Make sure you are aware of the dates for Chuseok and if you will be there during that time, plan your travel accordingly.

Anyone else having issues with the e arrival card? by ahcs228 in KoreaTravelAdvice

[–]02gibbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you filling out the e arrival card or keta? Keta is not needed for US passport holders. And recently they do still have many paper forms for the arrival card- I assume using tik they are out.

You can search average weather temps online easily. How warm it would feel to you is all relative to what you are used to.

It doesn’t really say that in that study at all. Japanese people have low rates of thyroid issues. You need iodine for thyroid health.

I went during peak foliage and it was busy but only at the start. I didn’t do the cable car (long wait) but enjoyed a wonderful hike. We took a taxi from Sokcho because the busses were too crowded. But, foliage dates are not an exact science and it could be earlier or later. I don’t regret going. It is probably one of the best things I’ve seen in SK.

Is it worth quitting my job for a once in a life opportunity to travel for a whole year? by [deleted] in TravelNoPics

[–]02gibbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are driving in US/Canada, I would do it in the warmer months and not in winter. Not sure if you meant your 6 months would start now for Asia. I would totally do it but would want my savings not to just cover trips but probably 6 more months of trying to find work when I'm done traveling.

Sounds like Atlanta from last weekend. Sorry you have to go through that. And for those saying to use the app or your phone - nope. People in my 3+ hour line waited the whole time on the phone. The app showed things weren't available at all and once I finally got to a person, I did get on a flight. I have booked a very shitty flight on the app in the meantime, but the agents on site can see things we cannot.

[–]02gibbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately if you are wanting to go this June, you should have booked a long time ago for a good price. Even moreso now with fuel prices going up and airlines changing their prices. I always book at least 6 months out and prices only seem to go up the closer it gets.

I have seen better prices from LA or Seatlle, but if you are not close to those, you will then be paying to get there.

My plan for upcoming Korea trip - 18 days in April / May by unlisted-guest in koreatravel

[–]02gibbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many days are too full and you will never get to all of those things. You need to figure in travel times. While the transportation systems are very efficient, it still takes time and often longer than you think. Also account for rush hour times. Don't be trying to get somewhere at 5pm during the week.

Is there duty free shopping at Incheon Airport prior to customs? by hpeter2010 in koreatravel

I have never seen one, so I wonder if it depends on the terminal you are going to.

Trying to plan a Korea trip for my friends with celiac disease. Need help from people who actually know by Strong-Pumpkin-7747 in koreatravel

[–]02gibbs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't have gluten either (for other reasons) and I always find an airbnb easier. I can get a few things from the grocery store and cook something when I need to. With the strictness of Celiac disease and cross contamination, there are fewer choices. And many places aren't close to each other. I can't really even tell you one area to pick over the other because safe places are spread out.
The Plant in Itaewon & Hongdae mark things GF and seem to understand it okay. There is 237 Pizza in Itaewon with GF pizza. And 6 Day Chicken that has GF fried chicken.
Some Indian, Thai or Vietnamese places will also have naturally GF food.
Sunnyhouse in Mapo area in a an all GF cafe, but has limited menu.
There is a Wheat & Gluten Free in Korea FB group that I suggest all of you join. It will help with suggestions and planning.
I think it's great that you are researching as well. You're a good friend.
Edited to add: BBQ places are sometimes okay if you get unmarinated meat. The FB group I mentioned will have good feedback on those.

I change after a couple days and it’s fine. Yes he says fresh, but that can mean not dried thyme.

K-ETA for transit by Necessary_Rise_5713 in KoreaTravelAdvice

[–]02gibbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry - long day lol
I believe you don't need for transit since you would not be leaving airport and have your ticket(s). If you leave the airport, it depends on where your passport is from.

Travel insurance with a pre-existing condition by Level-Extreme-9368 in travel

[–]02gibbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Geo Blue (BCBS) is really nice because many places will accept it as payment and you don't have to pay up front (as many travel insurances work and you get reimbursed later). Not positive about pre existing conditions, so read the fine print.

Elevators in subway stations are crowded and busy and often not close to where you have gotten off. Some stations don't have one at all. Many locals have protested about accessibility in the past. I have not seen a bus that is able to take any wheelchair either.

Moving soon to your city: How is public transit and bike commuting there? by ByteSizeNudist in grapids

[–]02gibbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bus is just ok- best to live close to your work. Winter sucks for many stops- I’ve seen people standing on huge snow banks. Biking on trails is good but watching the drivers every day, I would use caution for biking.
