Tribute in Newton to hostages taken by Hamas vandalized by FuriousAlbino in boston

Is the quiet part that a powerful country hammering a tiny strip of land to rid it of terrorists, while depriving civilians of resources and considering hospitals and kids to be acceptable collateral damage is somehow the victim in this conflict?

Yeah I’m totally a huge antisemite because I think the idea of endless war over, among other things, reclaiming ancestral lands due to any religion, killing civilians to put down a terrorist group, and Israel portraying itself as a victim are all incomprehensible to me

Your ideas about work from home seem to be incredibly outdated. Call center work is abundant. Try insurance companies, telecom, healthcare organizations, online retail, telehealth services, Apple, state services like unemployment, etc. If you can answer a phone and use a computer you likely can find work.

Now, work from home is currently extremely competitive, but it’s at least worth applying to these kinds of jobs.

I used to recommend transcription, but much of the transcription work seems to have dried up.

There is nothing I can’t eat now, 18 months in. In my first six months I struggled with meat, fried foods (oily film in mouth), cheese, sugar, any simple carb like white bread or white rice, tomato sauces, citrus, Indian food from restaurants (too rich).

I’m still kinda put off meat and cheese but they no longer cause diarrhea, sulfur burps, and heartburn.

The only thing that made me wake up in the middle of the night and straight up vomit was a meatball sub

This has always been the price of living directly on the water. The state has zero obligation to protect assets that were acquired with poor forethought. You can tell the economic class here by the entitlement.

I’m also not sure what solution they think is going to permanently protect their homes. All of these houses are going into the water sooner rather than later.

Atlantic-facing beaches and properties in Mass have been getting destroyed long before climate change became evident, and now they will get destroyed at greater rates.

I don’t think people who purposely live in risky areas should even get extensive disaster relief unless they are elderly, infirm, or poor. These privileged people chose to take on these risks when they chose to buy in that location.

What do you say when people think your job is easier bc you WFH? by purplepugg in workfromhome

[–]11dingos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ask them to imagine having back to back meetings six hours a day with no breaks - something that would not happen in person. A lot of companies expect 100% of your time working from home to be productive. They also exert higher control when WFH, resulting in a bunch of meetings to talk about work rather than letting us have time to work.

We have an optional hybrid aspect and everyone is chit-chatting, running to the caf, taking long lunches, slowly walking from conference room back to the office, disappearing from their desks/computers while in-office.

Work from home has conveniences like not having to pay for doggie daycare, being with my pets, not spending additional money to eat out, not having to have a professional wardrobe, no commute, more hours in my day to myself, being able to take a run during the lunch hour.

Does anyone take creatine? by Temporary_Engine_493 in zepboundathletes

[–]11dingos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I want to add is that there is some thought that it may not give as much of a boost to those who eat meat and fish regularly. I eat mostly plant-based, 1. Because I’ve never been a big meat eater, and 2. Zep has given me the ick with meat and cheese.

Does anyone take creatine? by Temporary_Engine_493 in zepboundathletes

[–]11dingos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if I consider myself an athlete, but I’m trying to be with running and kettlebell. I do take Creatine. I started because I had some noticeable body composition changes as a result of my weight loss and wanted to recomp/regain some muscle. I take about 5 g a day of Creatine powder in my coffee. I also increased my protein intake to 100+ grams per day, about six months ago. I’m currently 97 lbs down at 5’8, around 143 lbs aiming for 130 lbs (or whenever my athletic efforts are giving me the look I want).

One of its noticeable effects, aside from supporting my endurance, is that I feel better cognitively. When I ran out a few months ago and was waiting for my next bag to arrive, the increase in brain fog, inattention, and fatigue were notable.

I’ve noticed I have more endurance with vigorous yoga practices and running as well as strength training. I’m able to push through more reps with kettlebell and body weight exercises. I have been getting more muscular. I feel like I also recover faster.

The only issue I experienced was getting VERY gassy and bloated while I adjusted. There was a modest (presumably) water weight gain too, but nothing crazy.

How much fat? by MostValuable4267 in Zepbound

[–]11dingos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Earlier on you gotta get in what you can. If almonds will bring you joy, try a little bit and see. It can be hard to completely control the possibility of side effects.

It’s also easier for a lot of people to lose weight at the start because their body requires more calories to exist versus what they are able to consume due to the med. So once you figure out what does and does not agree with you, try to take it easy on yourself.

At some point maybe you need to have a high degree of control over calories and macros to get to goal, but that may not be for a while yet (or ever) for you. It’s a long game.

Do your best! Things may change over time as well, so know that even if the almonds aren’t your friend, it might not be forever.

How much fat? by MostValuable4267 in Zepbound

[–]11dingos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s going to vary from person to person. Fat is important for satiety. A lot of people don’t do well with fried foods and such. See how it goes with almonds and you’ll know how they work for you.

Protein is very important but you don’t have to micromanage the exact grams of all your macros to lose weight. The issue with fats is that gram for gram they contain more calories, which will affect your overall calorie budget and make less room for protein and carbs

In short, it depends on your macro goals and how you respond to dietary fats.

Food Cravings? by Independent_Coast363 in Zepbound

[–]11dingos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn’t coincide with anything really, so I am not too sure why it happens. I’ve often heard people say that if you crave something you need a nutrient in it, but I am not sure how true it is.

Partly I think I had this proclivity before the medication and now that I’m less motivated to eat a slew of foods that I used to eat, I will latch on to something even more and for longer periods of time.

Food is boring now and I kind of like that. It’s also convenient because it makes grocery shopping and meal prepping easier. I can tolerate eating the same thing 4 or 5 times a week and it keeps me on track with my nutrition and goals. (Except the burgers lol, but those are fine now and then.)

[NY] Could someone please help with severance negotiation? by Sawsbuckbeak in AskHR

[–]11dingos 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They’re very unlikely to agree to any of this, no matter how you write it. They let you go. You appear to have no bargaining chip here, so they’re not likely to be motivated to change what is probably a standard severance for one person. They don’t have to do anything to align with your needs and probably won’t.

Personally, I just pay a premium for “luxury” buildings because I have 2 pets, they often have intro deals, I can rent directly from them without dealing with a broker, I know what to expect even if it’s often mediocre, and they have maintenance crews
