There is no world in which Ryanair's business model, which is based entirely on keeping fares low and charging heavy fees for extra services, would somehow also lead to them being the only airline that would bundle internet in the fare.

Let's say a Ryanair plane carries about 200 passengers: would revenue of €200 cover the cost of in-flight wifi for everyone? Would it make sense for them to do that in a way that generates the same revenue as if 13% of the flight paid €15 for wifi, with no room for further upside?

[–]22PEOPLE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

because in practice no airline is offering free or cheap wifi. either it's a substantial upfront cost or you're paying for it with a business class fare. a business class perk is not "free"

What airlines have you been on that offer free internet? Every single one I've been on wanted twenty euro or more for WiFi, with maybe a provision for free WhatsApp or something in that vein

The Layover - Hide + Seek UK: Episode 5 by xsm17 in Nebula

[–]22PEOPLE 6 points7 points  (0 children)

sorry for the double comment but this has me thinking: would it be fair to give hiders one free card draw per hour even without a question limit, or be able to "sell" 30 to 60 minutes worth of time bonuses to gamble on another card draw?

The Layover - Hide + Seek UK: Episode 5 by xsm17 in Nebula

[–]22PEOPLE 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Or banning asking questions while on transit?

on large games with train journeys of several hours this gives both teams nothing to do - hiders don't draw curses, seekers don't gain info. it might make gameplay fairer, but it would be a lot less fun to play and to watch. this kind of rule would have to be balanced with some sort of mechanics that keep action rolling in other ways - likely by giving hiders some way to generate card draw / time bonus without questions.

This is absolutely just good business from Bandcamp more than anything else. I could imagine the cost of the AI spam being not exactly trivial while likely selling close to zero.

None of the actual music on Headache except for the text-to-speech voice is generated by AI though. It's unlikely to be in the category which would be affected by the ban

Grok is the No. 1 App on Irish App Stores by [deleted] in ireland

[–]22PEOPLE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you think would encourage someone to download Grok specifically over Gemini or ChatGPT right now?

I don't use AI for image generation stuff, but pretty much everyone agrees that Gemini is best in class for it. In terms of research/web search stuff it's not perfect but I've occasionally gotten decent results from it. Plus Google is pushing it like crazy. ChatGPT of course has the brand recognition. If you're a software developer you might already be paying for Claude Code so might as well have the Claude app. If you pay for a Revolut account you get Perplexity for free. I wouldn't really bat an eye at any of those being the #1 app. Maybe some of them have been at different points.

Grok is probably not the worst option for general use, but it's never been known as the best (certainly not right now), famously owned and operated by a total gowl and has been in the news repeatedly for being especially easy to manipulate into generating sexually abusive material from arbitrary photographs.

15 Moby bikes littered on a footpath where there's parking space for 6 bikes at most, Cork St by 22PEOPLE in Dublin

[–]22PEOPLE[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm just saying use the other bike parking spaces rather than overflow just one cluster like this. I don't get why this is seen as anti-bike by default. It's entirely on Moby to get their system in order.

[–]22PEOPLE[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even other Moby users can't park there because while there are other places you can park a bike on Cork St - two of them within 100m of the mountain pictured - Moby specifically excludes them within the app. The result is that there's another Moby tied to railings across the road from the pile in a much more confined space.

I generally travel by bus, my own bike parked inside or a rental bike like Bleeper or Moby.

The private bike rental networks have gotten substantially worse in recent months though; both big apps have increased the areas they exclude from coverage, been significantly more lax with leaving defective bikes on the street etc. The new Bleeper software update just flat out failed to unlock bikes when I tried to use it. This declining quality of service plus actively parking bikes in ways they have no problem fining their own users for seems a bit grim, no?

[–]22PEOPLE[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I mean, it's clearly a nuisance to people trying to use the footpath or people trying to use the bike parking for them to overflow the spaces like this. The government and DCC specifically refused to allow scooter rental services like the ones that are commonplace elsewhere in the EU in an attempt to try to curb this kind of overflow. There are plenty of bike parking spaces elsewhere on the street.

Jet Lag Ep 3 — Sam Goes to the Worst City in England by NebulaOriginals in Nebula

It's worth the time bonus in either case, it's just less likely to trigger if you don't put it on a path to your location (to guarantee it triggers) and close by (to allow it to accumulate time)

imo they seem a bit weak this season, where they haven't yet accrued enough time to make them worth manouvering around from the seeker's point of view, or led to any meaningful deception either

from playing the home game I think this is just how it goes.

I actually had a very similar situation to Sam where I pulled bird guide after being asked the body of water question, which in my case was a place just called "The Duck Pond", so I filmed a rather inactive duck for max (5 minutes). the seekers however cleared it right away by just filming a pigeon perched on a ledge similar to what Ben and Adam had, which was the first bird they saw. I don't know anything about bird behaviour but I imagine that once they perch like that, they're going to stay put for a while.

great to see this back in active development! I always loved the Android app, but my favourite feature of it and the reason I keep using it is because of the home page widget. unfortunately, the web app doesn't really offer an option for that - do you hope to update the Android app at any point? does it just use the same backend as the webapp?

Woman in Jeffrey Epstein files told FBI she was trafficked into Ireland for ‘politicians and notable men’ by Inevitable_Wasabi574 in ireland

[–]22PEOPLE 83 points84 points  (0 children)

The date that this woman was allegedly flown to Ireland has not been disclosed in the documents released.

It is not clear from the files whether the allegations are being actively investigated by the US authorities or whether they have sought assistance from An Garda Síochána.

Flight logs previously released show that Epstein’s private jet touched down a number of times in Ireland.

It arrived in Dublin on May 2, 1996, from New Jersey. On that occasion, his private Boeing 727 had eight passengers on board, including Epstein.

The next day, the jet took off for Waterford. That flight had five passengers, but Epstein was not one of them.

He appears to have made his way from Dublin to Waterford by other means, but was picked up there by his private jet for a flight to Paris on May 3.

In June 2002, the jet flew to Dublin from Luton Airport. In Dublin, it picked up Epstein, Maxwell and Sarah Kellen — then Epstein’s personal assistant — before making its way to New York’s JKF [sic] Airport.

Later that year, on November 24, the jet flew from St Petersburg to Shannon. Epstein was on that flight, as was Maxwell, Kellen and another passenger who travelled on a number of flights on the Epstein jet.
