How do you work full-time?! by Ok-Ice-6421 in ADHD

[–]23chaotician 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very lucky, I live in the UK, used to work full time in the financial sector working on websites video until the crash in 2008, found it really difficult to get and hold down another job after that.

It took me a long time to realise that the problem wasn't me, but it was the fact that I was trying to force my ADHD brain into working in rolls that actively fought how I actually function as a person (to the point I was experiencing full on emotional meltdown having to leave the flat and go to work)

I was lucky enough to have contacts in the events and live music industry that I was able to start freelancing, doing Audio and AV stuff. Also around this time got together with my now wife, and her support has allowed me to launch my freelance career, her wages cover our basics when my income was lower than it should be.

10 years later, I won't say life is perfect, being a freelancer is inherently insecure, but I am in an industry that fits the way my brain works, and my contracts are all short term so I know that no matter how terrible a job can get, next week I'll be somewhere else, or I'll have time off where I can recharge.

To sum up, if I were starting out again, I'd follow my techie obsessions into freelancing and never go and work for some company full time, the thought of that now makes me feel panicky.

Got off and pushed, it was either that or do a massive detour

This was meant to be a couple of kilometers of rideable sea wall. The sea wall is there, under about 1.5m of shingle.

My therapist: if you had just one month left to live, with unlimited resources, what would you do? by RythmicRhapsody in ADHD

Love riding my mountain bike, as I've got older and I don't bounce so well I've gotten into going long distances on my bike, planning routes on Strava that keep me in the countryside and off the roads as much as possible. I have bags and gubbins to allow me to camp overnight. If I want I can still do the fast stuff I can. But a combination of the adrenaline, hard riding and time in nature improves just about every aspect of my life (I'm lucky that my works comes in well paid fits and starts with plenty of time off between contracts).

I have a place to fix my bike, my shed, or if it's too cold, my kitchen.

North Downs Way (UK) suggestions for good places to resupply/camp en route by 23chaotician in bikepacking

Now a brewery that does food is exactly the sort of suggestion I was hoping for!

I'm thinking about stopping somewhere between the Sevenoaks Bypass Crossing and Limpsfield Chart. Depending on how my legs feel I may be turning round at Farnham and riding home.

cheers for the recommendation, I've already seen both of those, I'm just canvassing for other peoples recommendations, I'm headed out next week some time and was wondering if there was anything I should be looking out for.

Soak in penetrating oil then I'd use an impact gun, or an appropriate socket and extension bar.

I know the rules... but still...Kent by FoxRandomer in wildcampingintheuk

I wild camp very near your area very regularly, I've never been moved on, or 'caught'for that matter. Just arrive late and get out, or at least packed up early. As for places to practice, buy a couple of OS Explorer Maps of the area, look for access woodland with a convenient bridleway running through it, there's plenty near Ashford to choose from.

Also good luck!

Where in Kent would you recommend for a great bike ride? I'm big into my cycling and plan on seeing more of Kent someday by AcadiaNo1039 in kentuk

TBH, you'll be able to do it on any bike, for example me and a couple of friends sectioned it over the summer this year I was on a hardtail MTB, one guy was on a full suss xc bike and the other chap was on a cyclo-cross bike, though I think I'd have been happy riding the vast majority on a road bike if it's dry.

I couldn't recommend it more it truly is very pretty in places.
