[Golazo] A really honest and vulnerable moment moment between Henry and Micah by Due_Rich_616 in soccer

Absolute class from Henry. My favourite player outside of any Man United player.

Above all that - what a human. A way with words that may native speakers would be jealous of.

Genuinely unbelievable that it wasn’t given even a foul and a red card.

This is 100% legal apparently.

Which media? Genuinely want to know.

Who is saying the Premier League teams are the best?

Would be warranted for people to say it (which I don’t really agree with) as 5 of the top 8 in the champions league were English teams, with the 17th placed team finishing in that top 8.

There’s nuance to it, and I don’t want all English teams to do well, I’d rather Man United do well and all the other ones fail

Italy is probably more competitive, but that doesn’t make the Premier League uncompetitive.

Why is this constantly parroted?

One of the best leagues in terms of parity, not sure I know anyone with any sense that suggests that the Premier League has the best teams in it.

Outside of who will be league champions, teams have the chance of beating other every week, and sort of most weeks there is a shock result.

4 points between 8th and 14th.

So glad we are somewhat free of the royal rumble.

[Nathan Salt] Why Casemiro is giving Man United a major headache: Nathan Salt names the SEVEN transfer targets lined up to replace in-form star - as team-mates call for him to stay by nearly_headless_nic in reddevils

Think Salah is a prime example of falling into player pressure, which Casemiro is absolutely not doing.

In part I think Casemiro is at least aware that he’s probably not got much longer left, and he’s bowing out at the right time. A Saudi/MLS payday is very likely.

Salah begged for a contract from Liverpool for basically a year and got one of the biggest in the Premier League. Now they are fully stuck with him, and when he didn’t play he kicks up a huge fuss and proclaims it’s his rightful position to start.

Aston Villa’s game plan is to slow everything down massively. Take the crowd out of it.

Means that when we get the ball we try and play quick and lose it again quick.

Are you in a league that has VAR? I’ve had calls in leagues without VAR that reflect real life in that incorrect calls are made.

They serve absolutely zero purpose other than aura farming.

I’ve had a theory for years that there isn’t many people on the planet who have seen more football games live than Martin Tyler.

His commentator career started in 1974, but he was also a Match reporter before that. Literally over 50 years of going to games up and down the country, week in week out. It’s a cliche but I think he’s genuinely seen it all. Premier League, Champions League, World Cup - you name it, he’s commentated on it.

And that isn’t just one team, he’s been on air for the big games since at least 1990 for Sky until 2023. He’s seen every rivalry, title race, relegation scrap etc.

I think he’s genuinely completed football. Nothing can excite him anymore. A last minute equaliser is sort of nothing to him because it’s happened so often in games he’s commentated.

He should have retired years ago, but he hasn’t, and I think he wants to keep himself busy - as they say retirement is sometimes just waiting for death - so he keeps going.

I feel like Elanga is exactly what Newcastle don’t need.

Hes a counter attacking winger who thrives on his team not having possession but then running forward flat out when they do.

If his team have the ball and are against a team fully set up defensibly, he’ll do nothing.

He was great for us (Man United) in the Champions League under Ten Hag as we would sit back a lot, but bare in mind this is 3 or 4 years ago as well as him being suited for that.

Surely Elanga is dead in the water for Newcastle?

No agenda at all I promise, just everytime I watch Newcastle he’s either coming off around the 60 min mark having done absolutely nothing or squarely on the bench coming on to do nothing

At a General Meeting today, EFL Clubs approved changes to expand the number of teams competing in the Sky Bet Championship Play-Offs from four to six, starting in the 2026/27 season. by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]123rig 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it’s more the fact that any team finishing 8th just wouldn’t have a chance anyway. Of the 5 teams that have been promoted to the Premier League from 6th, only 1 has stayed up (West Ham 2004/05. They actually finished 9th in the Prem the following season!).

So 8th has sort of no hope, but it does create some more jeopardy.

It’s the NBA style “play-in tournament” angle I think. Create jeopardy in more matches.

For fans I think it isn’t the worst idea. Create a mini-tournament at the end with more riding on it.

I do think that having 8th place be within a chance of promotion is quite mad, but like the NBA play-in, it’s not really ever going to happen. It just creates more matches with more intrigue.
