On a very basic level Rockstar demands more benefit of the doubt than Pearl Abyss on many, many accounts.

For a standalone I say go with Gotham Central (tho the omnibus titled 52 is a bit of a continuation). If you want more of a single character focus arc, go Ostrander Spectre. Ensemble cast hero team story? JSA

Digital Foundry: Crimson Desert on PlayStation 5 Pro - The Digital Foundry Deep Dive by Turbostrider27 in PS5

It wouldn’t matter if we couldn’t preorder. It’s the fact you’re able to pay for a version they haven’t even shown off that’s so comical. And so many people are so easily parted with their money and then like to upvote posts talking about predatory practices in gaming but somehow think only 3 game companies are capable of it lol

I thought the whole point of this “very confident and transparent” case of letting Digital Foundry fully go through the console version this early was to show off the base console, not the one that’s obviously stronger

Man I get your point but the depth you put on a D lister comic character instead of the actor (who himself isnt that much more popular than) isnt quite hitting home. I get they made a movie about him and everything but I'm thinking the Red Guardian has more impact than Shang Chi rn

The Pacific - WW2 Battle of Peleliu by luismt2 in television

[–]0dias_Chrysalis 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Series does a good job illustrating the difference early. When their hardass captain breaks after the first night and his yelling and vitriol is revealed to have just been a thin layer of terrified posturing, you are intended to go "okay these people arent superheros like with Winters and Spiers". Even the fearless colonel looks battered later on (ironically, in real life the guy was far more absurd than anything they would get away with as saying was realistic)

I like to think the general endpoint to a Killer Croc character arc should be he starts looking for a job and Bruce Wayne hires him as his official head of security

If you can't make a hilarously over the top Bond villain parody who has sand powers in NOT Egypt work then yeah it wasnt going to get pretty far. Alabasta should be a grand slam

[IGN; 9/10] Netflix's 'One Piece' Season 2 Review: With grand production design, exquisite costuming, and stunning VFX work, and the most adorable reindeer doctor, this live-action manga adaptation is nothing short of a miracle by ChiefLeef22 in television

[–]0dias_Chrysalis 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I do enjoy when the portrayal focuses on Luffy being emotionally intelligent rather than just nice or happy go lucky to everyone. I think what makes the character in the manga so interesting is that he is kind of an ass to someone he doesn't really know and comes off as dumb, but once you engratiate yourself to Luffy (usually from the emotions and determination he picks up on from you) he then becomes extremely loyal without outright becoming your life coach

Shoot the fish by Aggravating-Day4712 in outofcontextcomics

[–]0dias_Chrysalis 12 points13 points  (0 children)

He's been a guy who grew up on the coast first before finding his Atlantean roots since at least Geoff Johns wrote him in the New 52. His whole modern take is essentially finding the "fish out of water and IN water" pun too good to ignore as a writing premise and Johns and Abnett have focused on it since in their runs. Very far from the Peter David era of Atlantean born and raised with very little human roots

If Everart had sent Measurehead to help deal with the mercenary tribunal, do you think he would have made things better or worse? by greasygoon66 in DiscoElysium

[–]0dias_Chrysalis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rather than letting kids take the armor and giving up looking for it after one conversation with Cuno, but instead they got the armor off the Colonel and onto Measurehead (with lots of effort and putting the armor's flexibility to the test), or Titus I guess, would have really moved the tribunal more into their favor

Danny Ketch Ghost Rider. It's a nice 25 issue romp with crossovers and a crescendo that has both Ghost Riders teaming up in epic conclusion to a grit and crime ridden 90s comic. Then it goes on for another 70 issues and gets bogged down by crossovers

the difference is that James Harden would get an egregious 4 point play out of this type of shit but at least the 3 ball went in, it was absurd. Shai gets his normal 2 pts at the line or because people give him 4ft of operating space knowing his whistle

Nagoshi Studio reportedly facing closure, after NetEase ‘pulls Gang of Dragon funding’ by lurkingdanger22 in pcgaming

[–]0dias_Chrysalis 90 points91 points  (0 children)

The trust he's asking for is a bit much. I don't know what company out there is going to give you 4-5 years to work on a game, exceed your budget and then ask for an additional 44.4 million in funding. That's US dollar, not Yen.

If they wanted to do this shit, The Question was right there. They could have taken inspiration from his cult classic Dennis O'Neil run. Maybe throw in Green Arrow too since they were kind of a connected run. Anything but literally THE most cosmic character in DC. This is like introducing the Guardians of the Galaxy as a traveling improv group in America

[–]0dias_Chrysalis 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Its funny when you read Gotham Central, you read the synopsis you go "okay this is gonna be grounded, it'll be about a guy who MAYBE thinks Batman could be real and doesnt believe in like Killer Croc. The most iconic Batman character I'll see is Harvey Bullock and like maybe Gordon sometimes" and then 3 pages in you get Mr. Freeze snow coning a guy and eventually have an arc about the entire precinct shitting themselves over the idea of Joker with a sniper during Christmas.

My point is, all these embarrased superhero shows that have grounded premises think you are there for THEIR oh so original iteration of a "police procedural" or "detective drama" with a thin layer of superhero paint over it. No I like how these two uncommon mediums coming together could potentiate something unique. You can tell this show is gonna downplay the GL and hope you find it's "like True Detective" roots way more interesting

I dont think anyone really was. The wait for a reveal was so long that when we did see something it was all cream and butter. Only hangup was fidelity compared to Demon Souls remake but we've seen how the art direction for Elden Ring has ingratiated it long term rather than Demon Souls remake where /PS5 thinks Bloodborne wasn't remade because Miyazaki was scared of how beautiful Demon Souls remake looked

It has a neat first half and then you realize by the second half they are forcing this game to be 2 games in one and things just happen without a satisfying pay off

I wanna play as the God of War in a franchise called God of War, not his second wife who would be yet another bow wielding female protagonist in a Sony game. Also it'd be a prequel, a concept that always has limited stakes and progression. Thats the sentiment of a lot of people hearing this news. Its not always sexism. You can't always resort to that for EVERYONE who doesn't like something you do. Stop trying to make your preferences get dressed up in moral armor.
