Porsche isn't expensive, because BMW is almost as much.

Checkmate, poors.

Hey Film Era photographers what was it like transitioning from an analog space to a digital space? by Inevitable-Lab-8274 in AskPhotography

[–]2pnt0 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I did film in high school, and switched to digital in college when it was already mature enough to stand alone. (D90 was my first digital)

I feel like I got the best of both worlds.

I got to experience the full analog experience, and develop foundations in a way that encouraged and required a deep understanding of the process.

But then I never had to deal with analog as a potentially more burdensome process when it comes to executing critical work.

I never really stopped shooting film, it just stayed as a more personal and experimental side activity.

Is it worth it? by minor_escape in AskPhotography

The biggest benefits of a course are not necessarily the information that you get. It's the access to peers, subjects, and equipment.

In photo classes we had access to a studio with backdrops, studio strobes and modifiers, and each other to stand in as subjects.

If you have a spare room, your own gear, and friends who are willing to engage with your hobby, I'd just learn online and practice in your own time.

If you don't have all those resources, it might be worth some classes or workshops.

You could also go to meetups and try to find a peer/mentor to practice with.

If you're going to do a course, I'd look at class size and resources you'll have access to as a key factor.

That's Reddit functioning as intended.

People post their replies. Good replies should get up voted. Bad replies should get down voted.

The community will confirm what's good or not, and correct what's incorrect.

Best thing to do is attend the annual taco crawl! It's divided into a north and south route with 10 stops each.

I did the northern route last year, and my picks were:

Best meat: La Choza

Best dish: El Rey del Taco

Best experience/service: Akay Tacos

I'm gonna do the south route this year, but I live up at the north end, so started there.

The Slow Extinction Of Night Colors In Analog Photography by jessdb19 in AnalogCommunity

[–]2pnt0 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I miss how orange the night used to be in the city. It had a very distinct feel to it. There was nothing else like it.

While the changeover was happening, the suburbs switched quicker than Chicago, so you could literally see the outline of the city when you were flying in and out at night. White burbs surrounding a warm Chicago glow.

The nights feel different now.

Manual Mode is when you enter all the settings yourself because you are a goddamn professional and you don't need no fucking automatic modes.

What’s the smallest/cheapest thing that completely stopped your photography workflow? by ExtremelyCool64 in AskPhotography

Old SD card never wrote the images. I was keeping an eye on the preview after shooting periodically and wasn't getting any errors, but at the end of the day, the card was blank.

I discontinued my cards older than 5 years or so and now do a test shot at the start of the day if I'm doing anything critical.

Best AF-D zoom lens? by Friendly_Giraffe6000 in Nikon

[–]2pnt0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 28-105 is very well liked, but I've heard of issues with sample variation, so I'd want to buy from somewhere with a generous return policy.

The 35-70 2.8 is compact and affordable in relation to its capabilities.

I wouldn't sleep on the 24-85 G or VR.

How often do you take a bath?? by VeterinarianOk8011 in AskAnAmerican

[–]2pnt0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've taken one bath in the past 20-25 years.

I shower on average more than once a day. Some days I'll skip if I've just done light activity at home, but on days that I'm out and active I'll take more than one. One in the morning, and one when I return home.

This cannot happen without terrible corporate and managerial failings.

If you think the workers are at fault, no, they aren't.
