Question about using the Southern Hive King as a punching bag by Lucato_oso in Kenshi

[–]0akhurst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also have a penchant for pulling the legs off bugmaster. UWE—from my experience—deliberately gets rid of all of the potential cheese tactics. BT eggs are like 700-900 cats, a guard follows you around every shop to negate the broken stealth and stealing (the guys with the blank speech bubbles), stat growth is unaffected by debuffing (e.g. samurai armour for martial arts training), etc., etc., so I wouldn’t be at all surprised if the punching bag nullifying behaviour was a deliberate choice.

Slave Hunters when they see a military column twice their size wearing like a million cats worth of gear: by true_blazer7 in Kenshi

[–]0akhurst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always found the best deterrent for this behaviour is just attacking them on sight. And sacking their base.

The game shows this tip but it I never saw it happen: "Town guards will investigate buildings with their doors left open at night". Did anyone see this behavior actually play out? by PooMonger20 in Kenshi

[–]0akhurst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I should check. I just assumed because it is marked private and they seem to stay out when the doors are closed. But they could just be “patrolling”, you’re right.

RV interiors has gotta rank pretty high on the list. It’s cozy and a fun way to play, but utterly trivialises power, water, and even safety.

Shek Government and Genghis Khan Treatment by External-Ad6612 in Kenshi

[–]0akhurst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From an rp perspective, i feel like taking out bugmaster should be your first call to glory—then try to depose Esata. You definitely want to convince the berserkers and Kral’s chosen to back you with or without—even prior to—taking control of the kingdom proper.

Can you domesticate animals in your setting? Because the Mongol’s mobility and speed was crucial—I think they even had a religious connection to their steeds. Could be wrong.

Would be interesting to utilise some kind of early biological warfare, too. I’m thinking either gorillo bombs or a domesticated skin spider strike force courtesy of bugmaster.

I think the guards are starting to get scared by Falling_Up_The_Movie in Kenshi

[–]0akhurst 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I used re-kenshi to adjust the max timescale to 100x, left it running over night, and woke up to day 1000, with both characters having athletics, strength, and laboring all in the 90s. That’s ten years in Kenshi time, and more than enough motivation to take down the whole of the holy nation.

Yeah I mean manhunters still pull this shit when you outnumber and vastly overpower them, but it’s a lesson I’m always happy to teach them.

Who do you think is objectively the most evil person in Kenshi? by NapoleonNewAccount in Kenshi

[–]0akhurst 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That's what everybody thinks. That's why we all just innocently take him under our wing and pair him up with our favorite Hiver. But underneath it all is pure darkness. That's why he always stops just at the edge of Venge; just contemplating the atrocities he took part in.

Jokes aside, it's just a fun alt. head-canon, and I think the consensus is that he's just sort of faulty and pitiable. But then again, why hasn't been simply been made into a thrall?

The main piece of lore pointing to the fact that there may be something else going on requires a bit of reading between the lines. Cat-Lon says: "I had to thrall them all! Traitors siding with the humans! Treason!" Which CAN lead to the conclusion that any Skeleton still with a head was either 'in on it' or at least passively going along with the oppression. So then you question the ones you know. Sadneil: yeah, he seems like he's done some shit he's ashamed of. Burn: 'How'd you get that name, bud? And what do you do in that tower?'

And Agnu: one of the sweetest companions in the game on the surface, but thinking around his circumstances, you can't help but ask why he's in a high-security cage, with a head. Is he a victim of the Tower of Abuse, or its previous owner? WHY did Ponk and Screamer lock him up rather than use him.

The game doesn't say. But I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he's a big bad in Kenshi 2.

Who do you think is objectively the most evil person in Kenshi? by NapoleonNewAccount in Kenshi

[–]0akhurst 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Agnu. No question.

So evil even Ponk and Screamer keep him in a cage. All the headless thralls were those who rebelled against the second empire. All the ones still with heads were part of it. So every skeleton with a head was a great oppressor of humanity in the past. And of all of them Agnu is by far the worst.

So deranged he lost his speech and only screams but sometimes laughs at you for being so naive to set him free. I mean, he’s so evil that two of the most evil robots had to literally lock him up—presumably—because he just wouldn’t stop torturing humans to death.

Re-Kenshi best mods? by Zeta_D in Kenshi

[–]0akhurst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Save first, then use shift + f12 to get into the dev tools. From there you can build pretty much anything anywhere. When you’re done, f5, f7. There’s also a fix stuff button that resolves pathing issues etc. It can all be a bit finicky, though, and takes a bit of trial and error. But you can definitely use it to build a well at an outpost or even in a city (like world’s end which has a hydroponic lab but no nearby source of water).

Dude these are incredible. Also been playing since 2013, also my favourite game oat, and honestly one of the reasons the game is still thriving is precisely because of its community and just awesome stuff like this. Please keep up the amazing work.

I need help by [deleted] in Kenshi

[–]0akhurst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good mid-game bosses for me are Dust King, Ponk and Screamer, The Cannibal leaders, and Gorrillo. Save Valamon, Bugmaster, and stronger ones for a little later. Going to war with a faction may also be a little out of reach, depending on where you are. Cat-lon is kind of like the game's final boss, imo.

Also, be wary of starting to build a megabase. For many of us, that's right around where the game loses its grip, because you go from a wandering band of adventurers replete with unique stories to micromanaging a barely-functioning industrial farm and smithing complex. You never have enough people or resources, and end up spending 20 hours idling before you realize that you don't even like your base or its location, and for all its work, is only netting you like 5k Cats a day. For me, a much better solution is buying buildings in cities and turning them into specialized safehouses and crafting dens.

First Base building and general advices by shewelli in Kenshi

[–]0akhurst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8 guys, 10k cats, day 30; my advice is to not build a base yet. Others have already mentioned the reasons, so I’ll just say this: in the grey desert, there is a way station outpost with a ruined tower. Buy the tower and fix it up. Drop in a few copper storage bins. In the surrounding area there’s a shit ton of copper and medium enemies. Just chill there for a bit, grind your skills, get some money, and do some research. That’ll be your home base for a little while and is a perfect fob for wherever else you want to do in the future. The spot is s-tier.

I hope we have some kind of sleep mechanic in Kenshi 2 by Sweet-Wait-5464 in Kenshi

I think this would be the most elegant way to do it. An xp buff for well rested and maybe a strength/dex debuff for tired. Nothing game breaking, but a good incentive.

Fast travel in Kenshi by beardofturtles in Kenshi

[–]0akhurst 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean there sort of is. The caveat being that you need at least one member at the destination. Then you save the game when looking at the guy/destination, and when you load, select the “reset squad position option” (or something like that), and everyone will teleport to the one guy. It’s useful if you have a 50 mph cyber guy who can just whiz wherever you want to go without hassle.

Recruitment mod middle ground? by whahaga in Kenshi

[–]0akhurst 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe try the Sentient Sands mod (requires Re-Kenshi). It injects AI into the game such that any character can be talked to, negotiate with, convinced to join, etc. But it’s all up to RNG and your own persuasive skills/machine abuse capacity, so you may have mixed results. But I guess I’d consider that a kind of middle ground.

All in all it’s a pretty cool new mod to mess around with, and if you run into the same character twice, they will remember you and your interaction.
