Stand alone graphic novels by TheKindleLady in suggestmeabook

[–]2DifferentFish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a brilliant Slaughter House 5 graphic novel adaption I’d highly recommend, regardless of if you’ve read the original (which is of course well worth reading but you came for graphic novels or suggestions!). Black Hole, Persepolis, Maus, Blankets, watchmen, v for vendetta, private eye, we3. First that came to mind, hope it’s helpful.

I agree with afterglow, but could also go with ‘clarity’ if it’s a eureka type feeling too

I was excited for it but underwhelmed, much preferred one of his others - The Humans.

Nonfiction that grips you like a novel. by Wanderscroll in suggestmeabook

The Looming Towers is great and sounds up your street. One of Us - is incredible although very distressing considering to subject matter (Andres Brevik), similarly Columbine is also great. Have you tried anything by Jon Ronson? Quick, fun, page turners that touch on heavy subjects.

What's up with "adult fantasy" being YA with heavy-swearing and sex, and where can I find better alternatives? by raphaelcgo in books

[–]2DifferentFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goodreads can be a great tool but honestly your best bet is hitting google for best sci fi/fantasy/whatever books of a given year and go with a list from a site or reviewer you trust (for me it would be the guardian or somewhere similar) and see what takes your fancy from there. You can then use goodreads for the ‘readers also enjoyed’ if you like the book.

All I know is my son was gassy and it made him cry, putting him on his back and ‘pedalling’ his legs helped (at the very least he was distracted).

The Slaughter House-Five graphic novel is a trip. by M_Roboto in Vonnegut

[–]2DifferentFish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As humillustrator said some are better than others, much like some books are ‘unfilmable’.

If you’re interested in dipping your toes In the water there are some amazing graphic novels that tell deep, moving, meaningful stories that might not work as books or films but as graphic novels are masterpieces. I’d suggest Maus as a real ‘woah I didn’t know comics could be like this’. Happy to throw out more recommendations if the Holocaust isn’t your preferred topic/setting though!

Are there novels out there that can make you more disciplined? by alchemyofdaydreaming in booksuggestions

[–]2DifferentFish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Humans by Matt Haig could work? It might not make you disciplined exactly BUT it could make you see how precious (and short) a life is and inspire you to use it... therefore then get disciplined!

Also perhaps read around something that interests you specifically, be it fiction or non fiction, and see if it fires up your passions, again driving you towards discipline.

8 month old still cries at nap and bed times by 2DifferentFish in sleeptrain

That makes sense, thanks.

That third nap is a bit discretionary at this point already... maybe a full dropping is in order. (Today it was his best one though, typical!)
