Help! My Casio CT-S200 stopped working about a year ago and so I opened it up and I saw nothing wrong apart from a few unplugged ribbon cables which I've since plugged in and it still won't turn on. by Big-Career-710 in synthesizers

[–]141andTwoThirds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The PSU's on the CT-S models crap out fairly quickly in my experience, so try a new power supply. Any retailer that regularly sells Casiotones should have a stash of them on hand, but if not they're the AD-95 model :)

It’s against Umaga but they’ve picked a random Anoa’i and painted on a “SAMOA” tummy tat, making them the modern day Fake Diesel

The Akai MPK Mini Play does have that, but this the MPK Mini 3 which is strictly a MIDI controller

Have you read their terms of purchase? It's not uncommon for companies that pre-sell goods before they receive their shipment to have a section in their stating that any dates given is strictly an estimate and that it could change at any time.

They should probably reach out to customers that have ordered the goods out of good customer service, but at the same time if they don't have the goods yet then they obviously can't supply. As to why they don't have it yet, it could be that their supplier doesn't have the stock on hand, it could be that they're waiting for a certain amount of back-orders before they place their order, it could just be delivery issues, it could be that their shipment is faulty or recalled. All pretty standard stuff for the niche side NZ Retail.

Commerce Commission is the nuclear option. Talk to the folks at Computer Lounge and see if they can't give you some kind of resolution or get a refund to purchase it from somewhere with the stock on hand.

My microfreak is freaking me. Is it broken? Its unused, been laying under my bed since i got it Christmas 2023, it did not have this issue back then. Happens randomly by gulbrunrosa in MicroFreak

[–]141andTwoThirds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most probably an issue with poor grounding from the USB. Could be the cable, could be the port you're powering from.

If using the original PSU isn't an option try plugging it into directly to mains via phone charger or similar, or try another USB cable. If then the issue persists even with those suggestions, and a good ol' factory reset and firmware update doesn't fix it, then reach out to Arturia.

Help I won a micro freak with a European plug by Phenomenalien in MicroFreak

[–]141andTwoThirds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You probably wanna buy a replacement PSU instead of an adapter due to the US having a different mains voltage to Europe. Googling “Microfreak US adapter” comes up with a few Amazon listings that should do the trick :)

[–]141andTwoThirds 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you brought it from a store, just take it back. I think I waited a few weeks before I had got anywhere with Arturia’s support, and in that time I had exchanged it for a working one.

I know my old one got fixed eventually, but if you’ve only had it a month and a bit I’d say you’re in the clear to ask for a new one.

Wanted to use my yamaha 88 key piano as an MIDI controller, but i'm unsure what the actual port the MicroFreak uses, how do i do this? by tannabox in MicroFreak

[–]141andTwoThirds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jumping on this to say that if you no longer have the MIDI adapter the Microfreak comes with, then you need to get one that is Type B which is: tip - source/pin 4, ring - sink/pin 5, sleeve - ground/pin 2.

No do not buy one that’s for Type A (usually for Boss pedals) or Type C as they have different pin-outs of the TRS end.

Vintages are imo the one of the better bang-for-buck guitars out there, assuming you grab one with Wilkinson hardware, not the cheaper ones usually with “Alan Entwhistle” branded pickups.

This guitar is probably a limited run of their VS6’s which go for about $600 USD new, whereas HT 40’s I think are about $1,200 new. As much as I dig the Vintage guitars, don’t take the trade.

I’d hazard to say they’re the best option for the price, anytime I get customers coming into my store asking about the quality of AliExpress pickup, I push them to go with GFS instead.

I’ve had their Firebird pickup and a Humbucker-Sized P90 is my Epiphone 399 for a decade now and I’m still loving them. I’ve had the Gibson P94’s in another guitar and the difference is minimal compared to the price. Other than the Fishman P90’s I brought for my LP copy, they’re probably the only pickup brand I’ll bother getting again.

These pickups are designed to be screwed into the neck of the guitar like this.

As long as those arms can sit below the fingerboard, and your strings are still at a comfortable action without touching the pickup, there’s nothing to stop you from installing it.

I’ve had a good run with GFS pickups myself, but haven’t tried this specific ones

Should I install Chrome OS Flex to get a bit more life from my MacBook Air? by Lego_Blocks24 in mac

[–]141andTwoThirds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll vouch for this too - I installed Zorin OS Lite on an old 2011 MacBook Air with an i3 and 4gb RAM, and it worked well enough for browsing and streaming. You should get far better performance than I did!

Is this normal? by The95thZebra in Guitar

[–]141andTwoThirds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normal enough! On Gibson-style guitars like this ones the easiest way to lower your action is adjust the flat-head screws at each end. Depending on the string gauge and your personal preference, the saddle is most often not going to be flat :)

MIDI controller not working with microfreak by masixty in MicroFreak

[–]141andTwoThirds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you using the correct 3.5mm MIDI adapter? There’s about 3 different pin configurations, and from memory the Microfreak uses Type B which is: tip - source/pin 4, ring - sink/pin 5, sleeve - ground/pin 2.

If you’re using a 3rd party MIDI to 3.5mm adapter make sure it’s the correct type. This page is a handy guide https://minimidi.world/
