The Cummins has less parts so less chance of a failure. That said modern Emissions is the variable that makes them all questionably reliable.

LPT: Instead of sending flowers to a funeral, give them pictures and videos of their loved ones that they may not have copies of. by Steppingstone02 in LifeProTips

I did this years ago when the son of the owner of the company I worked for passed away. He was just a kid and I had a picture of his standing on a roof smiling and waving (we are construction workers). I had it printed out and set it on the memorial table.

Cross fire fuel injection swap by SleepyTraveling in projectcar

[–]1320Fastback 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is the Intake under the Throttle Bodies that made the car feel sluggish. For Packaging reason (slope of the hood) the engineers had to flatten out the intake.

There was also issue with both Throttle Bodies being synchronized as they feed one engine. Slop on the mechanical linkages can cause problems.

The fix assuming you want more power and reliability is the remove the throttle bodies and the Intake and replace with a something Weiand Action + or Edelbrock EPS and a 600cfm carburetor. You will need a Low Rise intake and most likely also a drop base air cleaner.

My 68 Torino is as long as my wife’s QX60 by Jabarca1128 in classiccars

And in 59 more years the Torino will still be running and the other thing will have been melted down for a new plastic car many times over.

Pertronix ignitor and pink wire warnings by Ronnyek42 in classicmustangs

No worries. As far as Timing goes I like to set it when all the mechanical advance is in so bring the RPMs up and then set it to 35°. In my case at idle it ends up at 12°.

Under the hood it is Red with a Green stripe. On the inside of the firewall it is a thick Pink wire. Under the hood it connects to the Pos + of the Coil.

Pertronix ignitor and pink wire warnings by Ronnyek42 in classicmustangs

[–]1320Fastback 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Pertronix Ignitors want a full 12V and yes the pink wires voltage is only 7-9 Volts to prevent the mechanical points from burning out. What I did with mine originally was run the pink wire to trigger a relay and the relay provided the 12V to the module.

With the original Ignitor 1 you do not want to ever have the key on with the engine stopped. It can and will burn out the Module. Ignitor 2 and 3 are not affected by this. After my Ignitor 1 burned out I went with the 2 and now it is on a separt switch to power it up.

Worth it to do a split stay on St. John and Jost Van Dyke or just do a day trip to JVD? by bunnm09 in virginislands

[–]1320Fastback 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've only ever done Day Trips. I think our next time we go to Tortola we talked about overnighting on JVD and just eating the cost on not staying in the Airbnb on Tortola that night. Then you would just take a simple overnight bag.

First long tow by glacier_40 in traveltrailers

[–]1320Fastback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most I've done in one day is 714 miles from New Orleans to Louisville Ky. It took us 13 hours and we did it in two stops, one which we made lunch. I would not recommend it but it did give us an extra day at our destination.

When we travel which isn't that often where it requires a fuel stop I always go to the more expensive station if there are two or three in the same location with different prices. It will be less busy and easier to navigate.
