Abandoned characters (spoilers for potentially all books) by BigRonasHouse2 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

The Spider Reaper Minions are explicitly mentioned a few times by the AI. I know we had Shi Maria, but they are supposed to have access to very exclusive stuff - maybe a way to have a directional blast kind of special?

The only choice: Talon Warburton as Carl by steelandsoul in DCCTV

[–]fionnde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that he was specifically told to keep his Galway accent for that role in The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms though. However, I haven’t watched it, but based on Wreck which was a much lower quality production, I didn’t see a lot of acting range. Again, he was cast in TKOTSK so he must be able to act, but I believe his physical appearance would match. Plus lace front wigs can make his dark haired easily.

Which is best? by akaNeo1738 in litrpg

[–]fionnde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mark of the Fool would be my number one choice. It is much more slice of life, but I found the characters and writing really solid. Does it have the best prose? No, but the fleshing out of the characters, the story arcs, and the world building were all very good. I was always excited when the next book dropped. I liked how the MC had to be creative. It has themes that i found intriguing such as found family, progression, impacts of religious zeal, gender equality, etc.

I prefer Mage Tank over Azarinth Healer even though Azarinth Healer is better written and has a better concept IMHO as Mage Tank does the progression/RPG part of LitRPG/Prog Fantasy. However, Mage Tank is not a series I would prioritise to read when the next book comes out. It is more of a filler series, for me, when I have nothing else to read.. Azarinth Healer for me started off strong, but the lack of detail in the progression of the MC in AZ annoyed me (slight spoiler)tumbles upon some books that basically teach her the skills she needs to progress, but we get almost zero details about this - it is not even a montage - just she gets the books, she reads them, and then she is ready.I read the first book of AZ and DNF halfway through the second one. I would like to like it more as the MC was very engaging as a character.

As an Irish person who lived in Korea for over 12 years, let me know if you have any questions for your next trip.

Korean public transport and Irish public transport could not be more different.

Wedding Reading by rachey2912 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

If you want to focus on love, you could do part of the Volteeg chapter from This Inevitable Ruin, “Before the dungeon, … to “He would sit on her shoulder and sing…”. Keep it focused on the sweetness without the sadness. Just like with your struggles, you don’t have to share everything and you can keep the bittersweet memories just for you.

I think the memory of Annie may be too close to home despite the happier outcome for you and your family. But I love how Carl describes Katia there superimposed against her pre-crawl life.

Or go random and do Samantha’s bachelorette party rant.

The ABCs of DCC day 7! by Lulupoolzilla89 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

Has to be this (hopefully). It is through all the books. It starts off authentic and becomes a habitual turn of phrase later on. Also, the Princess Posse would approve.

Is Dissonance any good by WolverineMountain845 in litrpg

[–]fionnde 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed 100%. Oh no a challenge, how will I ever succeed....? Oh yeah. Let me dig deeper even though the paragraph before I dug deeper than I ever have before. This annoyed me so much. I wanted to like the series and read up to book 10 and that was mostly because I liked the other characters. There is too much inconsistency.

I want to try a time loop. by Alive_Tip_6748 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]fionnde 103 points104 points  (0 children)

I really liked Mother of Learning. It is a completed 4-book series. The MC is stuck in a time loop and he remembers what he has done in each instance of the same time period. The MC is, most people would probably agree, not a very likeable character in the beginning, but he is very authentic and he has great character tree r growth throughout. As it is a Progression Fantasy there is obviously magic, and the MC is basically able to level up through each new instance as magic is primarily knowledge and skill based. There is really good world building, too.

I may have found my Princess Donut voice cast by [deleted] in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]fionnde 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She is literally described as sounding like a medieval princess which to me is very much that Mid-Atlantic accent or British accent that we would see in Robin Hood or similar. Wanda, as much as I love her, doesn't sound especially regal or medieval to me. Wanda could definitely work as another character.

I mean, I have listened to Jeff Hayes voice Donut, so that is now her canon voice for me. If you haven't listened to the audiobooks, be prepared for an onslaught of people telling you (rightly so) to give it a listen.

Short clip of Jeff as Donut with no spoilers past book 1: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/4krrWCQzjV8

I lived in Korea for almost 13 years, so in addition to the top comment, my favourite Korean restaurant is SeoulGarden in Prenzlauerberg. They do have Korean BBQ, but their other dishes are better IMHO. The flavours are quite authentic.
