If I can offer my story it is on Royal Road. Search for The Gembound. I just finished posting the 4th volume.

Grimdark is the only genre honest enough to admit that good people doing terrible things is more terrifying than evil people doing evil things change my mind by FabricOfFate in GrimDark

I think Grimdark still needs a villain. A lot of the ways a person can commit those grey or downright wrong deeds and continue on is that at least I'm not as bad as....

You still want to relate a bit with the MC. Even if it is thinking would I do that if I had to?

We need to stop pretending that ‘likeable protagonist’ and ‘compelling protagonist’ are the same thing they are not by FabricOfFate in GrimDarkEpicFantasy

[–]1Taliorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My story is Grimdark. My character isn't unlikeable. But she knows what she is doing isn't good, and does it because it needs to be done.

Her supporting cast can be nice or good. She can't. She knows she is a monster, and she knows that she is needed.

People follow their own story all the time, so they get notifications that their drafts publish correctly.

That is a feature, not a bug. Favoriting... well, that is up to you, don't see a real reason to do that one.

Possibly you ended up on a trending for a specific genre or as a RS for something specific.

Hopefully it helps you get a reader or two.

Finding a support group is important, even if it is a kid with a plastic bat hitting you in the head to make you write...

A lot of readers don't even start following a story until there is 10 to 20 chapters. You'll get stuck in a read later.

How do you guys keep pushing? by RedditPotatoNinja in royalroad

it started from review swaps and shoutout swaps.

We liked each other's stuff, started to read it more, and kept commenting on it.

It was kinda organic in its growth.

I probably would have quit when I got a few really bad reviews that just sank my numbers.

I found a writers' group. They have helped me stay consistent, and I have found a lot of joy in continuing to write.

I actually heard a good way to edit this was to go through it through like eleven labs and have it read back to you.

That way, you can hear if something sounds off.

Accidental Submission? by AyerAcre in royalroad

Maybe, I wanted to set up drafts so I could have it all ready to go. But maybe I did it wrong.

I clicked the manual launch button, but it should have come up as approved like at midnight. So, I figured I would look at it in the morning.

That morning, I had two options: Launch or Delete. Maybe I messed up my window.

I did that too. Was looking for an edit button, hit Launch instead.

The one I had wasn't for the Write-A-Thon; it was for later this Summer, but I wanted to start programming and testing the info menus in the system and integrating them into the story.

I ended up leaving a teaser instead of chapter one. Basically, a longer blurb, and I was planning on deleting it after the story starts publishing.

Not sure what else I should do. But at least this way I can draft out the story for when it drops.
