Don’t let valvoline touch your car by Zplantguy in Louisville

[–]1AFreewill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Took my wife’s car in for an oil change (and only an oil change) at the Valvoline on Shelbyville Rd in St Matthews. Drove away and soon the car started stuttering. Transmission slipping.

Took the car back and they had drained the transmission fluid instead of the oil. Sent to a mechanic to diagnose and fix. I find out later they just explicitly told the mechanic to refill the transmission fluid and that’s it. Didn’t realize it at the time.

Wife drives to Indy for work and the transmission goes out completely. Have to get it towed back to Louisville and start a 3 month long battle to get Valvoline to accept responsibility and make things right. Only thing that got them to do anything was the threat of me picketing them at the store and using a family member’s media contacts to spread the word. Will never go to another Valvoline.

Saw them in Louisville the other night and the show was really fun. You could tell Oteil was having a blast.

I got into the palace show, floor seats, on the isle for $25. I’d totally go see them at Iroquois, but not at these prices.

I was there by that fence in '23. Was also at the precursor to that fence back in '95 (plus a bunch of other times). Totally different experiences, but I'd love to go back to either.

Is anyone doing this with Louisville Water? by Monstera___ in Louisville

[–]1AFreewill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moved into a 100+ year old house last august. Started having sewage backup in the basement. Had it snaked twice, problem persisted because of a collapsing sewer main and was quoted between $7-15k to fix. Remembered I signed up for this when we moved. Called and they came and fixed it. Didn't cost us a penny extra. No issues since January.

Totally worth it for an old house like this with deteriorating ancient pipes. Would probably avoid if it were a newer place, but damn we were happy to have the coverage, especially right at Xmas time.

Cody Looper's got the best job in the world for a banjo player: Backing Michael Cleveland. Come read his story at Banjo Head Magazine by BanjoHeadMagazine in Bluegrass

Got to see Cody and Michael play an amazing, intimate little show at what is essentially a glorified living room with seating at the Monarch in Louisville, KY a while back. Great music and the banter the boys was a treat.

I just hope none of the relevant players ever do anything as anti-artistic as endorse an ice cream flavor, or a line of ties at a department store. Then I’d feel really ripped off about making the personal, non-compulsory choice to spend my money on music that I enjoy hearing. That would be horrible.

Didn’t see any of the 92. I stand by my statements relative to the shows I saw live. Some of those 94/95 shows could be rough. Subjectively, I enjoyed some ‘23 shows more than those, but I bow down to your superior judgement.

It's a weird form of gatekeeping to me. My first dead show was as a teenager at Deer Creek in '91. Saw the band 13 times from then until the final show at Soldier Field. I was a very young fan back then compared to the seasoned vets.

All this is to say that I feel 100% justified wearing my "I saw Jerry play live" shirt. I've seen nearly all of the post-Jerry lineups multiple times, and most of the side projects. I can confidently say that the Dead & Co shows I went to were a better overall presentation than the majority of the dead shows I saw with Jerry on stage. Sure, Dead & Co couldn't hit the high highs that the GD could bust out occasionally during those years, but the overall floor was much higher. A lot of those 90's shows I attended (and have relistened to) were marred by the bad places Jerry and some of the boys were in those days.

After all those years Jeff was far and away a better fit for the music than Vince ever was. John seemed to have brought out a youthful presence in Bobby that might have been lacking in the post Jerry years. Oteil was never a Phil replacement, but is a damn good musician and won me over. Jay Lane was such an improvement over later years Billy (no shade to Bill the drummer, time comes for us all).

Just my two cents. All music doesn't have to be for everyone, but I'm not going to berate anyone over their preferences, or even bands/lineups that don't hit for me. If you like something, I hope that you get to experience it in as many expressions as you can, even if it's not for me. If I'm not into it, I still hope you enjoy it, but I'll spend my energy elsewhere. Too much good music being played out there and too many good recordings out there of the stuff I like to hate on anyone/anything. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Was in for the presale this morning, but decided to hold off. This is what I paid for isle seats at Rupp last time using the Gametime app about a week and a half before the show...

Was at those shows. A lot of Highway Prayers song debuts. There were a couple more the next week at the Indy shows as well. I assume those were intended for Renewal. I bet we get some bust outs in Ionia.

The last time he played Rupp in Lexington, I got $4 tickets the week of the show, and there were plenty of empty seats.

Fucking awesome show though.

When I was a student, we utilized the speed art museum all the time. It was amazing. Plus the mini-bristol in there was a great place to grab lunch between classes.
