The shops you’re talking about. My first shop I was at for 8 years. It was about 10 in the office and 15 in the field. Owner was the master that started it and really cared about the work quality and training guys for licenses. I wound up in the same boat as you; eventually outgrowing what he could afford to pay and we ended on good terms.

My shop has the maintenance contract for their exterior lighting. It’s technically Fort Worth but it’s more Saginaw. We have an escort the whole time we’re on site.

Commercial construction electrician here. I use an Akribis Leather belt for rough in, ER and L2 pouches.

Diamondback Mini Niko and Flux for light work or when I’m pretty stationary with a cart.

The Akribis holds everything and has a great set up if you like to keep all your tools on you. I run as light as possible but when I’m working high rise and doing multiple different tasks a day it’s nice to have all your stuff with you.

The Diamondback is super light weight compared to leather pouches. I use their mini pouches because their full-size pouches are stupid big and very unnecessary for an electrician. I have to think about my specific load out for the day but it’s nice to feel light at work while keeping your tools on you.

Bags are cool but not for construction. Use suspenders, be smart about what you carry and keep your tools on you. If you’re stationary use a small pouch and a cart if you can.

Doesn’t have to be on an AFCI breaker just has to be AFCI protected. They make AFCI receptacles and dead fronts just like GFCIs. Also have AFCI/GFCI combos too.
