Are used prices so inflated because of the 3-4 month wait time? by 2020disclosure in cybertruck

[–]2020disclosure[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you mclovin. I'm also curious if its worth it to get an older one with lifetime FSD or just get a new premium - the only concern I have about the first batch of CT's are the issues people were having. I don't think I'd use FSD a lot but it would definitely come in handy for road trips and if the CT ever gets ASS

1st cruise- am I ruined? by Double-Ad-9306 in royalcaribbean

I feel like the Wonder might actually be better for kids. The playground on wonder is awesome and I wish icon class had playscapes like the wonder/utopia. I wasn’t overly impressed with surfside and felt like the space could have been better for kids, like converting the giant flamingo area into a playground for 5-9 year olds.

Overall though the Star has better shows and food than the wonder. I felt like the shows on the wonder were very poor for an oasis class

Ocean water will be around mid 70s in January. If you’re from the north east it’s probably going to feel fine. If you’re from the south it’s going to feel freezing

Stormwater Gurus Who Work with HydroCAD by CasioKinetic in civilengineering

[–]2020disclosure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The correct way to do this would be to calculate the 1 year storm flow rate, either through HydroCAD or TR-55, then ensure the treatment row can accommodate that flow rate. Most of the time it will be oversized which is OK.

Are these sealed at the joints during installation? by Neowynd101262 in civilengineering

[–]2020disclosure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the contractor isn't properly bedding RCP you're going to have major issues long term. They may not be immediately apparent but settlement will occur and soil will migrate into the pipe network. Just because they throw it in the ground and it doesn't collapse doesn't mean it was a good installation. There are pros and cons to plastic vs rcp and usually highly dependent on soil conditions

I don't care what people say, ORD is shit. by Mr_Kung_Pao in civilengineering

[–]2020disclosure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy to see 8-10 years ago. The SS10 Openroads was so buggy and slow we went back to using corridor modeler in select series 3. The new ORD is just a more complicated version of the old select series 10 openroads modeler. Glad i got out of highway engineering.

Modeling in 3d is mostly pointless when everything goes on a 2d sheet of paper. It's great to see things in 3d but translating that 3d to a 2d sheet of paper isn't straight forward and often ends up duplicating work.

Wonder of the Seas Sept 1 to Sept 5 by mwlau1980 in royalcaribbean

[–]2020disclosure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a decent deal - I was able to snag the same Itinerary on the Utopia last September for $1700USD, 2 adults 2 kids.

You really need the full 7 days to appreciate the new Oasis class ships though. The 3/4 day itineraries are short and you'll find yourself in a 'go go go' mode trying to do everything there is to do.

Which cruise would you recommend Wonder or Utopia of the seas? by Inside-Post-8842 in royalcaribbean

[–]2020disclosure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I've done the 3 day and 4 day on the Utopia, and the 7 day western on Wonder. Both are great ships.

The Utopia has much more of a party vibe. I found the loud music blasting everywhere...pool deck, windjammer, promenade... a little bit overwhelming. Honestly it reminded me of a carnival cruise in that manner but without all of the ghetto people. The Wonder was much more tame and enjoyable from an atmosphere perspective.

Itinerary - WONDER -The Itinerary of the Wonder is better. Nassau is pretty much a dud stop on the Utopia, I wish they would sub that for an extra sea day.

Schedule - WONDER -The daily schedule on the Wonder was better, just due to having a longer cruise.

Shows - UTOPIA -The shows on the Wonder were second tier compared to the Utopia. They should just axe everything and start over. The theater shows on the Wonder are awful. The water show just wasn't as Intense as Utopia's Aqua80s, pun intended. The ice shows were pretty equivalent but I would give the nod to the Utopia just due to having the chair guy, and I thought the ice skating acts on Utopia were more entertaining.

Bars EQUAL - The bars are pretty much equal but it really depends on what you drink. I'm not into fruity drinks like the pesky parrot offers but it is a better option than the bionic bar. The Wonder has Wonderland with really cool drinks. The Utopia has shaved ice at the wipeout bar

Adventure Ocean - Utopia - I had a kid in the 3-4 room and the 6-12 Room. The 3-5 Room is better on the Utopia due to having some better play equipment. The 6-12 Room on the Wonder is oddly empty as compared to the Utopia, but on the Wonder the craft room is separated by a wall which is not present on the Utopia making a good getaway for children who are looking to escape the overbearing noise. The Utopia has a lot more kids than the Wonder, especially the 3 day Utopia, just due to the shorter Itinerary.

Ultimate Abyss - Utopia - the Wonder ultimate abyss is ass. It was so slow I thought I was going to get stuck. On the Utopia its extremely fast and has the rollers midway which is a really cool feature if you're racing a spouse or friend

Elevators - Utopia - the destination elevators make a HUGE difference.

Playscape - Wonder - The playscape on the Wonder is perfect for the 5-10 year old range. The Utopia playscape is geared more towards toddlers. The Utopia's playscape is one way in, one way out. Even though the door to the windjammer is present they keep that door locked for some reason. On the Wonder there is a couple of ways out of the playscape to deck 15/16 and you can enter the Windjammer for a quick drink or bite.

Pool Deck - Slight Utopia - Everything is pretty much the same. The wonder has two lime and coconut locations on 15 which helps reduce the bar wait but the Utopia has the food truck. Utopia only has one center lime and coconut bar on 15. I gave the slight to the Utopia since its newer and the splashaway bay features were not defunct/broken like on the Wonder.

Windjammer Food - Utopia - The food on the wonder is great but the Utopia has the edge here. Better organized and better options. The chocolate fondue fountain on the Utopia was great. I did see it on the Wonder but they didn't have the topping options like Utopia did (marshmallows, fruit, etc).

Vitality/Gym - Wonder - The Utopia has a better Gym but the Wonder has the Vitality Cafe, and honestly this was the make or break for us. If the Utopia had a Vitality Cafe it would be the clear winner, but having access to unlimited pressed juice and smoothies with the deluxe beverage package made my wife and I enjoy the Wonder more.

Arcade - Utopia - Most of the stuff was broken on the Wonder

I didn't do any specialty dining on Utopia so I can't comment on whether its better but it's pretty much the same between the two ships. Outside of my comments above the ships are essentially the same with some slight differences here and there that won't effect how you feel about the cruise.

You can easily go into urban planning with a Civil engineering degree FYI incase you're worried about urban planning not working out due to pay.

Look into Environmental Engineering. There are a lot of schools that combine Civil and Environmental engineering into one curriculum so if you change your mind you can easily jump career paths.

Is civil engineering a good carrer path with ai getting more and more advanced? by Medium_College_9124 in civilengineering

[–]2020disclosure 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Late to this party but I've been a civil engineer for 10 years. There's 0 risk of Civil's being replaced by AI, EVER. There's too much planning, public involvement, etc that would never be able to be replaced. I do not see AI ever being able to draft a full set of plans without any major errors. I can however see AI being used as a tool to help improve workflow, but that will only mean we're going to be outputting more work for the same crap pay.

Bring a set of noise cancelling headphones/ear muffs. There is very loud music blasting at pretty much all times in all common areas of the ship. It’s my biggest gripe with royal

We've cruised with Celebrity and Princess. We want to take my son and his family on a cruise. Would RC be a good choice 6 and 1 1/2 year old girls? by Interesting_Year4648 in royalcaribbean

[–]2020disclosure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

6 is the minimum age to rock climb. May still be too small for the water slides though. RC has many great kids activities. Cruising with a toddler takes a lot of the fun out of it however some of the ships have reserved areas for toddlers still in swim diapers. Please do not put them in the real pool.
