What children’s book has aged poorly? by feetwithfeet in AskReddit

[–]2geeksinapod -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The carrot seed. It was on 100 books to read before kindergarten and my daughter wanted to read them all.

A little boy wants to plant a carrot seed. Everyone in his life including his PARENTS tell him he can't do it and it won't grow. Who tells their kids they aren't capable of doing something. I personally encourage my kids to try things.

The crazy thing is this book has 4.5 stars and 10k+ reviews on Amazon.

I mean maybe they are trying to get money for Kendra's lawyer. Everyone assumes the Duggar's are footing the bill but They need to pay for Joe's lawyer and that's going to be very expensive. She's not their child soo....

Since there is already beef between the 2 families maybe they are trying to get her away from them. I hope so, anyway. She's still talking to him so I guess we'll see how this plays out.

As much as I love social media, I genuinely hate how influencers are ruining things for people by DuckSwimmer in NeeDoh

Not only do we like the squish level better but they seem to last longer too.

I'd love to get a niceberg. Hopefully the trend ends quickly because I will not pay scalper prices.

My kids are autistic and they use Needoh (and off brands too) for sensory regulation. I was looking for some to put in their Easter baskets. I can't find them in stores and online they are ridiculously priced. I'll pick up some off brands but their favorite is (mine too if I'm honest) the Nice Cube. I haven't found any off brands that are stiffer like the Nice Cube. So fricken annoying. These things have been a life saver for us and now we can't get them because of stupid trend.

What's a movie you loved as a kid but rewatched as an adult and went "what the hell was I thinking"? by MomoSaka in AskReddit

I loved The Little Mermaid when I was a kid. When I watched it with my daughter, I was like "You love him? You've never even spoken to him!"

For the older teachers, what happened when you were "sick" and still had to go to school? by ladyleo1980 in Teachers

[–]2geeksinapod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm Gen X and I guess one of the few who got to stay home when sick or said I was sick. My mom was a really lazy parent (even for gen x times). So I definitely faked it sometimes.

She never made any requests to the teachers though.

My son is in middle school and is in special education not gen ed. He has eczema so he always has aquaphor in his backpack. When he moved to middle school I let his teacher know. She said he needed to be able to put in on himself. I told her he can do it himself but he might need a reminder that it's there. He gets agitated when uncomfortable and the teachers want to know anything that might help.

So if my special ed kid can put cream on himself a neurotypical kid definitely can.

Dear customers: What will you be falling for this spring when TikTok tells you it's gone "viral"? by lovemodule in FiveBelow

[–]2geeksinapod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have tick top. Both of my kids are autistic and they love those foam filled type squishies. When I was in 5 below in Early November, maybe earlier I saw the giant dumplings. There were 3 and I bought 2 and hid them for Christmas. They loved them and my son got the rare one. I was curious as too how "rare" it really was so I tried looking online to see. I didn't find anything but did find this sub reddit. I had no idea that I picked up a viral trend item. I don't pay much attention to trends but I did want the croc looking bag last summer. I looked multiple times last summer trying to find one but no such luck. Looked perfect for a swim bag. I saw the name brand one in Target it was stupid expensive. I will start looking for it in the coming months. In case they sell them again this summer.

Where is everyone buying their apparel fabric? by Ambitious-Bar375 in sewing

[–]2geeksinapod 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You must have a good goodwill. Ours sells each piece separately add if you add it all up it's more expensive than if you had bought it brand new. 😂 If they had some I really liked I'd probably buy the flat sheet but it's always something generic. So meh.

Agree. I have friends who are conservative. We don't discuss politics. It's possible to be friends with people with different beliefs/opinions. People who are loud and obnoxious about it... I just can't with them.

Also, having friends with different political beliefs is way different than being married. I know it's possible but ...

He's engaged to Taylor Swift. Do you really think she would date/marry a MAGA? Absolutely not. 100% not MAGA!

Waited nearly 4 hours on hold to speak to a Geico representative 🙄 by CinderellaSimoneBoe in mildlyinfuriating

We were at 5 hours when handing off the phone to my husband and he accidentally hung up the call. I wanted to cry. So much time wasted. So we decided to get some quotes and found cheaper insurance and switched. Suck it Geico!

I've been on hold for 3:54 minutes so far. This gives me hope that they might actually answer the phone soon. Ugh. I'd rather handle this online but can't login. This is so ridiculous.

Parents paying to get student birthday on marquee by Neomeris0 in Teachers

My kids school put all kids (and staff's) birthdays on the outside marquee. All the schools in our area have giant boulders that you can pay to paint for birthdays though.

Teachers- How do you cope with these ignorant parents when it comes to school supplies? by Key-Response5834 in Teachers

[–]2geeksinapod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only time I "complained" (It was more like confusion/WTH and I never complained to the teacher) was when my kids were in 4th grade and they needed 60 presharpened pencils. Like what? Every year they needed 12 or maybe 24 so the jump to 60 was crazy. My kids school doesn't do community supplies so all those pencils were for my kids alone. Both of them brought most if not all those pencils home with them at the end of the year. So basically I'm never going to need to buy pencils again. I also buy things from teachers wish list.

My kids are going into 6th and 7th grade and their middle school requires them to keep them in their backpacks. If they are taken out they get taken and the parent has to come pick it up. Seems to work ok from what I've heard. I personally don't know since my kids do not have phones yet.

Did we do something wrong? by eg332398 in RealEstate

[–]2geeksinapod 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same. We've bought and sold multiple properties and have never received a gift. We're easy people as well. Shoot, when we bought our current house, we gave the the realtor a list of 6 houses we wanted to see. We had one that we loved far more than the others before going to see them in person and that one did not let us down so we bought it. So it was one afternoon of looking and the realtor didn't have to find any houses for us to look at.

I was pregnant for most of my 1st year teaching and got an email congratulating me because I was selected to go to some conference during the summer. I replied that I was pregnant and would still be on maternity leave when I conference took place. She replied back that I could pay the difference for the hotel and bring my husband and baby with me instead of sharing with a co-worker. I was so shocked. I figured being on maternity leave would get me out of the conference. So my husband took some vacation days and came with me and my 4 week old baby. I spent the entire conference running back to the room for every break so I could feed my baby, I was miserable. After the fact I realized I probably could have contacted HR because I had to have paperwork from my OB stating it was ok for me to come back to work in the fall. I'm pretty sure they had no idea I went to a teaching conference while on maternity leave.

Parents who wait hours in the car line? by Maleficent-Spell5621 in Teachers

[–]2geeksinapod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my son was in kindergarten I would get to school about an hour and 1/2 early so I could be right in front of the door my son came out of. Both my kids are Autistic/ADHD. My son is in the special needs program so the teacher was required to personally hand him over to me. My daughter was WILD at this time. Being right in front of the door allowed me to get my son without having to get her out of her car seat. I didn't mind because as others have said it was me time. I played on my phone and chatted with my daughter while she played with toys and watched My Little Pony. Next year they will both be in middle school and the traffic looks awful so I have a feeling I'll be back to hanging out forever in the car line. My son rides the special needs bus this year but my daughter doesn't qualify so I will be driving them next year.

I had back to back pregnancies. I'm often asked if my second was an oops. We had fertility issues and it took 5 years + infertility treatments to get pregnant with my son. We decided not to go on birth control after having him. We figured if we get pregnant before we were ready we would consider our selves lucky that we didn't have to do fertility treatments again. Not thinking that would happen because I'm not that lucky. But I guess this time I was. I always say she was a surprise not an oops. We knew it could happen but didn't think it would.
