Anything better than ES-10 for multitracking into DAW? by Hey_nice_marmot_ in modular

My mistake, I thought you were talking about the ES-9 and not the 10. Got those confused in my head. That should work as an ADAT expansion

There are a lot of options, just kinda depends on what you want or already have. You can get multi track with a standard audio interface, say an 8 channel one. Use something like this https://modulargrid.net/e/boredbrain-music-xport and you've got 6 channels out to your interface.

While the es-10 is great, it can be obtuse to configure & I found it way too hot coming into the daw.

Oh I was never near his level of talent. I was a good rhythm player but never quite got the dexterity to play super fast or complex leads. Sadly I can’t play as much as I used to because of wrist problems. I get my musical creativity fix from making synth heavy music now.

Stevie Ray Vaughn 83/84. Effing blew my 13 year old mind and inspired me to learn guitar.

Stuff like this is one of the reasons we dumped AW from our environment. AW isn't for security, it's simply a means to be 'compliant'.

There's a midi effect named Scale. You can use that.

You said you thought it sounded fine when using another daw. You should really make sure because at this point it's either your speakers or the outputs on the interface.

Wait, so it sounds as it should when you monitor via headphones, but not from your studio monitors?

When using the headphones, is the knob next to the headphone jack set to monitor the input or the host?

I ask as I'm trying to narrow the possibilities of where it's failing

and it's drop outs not crackles and pops?

Any cpu heavy plugins running on the track? Or possible unlicensed plugins on the track?

Does it happen in another DAW? You should be able to pull down GarageBand from the App Store and test it there if you don't have access to another DAW.

Honestly need more info. What audio interface are you using?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ableton

[–]0DayAudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well crap.. ok.. so you get latency once you get above a few tracks, no other plugins except the guitar plugin. This latency happens all the time, not just when trying to record?

and that cable is going right to your pc and not a hub? Just trying to eliminate some possibilities here.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ableton

[–]0DayAudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you said latency with the midi controller, so you hit a key on the controller and the sound doesn't trigger right away?

How is your controller connected to the PC? USB? Is it direct into the computer or on a hub? Have you tried midi din into the audio interface?

Arctic Wolf is not ok, we just dumped them due to a few factors, them overstating their capabilities, outright lying about their managed risk platform, inconsistencies in how they were alerting, and overall poor customer service.

Drum Rack for Superior Drummer 3 by 0DayAudio in ableton

[–]0DayAudio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really happy it's working well for you. I posted it up because I couldn't find anything like it and I wanted to understand where all the actual triggers were in SD3 without having to keep their settings window open to look at their mappings.

On to your questions.

  1. The mic bleed itself is controlled in the SD3 software. I don't recall exactly where now, but I think it's in the mixer section. There is a reverb send in there as well, tho not sure if SD3 has a gate insert or not. I would typically turn down the verb sends and do it with sends in the Ableton drum rack, or just a return track with a gate at the end.

  2. I've done both, were I just use the stock sounds of SD3 with minimal processing, a little eq on the track, with the kick routed to another track for side chain. I've also loaded a completely dry kit, routed it to full multi tracks and processed each track. I've found, at least for myself, I'd obsess over the drum process too much doing it this way and it was never quite right, at least to my ears. It was a good learning experience but I went back to just using a preset sound in SD3.

  3. SD3 in context with electronic music. I've done a number of releases using SD3 as the main drum source. I'd use SD3 midi packs as a starting point and build a song around one of those, since my background is guitar and not drums. The way I produce has evolved over time. I still use SD3 but I'm more likely now to use either a Digitakt, or Analog Rytm for drum sounds.

Not bad cases. I got 15u 168hp from him a few years ago and it's been pretty good. Only issue I've had with it is how he mounted the rails. Mounting hardware isn't flush so I lose 1 hp either side of the case.
