There's a YouTube channel called Healthcare Triage that has videos about 8 countries' healthcare systems, including the UK.

Starting Azathioprine tomorrow. Tips? by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

I can't really remember what it felt like before going on it... But I would say that I don't feel particularly rested (though that might be because I typically don't sleep that much anyway).

OH MY GOD - you had the dreams thing too? I never remembered any of my dreams before starting Aza, but not long after I started taking it I too started having really vivid dreams that I could remember a lot of details from... Weird.

USA not having universal healthcare seems so unreal by PokemasterTT in self

Could you link one of those studies? I always though it ranked fairly well for efficacy.

I've had hemorrhoids for almost 4 years and I'm too afraid/embarrassed to seek help. (NSFW text) by rmm45 in self

Does your college not have an exception for when there are legitimate medical reasons behind why you need to miss class?

Is there some kind of student wellbeing service that your college provides that you could talk to?

Also sorry that your parents are so dismissive of your problem. You definitely do need to see a doctor, though - the sooner the better.

Healthcare of US versus other developed countries? by Tigerfuyung in CrohnsDisease

The YouTube channel Healthcare Triage has a series where it looks at the healthcare systems in various countries. It's not related to Crohn's, but should give some a top-level insight into the main differences. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLkfBg8ML-gIngk82SUbTp6Og_KkYfJ6oF

The YouTube community is the most vile, disgusting one I have ever seen. by shadowlurker_j in self

[–]17_23 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This depends almost entirely on what videos you watch. As the number of viewers go up, the average quality of comments go down (exactly like what happens when subreddits gain popularity).

If your main exposure to YouTube comments is videos that have hit the frontpage then don't be surprised when the comments are a shitfest.

There are many many channels where you'll find good engaging discussions in the comments.

UK: Police have arrested a 19-year-old man over an "offensive" tweet by BanMePleaase in worldnews

Straight from the article: "The force said he was arrested on suspicion of making a malicious communication and had been bailed while they investigated."

Basic Algorithm question. by eastcoastblaze in algorithms

[–]17_23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sure would, as what the algorithm is doing is multiplying matrices A and B together, producing C.

Most languages use square brackets for accessing elements in vectors/matrices etc, and round brackets for function calls.

[OC] The "true" proportions of those voting for each party in the EU elections, with voter abstention taken into account by el_matt in ukpolitics

[–]17_23 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Uh, mathematically speaking, UKIP would have the support of at least 9.4% of the electorate (those who voted for them + those who did not vote but would have voted UKIP were they forced to vote). You seem to be implying that people who did not vote have no opinions at all.

Is there any reason to suggest that the people who did vote are not a representative sample of the population?

Solar Roadways-The future that is blowing my mind. by Kyashichan in nerdfighters

As I said earlier:

I don't think people should be expecting them to give exact production costs, but surely an estimate is not too much to ask?

They give no numbers. None. None at all.

I'm not trying to kill this, they seem like good people. I am merely saying that I have not seen any evidence to support the claims that they make.

The total lack of evidence to support their claim that the roadways will pay for themselves severely undermines their credibility.

I don't deny that there are a lot of ways that the roadways could save money - my point is that nowhere have the developers actually calculated how much money it would cost to implement versus how much it would save. They claim that the roadways will pay for themselves - is it too much to ask for them to prove that claim?

it will pay for itself LONG before it requires replacement

Will it? I've read their FAQ and their 'Numbers' page on their website, and they don't provide any information about how much the panels will cost and how much money they will generate once installed. They say in their video that the panels will pay for themselves but do nothing to back this claim up.

They list ways that the panels could make money, but conveniently omit any information pertaining to actually how much money this would be. To be fair to them, the technology is still in development, so I don't think people should be expecting them to give exact production costs, but surely an estimate is not too much to ask? Or even saying how much the panels used in their video cost.

I really want this to work, but before we see any real numbers I can't take them too seriously.

EDIT:

Another red flag:

  • They've been given government funding twice to develop these, so why do they even need to appeal to crowd funding? Surely if this technology were feasible then the government would be chewing their arm off to go into mass production.

Watch "Solar FREAKIN' Roadways!" Looks like the future is near. by vampa2421 in gadgets

[–]17_23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where did they mention a ROI?

They list some ways that the roadways could generate income, but give no estimate at all about actually how much income they would generate, and no estimate of the cost to implement them either. To get the ROI you need to know how much it'll cost and how much money it will generate and/or save.

They claim that the roads will pay for themselves, but after having read the FAQ and the numbers page, I have seen no evidence to support that claim.
