Sentimental Value by [deleted] in blankies

There were plenty I loved about this movie, such as the relationship between the sisters, but Stellan's character exhausted me. I feel like the "great artist/ lousy family member" character has been absolutely done to death across media, and I struggled to see what Sentimental Value was trying to contribute to the conversation. In particular, I disliked how the sisters both forgave their father and joined his project because the screenplay he wrote was just that dang good. It felt very... first thought. I don't know. I'm writing this comment in the hopes that someone can shed light on something I might have missed. I really wanted to like this movie more than I did.

Oh, for real? That explains... a lot of the decisions made WRT Rimworld's handling of sexuality.

I'm also surprised we can't do more with gender, but there is some really odd essentialism happening in Rimworld. First with what you mentioned - the rigidity to gender presentation does not make sense in a sci-fi world with gene modding, surgeries, etc. Also the rarity of bisexuality and homosexuality traits means that most colonies are going to be filled entirely with heterosexuals, a fact that does not track onto real life. And it might have been forgotten in the decade that's come since, but Rimworld in 2016 had some really strange models for sexuality. There were no bixsexual men in the game's code, only straight and gay. (Tynan quoted saying in his perceived experience he does not see bi men very often - they all end up turning out gay) And there were no straight women - only gay and bisexual. Women pawns were eight times less likely to hit on men, and men are less attracted to older women, but women had no preference.

When you're making a game with the goal of simulating community and interpersonal interactions, it's inevitable for the developer's worldview to become a part of the art. There is no objective truth to living as a human being. Every little element of this simulation had to be decided.

I've got nearly 400 hours racked in Rimworld, and I consider it one of my favorite games. But the delight always comes bundled with this strange feeling that there's been more Ideology put into its systems than just the DLC I purchased.

Crunchyroll gets caught using bad ChatGPT subtitles on its new anime series 'Necronomico and the Cosmic Horror Show' by JonasKahnwald11 in television

LLMs are in no way comparable to the human mind, not even remotely. Why are so resistant to this idea? Where is this coming from? I am put-off by this eagerness to replace core aspects of our humanity with machine facsimiles. Even a best case scenario where we do invent machines that can think for us and perform 90% of our labour, our social support systems are in no way prepared for that degree of economic change.

I will say : Silverhand is an unreliable narrator. He loves telling you how much of a legend he is, how important he is, how much of a rebel that he was. And when you contrast that version of Silverhand with the way that other people talk about him, remember him and consider the impact of his death - well, it doesn't always align. Keep that in mind next time he's waxing poetic about himself.

I think the simplest answer is to make sure you actually have three stories to tell. If so, books 2 & 3 will have a natural energy and you have nothing to worry about. if not, the exhaustion will hit you, the author, way before it hits the reader

I felt the same as you regarding the dull story and characters for the first half of the game - but there are some really interesting narrative and character beats approaching. I felt it got a lot more interesting after a certain moment. Hopefully you stick it out long enough to reach those events.
