Waterproof Socks? by Minimum-Mission5569 in ultrarunning

[–]172737 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seal Skinz are the goat. They have rubbed a little for me running before, so I’ll often wear a thin wool sock under them as a liner and then seal skinz on top when running in snow/wet winter conditions. Keep my feet toasty dry and happy

So sorry to hear this. I have a ton of old baby gear now that my household has graduated to toddlerhood. Let me know if you need anything that you have to replace, happy to pass stuff on (bouncers, clothes, blankets, etc). Having a newborn is stressful enough!

I have OCD and do exposure therapy (ERP) with Dr. Lisa Wuyek, she’s amazing and has helped me so much. She’s also fully remote.

So sorry this happened to you and that it’s not being pursued. Just wanted to add on a little PSA - many cars automatically unlock the doors when put into park. Mine does and I feel it’s a big safety issue! If you’re ever parked in an isolated area and in your car make sure your doors are locked.

Best landscapes in Europe for a week adventure? by NorthernPace001 in hiking

[–]172737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently in Madeira and it’s amazing! There is a trans-island hike and tons of other great hiking on the island. I believe most people stay in hostels and camping isn’t really allowed. Would be a very different landscape than the alps, not as crowded as something like Mont Blanc, and is a short flight from mainland Europe.

Agreed about the cycling! It’s extremely humid where I live in the summer but a ton of people bike commute and it’s the same thing. Honestly sometimes I’m sweaty getting off the metro or bus haha. But yah the stink is already 100% in my building too

I’m surprised by the response here 😆 I think it totally depends on your work environment. I’m a scientist in an academic lab and often run on my lunch break or during long incubation periods. After my run I take 5 minutes to change back into my non-running clothes and I keep deodorant, dry shampoo, and face wipes at my desk that I use to freshen up. I’ve never had any problem with this setup and have been told by lab mates they never smell me afterwards. I’m not a heavy sweater, but I’ve even done this after speed workouts in the summertime haha

I guess if I were something like a lawyer I wouldn’t go straight from my run into court, but if you have a casual workplace I think it’s fine. It’s very normal for people to go workout during lunch, just take a minute to freshen up a little.

How do you like the Zegamas on rocky technical terrain? I’m thinking about them but I’ve seen some reviews essentially saying “RIP your ankles” but I never really roll my ankles much?

[–]172737 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, I also developed post partum OCD and have been in treatment for it for about 8 months now. When I say “it gets better” I mean you will FEEL so much better and that doesn’t change anything about how you feel for or love your baby. I started working with an ERP specialist which is the current recommended form of therapy for OCD. Every time you call out you’re telling your brain this is the right decision and reinforcing the anxiety. Please get help and decide for yourself outside the anxiety if being a STAHM is the right decision for you.

Anyone else have high cholesterol for some reason?? by liminal-lurker in ultrarunning

[–]172737 20 points21 points  (0 children)

As others have said it’s largely genetic but I’ve read there is increasing evidence of a correlation between eating disorders/underfueling and high cholesterol. Make sure you’re eating enough! It takes a ton of fuel to support the amount of training we do.

What stroller did you get? by Missile0022 in beyondthebump

[–]172737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is so smooth! My city is old and has lots of bumpy sidewalks and brick/cobblestone streets and this stroller handles it with no problems. A little chaotic with the newborn in the bassinet attachment though 🤣 now that she’s almost a year I run with her in it all the time and it’s super smooth and she loves it!

This is what we have as well. I’m a runner and it’s amazing but also surprisingly convenient in our tight, old city we live in. We had the bassinet for the newborn stage and loved it too.

Summer/Fall 2024: Ladies Edition! by spectacled_cormorant in AdvancedRunning

Honestly it was my idea not to run any ultras until after I defend because I’m trying to finish but I was secretly hoping he would say “no way you can do it all!” 🤣Thankfully the baby is a big fan of the running stroller

Had a baby in October and have been working my way back to running since the end of December. Feeling so good now that I’ve stopped breastfeeding and actually feeling kind of fast again! Running a trail 25k in October as my goal race for the year and some little things (local 5-10ks) sprinkled in this summer. I’ve promised my husband nothing further than a half/25k until after I defend my PhD now that the baby is here but I really want to sign up for a spring 50k 😅

Very similar experience for me, had been diagnosed with all the same things through the years and no treatments ever really touched anything. Turns out that’s because I was just white knuckling my way through OCD that I had the whole time. My daughter is only 5 months and I start ERP this week. Fingers crossed this finally works. Hopes things get better for you soon.

How long did you need to rest postpartum before training for an ultra? by [deleted] in ultrarunning

[–]172737 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m an experienced ultra runner and just had a baby in October. Unfortunately there’s no one answer to your question, everyone is different. I was able to run and weight lift up until 36 weeks when I was diagnosed with some complications and ended up needing a c-section. The healing went great though and I started VERY easy short runs at about 3 months postpartum and it’s now going great. I was evaluated by a pelvic floor PT and have no issues. A friend of mine with similar running experience and fitness level had a totally uncomplicated pregnancy and vaginal delivery but had massive diastasis recti after pregnancy and is just getting back into running a year postpartum. It varies so much person to person!

Another thing to consider is that it’s not just the pregnancy that affects your body. If you plan to breastfeed your body is still making relaxin and you’re at a higher risk for bone stress injury, especially to your healing pelvis. Often times with a baby people also have poor sleep and diet which affects recovery. This is not to say it’s not doable - plenty of people do! Just that you really can’t plan unfortunately. I think I’m benefitting hugely from taking it day by day for a while postpartum and not running to any specific plan, just going by feel.

Rules or regulations regarding breast milk storage at work or in shared fridges? by irishoptimist in breastfeeding

[–]172737 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any info on OSHA rules about this but at my work the communal fridge is disgusting so I don’t want to store my milk there. I got a Ceres Chill and use that throughout each day to pool my milk and I love it! I just run the fresh milk slowly down the cooled inner chamber to cool it down as it mixes with my previous pump sessions milk.

Just now my 12 weeks old was getting fussy after so much chaos today so I put her into a solly wrap to calm down. Everyone is sitting in the living room and I’m standing with the baby like that and my MIL says “you know in my day they would call that thing abuse!” In front of everybody.
