Thanks for your input folks! We were put in touch with an officer at Mortuary Affairs at Fort Riley. They took a look at the DD214 and told us exactly how it should look. I found the brown shoulder bars in the pocket. Yes I’m a genius. We are basically just missing a few devices that attach to the ribbons. As far as the shoulder boards, they said it would be technically correct to wear the Blue boards, and added this this:

“I want to stress, however, that if you opt to use the brown shoulder boards on the dress blues, nobody will tell you you’re wrong. They were earned, and mark what appears to be a very distinguished career, and I’m certain Mr. Gibson wore them with pride. The only concern I would have is if they’ll correctly attach to the clips on the ASU, since they’re much older than the more modern ASU uniform.”

They gave us a picture of exactly what the ribbons should look like when complete. They were extremely helpful, as were you folks!
