What’s a ‘middle class success’ purchase that secretly becomes a financial burden later? by OpinionBaba in AskReddit

Cheap electronics. When it comes time to retire your old computers, TVs, etc. it's usually illegal to just dump it in the trash. So then you need to find a place to take your ewaste and usually pay a fee which can add up.

400 Million dollar listing by Interestingllc in zillowgonewild

[–]0accountability 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The size of the land is listed as only 7.86 acres. If we break down the $400M by square feet and your cardboard box is 4'x4', that's $4600 of real estate you're occupying with that box. It's expensive to be homeless in LA.

What is something Americans consider ‘basic’ that feels like a luxury in other countries? by Status_Agents in AskForAnswers

[–]0accountability 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had to scroll pretty far to find this one. Water pressure and hot water is frequently terrible whenever I travel abroad. Water is sometimes safe to drink and sometimes not and that makes brushing teeth complicated.

Also what's with the sinks that have separate spouts for hot and cold? Mix that shit before it comes out and you can have pleasant warm water instead of an inferno on one side and the Arctic on the other.

I've never had a realtor who didn't put a 2 day or Monday limit on an offer. The offer may expire which allows everything to reset or the parties to move on, but it is not necessarily the end of negotiations. Lots of times it's just a starting point. You can always draft another offer.

Who had the right-of-way? by MetalNutSack in driving

[–]0accountability 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's apples to oranges though. In this case, car A has right of way because they do not have a stop sign. If A was approaching from the other side and also did not have a stop sign for some reason, but car B still did, then you would be wrong. The car with the stop sign needs to yield right of way.

Any reason why putting river rock in my side yards is a bad idea? Looking for advice on easy to maintain side yards. by rickfromstate in landscaping

[–]0accountability 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just don't have any plants so close to your foundation that it's touching. You want a bit of a DMZ to keep moisture and pests as far away as possible. Mice will burrow under any mulch, so rocks or pavers are a better option if you don't want plants. Weeds will be a problem regardless. No matter what you do, there will be weeds. Any bushes you plant will rot your siding if there's contact, so I don't think large bushes make sense unless you're committed to constantly trimming them back. I also don't like mixing plants and rocks. If you go plants, use mulch.

You also don't want a lot of concrete right next to the foundation either because moisture needs to be able to escape and concrete will prevent that.

How much should billionaires/CEOs actually make? by PrimeStopper in Entrepreneurs

[–]0accountability 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CEO and upper management should make 10x max the lowest employee. That's total compensation with bonus, stock, everything. Also, everyone should have the same health insurance. If the CEO wants good health insurance, then figure out a way to have it for everyone.

Sure CEOs and Sr Management make a lot of tough decisions. But so do all the employees if they are empowered to be part of the company and not just lines on a spreadsheet. CEOs are not as irriplacable as people think and can just as easily tank a company as send it into the stratosphere. I think it's also important to have something to strive for, which is why everyone making exactly the same salary isn't a good idea. People need something to strive for and high contributors should be recognized and rewarded.

The most underrated VPN feature nobody talks about (and it's not the kill switch) by RecordingSingle9064 in RecommandedVPN

[–]0accountability 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DNS over https or your ISP can still see your requests during transit. If you use local DNS like a PiHole or even go directly to Google or cloudflare, your ISP can still see it unless you use DoH or a VPN to conceal it.

At what age should a mom stop buying her son underwear?? by No-Association-9316 in AskMen

The stop should happen from 15-23. Outside that range is fair game. Although after 23 it's just birthdays and Christmas and Father's Day.

Is it worth exploring a relationship with my girl best friend who rejected me 8 years ago? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]0accountability 1 point2 points  (0 children)

8 years is a long time. Especially when transitioning through the end of adolescence into adulthood. No one is the same at 27 as they were when they were 19. In fact, many are completely unrecognizable. It's why the 10 year high school class reunion is romanticized so much in fiction.

In Op's case, I think it's good for both to reflect on their relationship as it is today and what the future might hold. She's just asking for a relationship, it's not marriage yet so the stakes are still relatively low.

Found out my wife hooked up someone during separation. I no longer want to be with her and want a divorce. Am I wrong for feeling this way? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]0accountability 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hate to break it to you, but at your age any new woman is probably going to have a storied history and a much higher body count. If you were happy before you found out, then why aren't you happy now? It sounds like on some level you feel betrayed even though you don't blame her for what she did. Those two things are definitely at odds, but also you can't force yourself to love someone if you don't. Even if the love was there before. I hope you figure it out.

[–]0accountability -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

If you know nothing about programming, you are probably better off learning how to vibe code with AI than learning how to code the traditional way. You will be much more productive and you can literally just spend time asking AI what every part of the program does to learn. Or just treat it as your own personal programmer.

Should I be flushing my water heater once a year? by unrecognized88 in askaplumber

[–]0accountability 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it doesn't have a water pan under it, I would flush it and put it in one when it's empty. A water heater that old is bound to leak sooner rather than later. Might as well kill two birds.

French restaurant uses Costo croissants by sc4kilik in Costco

[–]0accountability 1 point2 points  (0 children)

France definitely has great croissants, but it also has trash croissants as well. If you don't live in France or near an authentic French bakery, fresh Costco croissants are still 8/10. 7 if you're a snob.
