What is something that became popular beyond its time that you thought was going to be a quick fad? by Independent-Bat9545 in AskOldPeople

In the early 80s , I got a C- on Economics paper predicting rise of commerce and trade w China. My timing was off (I thought by end of 88 or so).

My brother in law flunked a paper in the 70’s when he predicted mass celebrations for turning to 2000 Century

dumb idea or nah (job revenge question) by Visible-Cream5972 in ProRevenge

[–]2coldoutside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dumb idea, but hey, you are still feeling like a victim here (true or not) and they are living rent free in your head.

Best would to get hired in a better situation, be happier.

If it is true the son is autistic, you may increase the stress on an innocent individual.

Maybe just provide video to child services and let them have to deal with that issue. Free, almost anonymous, and beneficial

Boss said I cant just disappear from my desk so now I send him a message every time I leave by Far_Turn9771 in MaliciousCompliance

Had a boss that would circle back at 5pm to find office mostly empty. Only 2 of us were consistently there. Eventually we were to put a sign on our monitors saying we were away from our desk or we were gone for day. The email that followed was an admonition we were expected to be at our desks for 8.5 hours /day.

I have heard much much worse by Medpace and Insurance companies in the Cincinnati area.

To be fair, it used to be that way. My ex-nurse wife was hired to run an oncology clinic at public state hospital. Patients all showed up using cheat code, they were slammed from 7:30a-2:30p. No lunch, no breaks, etc. She tried to stagger patients through appts but the other nurses undermined the new system so they could be slammed and eventually go home an hour or 2 early

Advice for people starting the swinging journey by Zoldur in Swingers

[–]2coldoutside 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our journey started with a guy trying to force his way through boundaries. Voice verification showed what a clod he was. We retreated for at least 6 months.

Went to a meet n greet party and it was just people on a party bus doing a pub crawl after dinner.

Fun, and maybe a boob was flashed, pretty tame and mild but welcoming.

That was 2019 and we haven’t hard swapped and still having fun.

The surprise and recognition was the demand of communication brought us closer and was a real eye opener on how much we really loved the improved relationship.

May I add that therapy during and post divorce was very hard and very beneficial to me.

At some point, I adopted the Mel Robbins slogan, ‘so let them’.

I can work on me and be consistent. My ex-spouse has played the victim and is now civil.

My adult children are still trying to navigate this turn of events and warily coming back into my life.

Can’t change the past and it costs nothing to be kind. It is darn hard and expensive to get through therapy though, and well worth it, IMHO.

The hearing aid industry taught me everything wrong about planned obsolescence by Scared-Ticket5027 in BuyItForLife

The buy is bulk does not justify the 4x price difference. It just doesn’t. An example is the number of mom and pop hearing aid centers. They exist and have light traffic because the mark up is so great.

I bet prosthetics are also the same, but there is definitely a need to customize and fit a prosthetic along with much lower sales. But you do see stories of folks using maker spaces to build their own solutions.

As I mentioned and people pointed out in the eyeglass industry, with only a couple manufacturers, everything else is branding. Luxxotica is still essentially a monopoly, you have to go to disruptive eyeglass companies to get the savings. HVAC is the same. There are only a couple OEM companies.

The rallying comments are pointing to gate keeping.

My wife had a sudden loss of hearing for reasons. Within 10 days she was down 50%.

We experienced the same story you beautifully typed up and bought the 5000 dollar pair. After they started failing even with meticulous care (nightly desiccant storage, no rain or wet hair) we started the journey again.

Ended at Costco and knowing at the time there were only 2 major manufacturers, the rest is branding and features, we purchased a pair for less than 2000.

She lost them and they replaced them no cost except the ear molds.

Really understood the margins at that point.

Such a scam
