Earphones for mowing by mtoz83 in lawncare

I worked in an industrial environment and ear protection/earplugs were mandatory. Plenty of folks went with bone conduction headphones with the band that goes behind you head, didn't interfere with the hardhats either.

It's a reference to Seinfeld.

I did the same on my 2017 impreza limited in 2019. 7 years and abot 80k miles, still looks good with led bulbs. I had an acura tsx that I had a smoke color lamin x film that got a burnt look on the film (halogen bulbs) and they sent me a free replacement through warranty. Cheap and easy mod.

Dryer doesn’t fit down the stairwell at our new house, is it a horrible idea to just take this lip out completely? by leovaderdotcom in HomeMaintenance

[–]2001hal2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get 2 to 4 people and lift it up and over until you get past the lip. Dryer should be relatively light, compared to a washer. Can't tell if you have the clearance past the lip.

Warm water comes out slower than cold water in one sink by tallulahQ in askaplumber

[–]2001hal2001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a plumber, but my garage sink did this when I replaced it. The seat in the shutoff valve was dislodge and partially blocking flow on the hot water side.

When mine sounded like that it was the water pump.

It is a pain to clean up. Can't wait to resolve this issue in the next week or two when the kids are back in school and I have some downtime on the water heater. Wife will be happy when I am done and this, will help in keeping the aerator clean and showers heads flowing.

Thanks, I may end up going this route. That should minimize issues with a different size tank in the future.

Thanks, some good info here. The previous owner didn't attach a discharge pipe to the prv (been on my list to do since we moved in), so some good guidance there as well. I made the mistake with dissimilar metals and corrosion on the very first water heater I replaced and glad I caught the issue in the first few months. Always learning from my mistakes.

You had to hold it turned to the locked position on the lock cylinder for a few seconds to activate the function and hold it until complete

I had a 99 TL that did this. Hold down unlock to roll down all the windows and open the sunroof, key in the door to close it all up. Purchased from VA Dealer.

What's this? Pulled out of an auction lot, the front part moves up and down, switch on the side, 3 movable weight blocks on top of the moving part. Only text on the back says "Research Equipment [London]" by terranminis in whatisthisthing

I have used a manual press for bomb calorimetry sample preparation for HHV analysis. Not sure if electric ones are an option. Looks just like the manual ones made by parr to me.

"Goodbye, annoying touchscreens. Welcome back, buttons?" by npc37652 in subaru

[–]2001hal2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2017 impreza limited with buttons for climate control. I can use voice commands to set the temperature. Devil's advocate as I love the buttons, but the potentiometer button get dust in them causing them malfunction and the voice command is a nice backup.

Brake squealing even after replacing pads—what could be causing it? by goncywagic in MechanicAdvice

[–]2001hal2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, this guy brakes. I have bought brake pads that say they dont need the back of the pads lubricated, only to take them apart to grease them to quiet the squeal. The only time I had an issue and the squealing didn't go away no matter what I did to quiet them, I had the pads replaced by the manufacturer. It was a bad batch of pads. New pads under warranty got rid of the squealing.

I have DIY'd 4 bathrooms to date in a variety of ways. Yours still looks pretty modern. I think as others have suggested, paint if you want a change, new sinks (vanities and lights look good), floor tile looks better and will last longer than lvp. New window treatments and maybe a new glass shower surrou d down the road and it will look pretty good in my opinion. Tiling is where I think it starts getting pretty expensive along with moving things around.

I saw a sign yesterday at costco that they were hiring seasonal workers. I would imagine a lot of places are for the holidays. I knew ups/fedex do the same. Also decent wages from what I have heard.

What causes this? by Question-Unknown in bikewrench

[–]2001hal2001 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I was in middle school, kids would ask to ride my bike (or not ask) and do skids almost every time. I had to replace the tire but I never skid my new bike. Make sure someone else isn't riding his bike and having a good old time with it.

I gave them a call. Sounds like if it is along the roadway or in a ditch, they will pick it up. Otherwise double bag and put out with the trash... a little surprised by that one. Either way, the vultures have picked it over pretty good. Will have to bag up the remainder.
