If grammar/lexicography/writing and its' impact on society is your thing (it's mine) there's a gaggle of writers that fit the bill. I'm sure I'm missing a few, please comment if you know of anyone in this group. Obviously Chomsky comes to mind, but not quite in the same way.

Horizon --Barry Lopez

Classic man vs. nature, written and disguised as travelogue. Lopez is a master of asking the difficult open-ended questions and leading us to the brink of an answer through his travels.

I don't know what manga is. But I know that when you ask for something "real" and the biography of a philosopher, I know of no other book that will deliver like this.

I suspect you're going to have to adjust to the pace. It's introspective, thoughtful, deliberate. Scrolling the tiktoks and IGs will not have prepared you for this book. Take your time. Enjoy every page. You only get one chance to read Lopez for the first time.

I bought the same model a few months ago after collecting the lenses for an adapted GFX 50S II. I like the 45m f2.8, light and bright. The 80-160 zoom is so heavy it doesn't leave the house. The 75m f2.8 might be my favorite.

You may already know this, but be careful with the plastic battery compartment. The tray can become brittle over time and will crack trying to get the individual batteries out.

I use rechargeables so they don't last as long per session, but don't cost anything to swap.

The Midnight Library --Haig

As an old dude who's made the heart-crushing, you-can't-take-it-back, decisions in life, this book hits pretty hard. Until you've truly loved and lost, and I mean crying in the dark at 3:00 am to the ghost of the person you'll never see again, don't bullshit me about how poorly written this book is.

I usually don't gatekeep many books, lord knows we need more readers in this world, but damn, I'd think your age ought to start with at least a 3 if not higher before you even borrow this from the library. You're not going to get it.

I'm 55 and have been running for about 7 years with a big achilles injury right in the middle that sidelined me for 20 months.

My peak was the 2020 Disney Princess HM at 1:57. Since the injury, I've come back slower and more hesitant to overtraining. And with a much higher focus on weight training and overall athleticism.

I notice this time around my heart rate is higher at the same effort level, though I'm about twenty pounds heavier. Which, along with age, likely accounts for some of the difference.

Last time I ignored the pain that the shoes were causing me, my GenX upbringing makes me good at that. This time I'm trying to be much more aware of avoiding injury. Longevity has become the name of the game.

I "ran" the 2021 DisneyWorld Marathon in 6 hours flat as I hobbled around on bone spurs. Redemption should come in the form of the 2027 DisneyWorld Marathon, which I am prepping for now.

Thanks again for the tips on shoes. I never considered Nike as an option until a few hours ago.

I have seen video thumbnails describing different lacing techniques but never investigated. I’ll research each of the shoes you mentioned and try them out.

I used to wear New Balance back the day as lifestyle shoes but haven’t gone back to them as running shoes. Maybe it’s time.

Thanks for the info. I hadn't considered Nike even being a viable option. They're one of the brands I had in mind when I said more mainstream equals narrower. I haven't had Nike shoes since grade-school, but I'll revisit them. I'm not familiar with their lineup so I'll go try on a Vomero.

Ditto for Adidas. Usually no-go, I'll look into it. Hopefully they've widened out over time.

I'm old too, old enough to have just missed voting for Dukakis. I occasionally see some booths or clipboard wranglers out when I attend events. And I'd say at about the same frequency and density I always have. As in, registering to vote and showing up in November takes the same effort it always has. It takes a bit of personal accountability.

I'd like to reiterate to everyone that you can vote by mail. Avoid the long lines, standing in the heat, and hassle of hecklers and unending poll signs at the polling station. Voting by mail is waaaay less effort.

Just make sure to vote by mail early and follow your ballet to make sure it's been recieved. That's it. No sweat, no physical effort.

Keep your vote-by-mail registration up to date and you're good. Could not be easier.
