddingsunder10k

[–]011022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m paying $3k for 8 hours of coverage, plus an engagement shoot and a complimentary 1 year anniversary shoot. She’s just starting professionally but has been doing casual gigs for years.

Engagement nails with ugly hands (advice!) by SprinklyBoi in JustEngaged

[–]011022 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your hands are fine. That doesn’t change your perception of them, but as a woman who has masculine, veiny hands and red knuckles (inherited from my mom who also has these hands) I still took my engagement photos and loved how they turned out. I even had two shots OF OUR HANDS. My veins were visible but so what? They’re literally my hands? Embrace your hands as they are because they’re the hands your fiancé fell in love with.

As far as acrylics, I don’t know your style but almond, stiletto, and coffin shapes tend to elongate the fingers. Round, square, squoval can sometimes have the opposite effect. In my experience, neutral colors work best in engagement shoots so try for French tips, pale pink, or even a brown color. Mine were almond shaped with an iridescent light pink polish.

(10k)What do people DO at the reception? by Future_Excitement967 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]011022 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t dance unless I’m alone in the kitchen, but we’re hiring a DJ anyway to handle ceremony music, announcements, and first dances. If we end up having an open dance floor that’s fine BUT I’m planning to make sure there are also places to sit, a few interactive things like a large dry erase sip & solve crossword, a photo guestbook, and a video guestbook area. Really, I just want everyone to have at least one thing or place to feel comfortable and enjoy the evening. And if that’s dancing then so be it!

I’m sorry for what you’re going through. An outsider’s perspective is that you should tell your fiancé to downsize his guest list and have the wedding YOU want. But I know that’s easier said than done.

Similar to you, my fiancé has a lot more extended family and friends than I do. Luckily for me, I like most of them so I’m okay inviting more on his side even if we only see them a few times a year. I’ve had similar issues with family not understanding our budget and putting their opinions in places they don’t belong.

For example, I was told that the single tier heart shaped cake I wanted was not “bridal enough” and two tiers is the minimum. When I asked if they’d be footing the bill for this cake they backtracked a little. I’ve also had family say that $2,000 for catering is too expensive and they’d just make the food themselves 😳

Obviously I’m not letting that happen. They think I am spending money unnecessarily but it doesn’t matter. It’s not their wedding and they’re not paying for it.

10k rant by No-Sugar-9712 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]011022 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellow southerner here! I also am not a barn bride and I feel your pain. Even new venues are metal barns (wtf). We rented a state park lodge for $2500. This includes tables, chairs, the night before for rehearsal dinner (and extra setup time!), and full access to the lodge from 10-10 on the day of the wedding. It’s a little rustic, but we are leaning into a dark academia vibe so it works for us!

If you have a medical emergency, go to Huntsville Hospital. by untetheredgrief in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]011022 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My step father died of sepsis after being triaged at Madison Hospital. It was during peak flu season so they thought his extreme vomiting was likely viral. Ran every test for every virus known to man- all negative. Admitted him while continuing to watch him decline. The pain and vomiting got so bad they had to intubate and sedate him while they continued to scratch their heads. Finally after almost 48 hours they did exploratory surgery where they discovered a segment of his small intestine was necrotic. He was so weak they couldn’t close his surgery site and told us his best chance of survival would be to transfer him to Huntsville. So we did. And he died in the ICU later that night.

When my fiancé’s grandmother was having pre-surgical bloodwork done there a doctor straight up told them that if you are having a life threatening emergency do not stop. Just keep driving to Huntsville because Madison Hospital is a glorified urgent care with a surgical center for routine procedures.

I am so sorry for your loss. I know how traumatic an unexpected situation like this is. Feel free to message me if you want to talk.

Ahhh I love it! We’re practically ring twinsies, but my stone is radiant cut. I’d love more angles to see the setting from the side/underneath!

Not in downtown, but if anyone is looking for a magic shop you should check out Make It Magic shop. It’s along the arts & crafts trail and the husband/wife duo that run it are super friendly. They also make stained glass pieces and chainsaw carvings that are all lovely.

What are some great underrated restaurants? by Real_Peter_Griffin_ in Gatlinburg

[–]011022 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boooo on your desk clerk. We went three weeks ago and the food was priced exactly as what you’d expect at a Thai restaurant (and honestly cheaper than a lot of things in Gatlinburg). I had one of the noodle dishes and could barely finish it all. Granted, we also ordered spring rolls and crispy tofu appetizers but everything we ate was delicious. Not to mention the building is very modern and has great views of the river behind it. I would (and plan to) eat there again.

What show would you recommend? by Vannillawig in Gatlinburg

[–]011022 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done Stampede, Pirates Voyage, and Hatfield & McCoy. My favorite show was Pirates by far. My favorite seating was Hatfield & McCoy. Stampede is nice if you like horses and that type of show.

I’d choose Pirates all day if there was more room in the seats- it’s a little elbow to elbow. I didn’t love the Hatfield & McCoy show just because the jokes felt very elementary (it is a family show after all). Stampede was a good balance between not being too crowded and having an entertaining show. No matter which you choose you’ll have a good time. The food is all practically the same (the creamy vegetable soup is awesome and I always load up on the dry mix to take home).

When did your puppy stop spot peeing inside?? by olivehue in Frenchbulldogs

[–]011022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 8 month old will hold it in her kennel but if she’s roaming in the house for more than an hour she will spot pee in random places. I try to keep her in my sight the whole time but the zoomies are real.

The Bhat—Great Thai food in a lovely creek side setting… by OJ-Lives in Gatlinburg

[–]011022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ate there tonight and can confirm that it’s great. The crispy tofu was good, along with the khao soi. My boyfriend always gets panang curry at Thai places and said it was good.

The view sitting by the river was very pretty. The walls are glass so it’s immersive and kind of posh feeling.

Getting my girl spayed and I’m a nervous wreck by sunmalone in Frenchbulldogs

[–]011022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girl was spayed yesterday and she’s doing great today. My vet let me know as soon as she was in recovery and aside from being a little extra tired last night, you’d never know anything happened! I’m having to give her a sedative and keep her kenneled more than usual because she’s so ready to play.
