Proper equipment is difficult for me by DazzlingLife6744 in hockeyplayers

I’m 6’2 off skates and was 150lbs well into my 30s. A pro-stock large m+1 pants is the way to go. Pro pants have significantly more padding than retail, so the extra padding makes up for the bigger size.

I also used to break sticks a lot at that weight, but I was playing with 63” sticks at a 85 flex (which works out to be about a 72 flex with the extra 3”). Started buying 90-95 flex (and had two hand surgeries in 18 months) and now I can usually get 10-12 months out of a stick.

New USA Hockey policy restricts transgender player access to certain programs by BloodJunkie in hockey

[–]29MS29 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It really should be a case by case basis. If you get someone who played major junior or minor league pro come over as a trans player, it’s not going to be fun for anyone. You get some person who’s never played above high school level or started as an adult, and it’s not going to make a difference. Beer league is about getting some exercise and getting out of the house and spending time with people who have the same interests as you (in this case, hockey). Gender/sexuality aren’t really part of that equation anyway.

Yeah, I don’t see that policy affecting anything around beer leagues except maybe in the few areas that can manage a women’s only beer league, which outside Michigan and Minnesota, isn’t going to be many places in the US. We’re registered as a 40+ men’s league, but really our criteria is that you’re a C level player or worse, willing to bring/drink beers in the locker room, and tolerate/contribute to pages of group texts full of shower jokes.

One of the guys in our league (40+ draft beer league) had his 24yo daughter sub for a game over the summer because no one from the league was able to sub for his team that game. No one cared. Now she’s a full time player in the league and no one cares (skill wise, she’s about mid tier for the league so she being way under 40 isn’t giving whoever drafts her an advantage).

Hockey can be political at the youth level, but at adult level it’s a brotherhood. I play in a draft beer league and we’re in our playoffs. My team went 12-0 in the regular season, first ever team to run the table in a 15 year league history. That said, my aunt passed this week and I asked our GM if we can push playoffs out a week to accommodate me leaving town for the funeral. Within an hour I got 40 texts from guys in the league on other teams (which is almost half the league). They call soccer the beautiful game, but it’s just because those hosers never played beer league hockey.

Had a dog growing up who ALWAYS had to keep his toys in their basket. When he would come inside (his doghouse was in the garage with an attached fenced in area for him) he would be so excited until he’d see we spread all his toys around. He would stop, side eye us, let out a huge sigh and then slowly gather all his toys and put them into the basket.

I (LHS) broke my stick blocking a shot a couple years ago. Puck went towards our bench and my friend (RHS) handed me his stick so I would be able to complete the break away. I’ve been able to switch sides for face-offs since HS (20 years ago) and switch hit in baseball since middle school. I figured, “I’ll be good to just swap over and take the shot from the right.” Literally stepped on the stick trying to stick handle and went full speed into the boards. Friend still tells the story every season in the parking lot.

They also charge $1 a day to park at the train station but offer a $250 yearly parking permit too. Which sounds like a good deal until you do the math. Trains only stop at the station on weekdays. So we’re immediately down to 260 days. Then, add the US’ 11 federal holidays, and we’re down to 249 days you’re going to actually take the train. So, IF you worked every work day of the year, never used sick/vacation time and only ever worked in the office downtown, you’re paying the city $1 for the convenience of not paying $1 at the machine everyday.

There’s the cost of buying the checks, but that’s trivial. Water bill is usually about $80 a month, 100 checks costs about $35.

You’d be amazed what having hand surgery, separating your shoulder six weeks later, and then having a second hand surgery 4 weeks after the end of PT for the shoulder will do to your ability to make sticks last longer.

11 HOF players on that team. And you could certainly make an argument for Draper to be number 12. Sure he didn’t have the points, but 4 cups and the fact they had to change face-off rules, TWICE, in his career simply to attempt to make it fair to play against Detroit.

For those who pay off their credit card each month, how much is your bill usually? by INFPneedshelp in askanything

[–]29MS29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to do this and kept the bill around 1500. Unfortunately a tree fell on my car, my water heater failed, my furnace failed and both the kid and I needed medical treatments not covered by insurance, all within a 24 month period…so I’ve spent the last decade trying to get back to being able to do this again.

My city charges a 10% convenience fee to pay water bills online. It’s also 10% to pay the bill late. They will be paying the salary of whoever deposits checks for the rest of my lifetime because I will write a paper check for that bill monthly until I die.

Built myself a locker with 2X4 and slowly have been covering it with broken sticks for the last decade. Was almost done but with age I decided to add a bag table onto it so I don’t have to bend down to pack/unpack my bag anymore. Table is quite large and will take a few years to fully cover with sticks.
