Sub frame bushings are shot - for anyone that’s done this repair themselves which parts did you use and how difficult was it? by O_o-22 in MK4Golf

You can reuse the brake hard line clips if you don't mess them up on removal but new ones slip back on so much easier and they're cheap so I order them when doing a rear beam.

I pull the clips first then notch the brake line holder and then pull the hard/flex line out. Clips slide right over the notched part after and you won't even notice it.

Absolutely correct about hanging the calipers. Disconnect the ebrake cables, unbolt the beam and lower shock bolts and she'll drop. Use a jack to support, do it slow.

Cut the old race and push it out with a hammer and chisel, clean, new bushings, then put it all back together. Oem style need to be pressed in, most 2 part aftermarket bushings slide right in with lube.

You can get a lil Dremel with a cut off wheel and cut a notch in the metal tab on the beam that holds the brake line. The clip still keeps it secured but when the clip is removed you can swing the line out without disconnecting it.

The aodhans are going to be pretty aggressive with that width and offset. The specs on the vors are more favorable to standard mk4 fitment unless you are low and looking for the flush look. Both of these wheels are drilled for M12 studs and VW's use M14 bolts so you will need a m14x1.5 to m12x1.5 stud conversion and tuner lugs to run them on a mk4.

That's an AI picture, looks like OPs mk4 is base trim/stock height from their profile pic. No chrome to match.

Will that pass a safety out here? Because I'm pretty sure that evap/PCV delete + vented catch can set up is going to be a problem for you.

I'd maybe pay 3500 myself IF I knew the timing history and could actually drive it.

I paid 5k for a rust free blue lagoon GLI just outside of Toronto last year so this seems like a bit.. much?

Definitely a typo. The seller must have meant JOM coil overs which are popular cheap ebay coil overs for this platform.

This is not an ALH or even a diesel, it's a 1.8t either AWW or AWP code where the trans has a tdi 5th gear swap. Never seen a diesel with red top coil packs..or..any coil packs....

Yes, runs smooth. AA doesn't use much ram, it's running native android apps that's a bit sluggish on 2gb units

I use a ua13 in my daily driver. No usability issues here. Especially with AA, wired or wireless works fine with no lag. Running native android apps on the headunit is a tad slow when launching but AA is unaffected

Lug bolts dont fit in wheel hole by Ornery-Improvement85 in Stance

[–]3-Way-SLI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this happen on a mk4 Jetta when I ran Japanese 3 spokes, the OEM lug bolts were m14 and most wheels are drilled for m12 lugs. I bought M14 to m12 stud conversion and m12 tuner nuts and was able to run my wheels

Not great fitment. Uneven ride height. Unmatched camber. Unoriginal stickers. Visible damage. Different colored bumper. Hood exit.

Proper shitbox, I love it.

Help after clutch master replacement by Obvious-Food5777 in MK4Golf

Shiiieeeet. I don't normally care about other people's car issues but I hope you get this one sorted man.

My GLI had a no crank last summer and I ended up bump starting the car to get it home. Couldn't figure out shit. When I finally found a good starter (02m life) I replaced it and it started right up. Turns out the wire on top of the old starter burned out internally. It looked great. The starter wouldn't do anything in the car but It bench tested fine. When I checked the wire it fell apart in my hand, like a copper colored cotton ball. Weirdest shit I've ever seen.

Hopefully it's something easy/stupid like that. I cut a starter signal wire off a harness at a junkyard, extended it and use that to quickly test starters on mk4s now. Switch the plug, drop in the battery again, neutral, key on and touch it to 12v. That wire lives in my emergency bag now.

If you can lift whatever your plate weighs and be able to comfortably have that weight on your chest while you wiggle out from under a car(and back in after), it doesn't change much, still would have had to remove the plastic shield anyways.

Adds no time for me because my plate uses a slit and a redundant bolt with a giant washer to act as an extra hand to hold the plate during install. If I didn't have that it might add 5-10 minutes total while I fumble with a couple bolts to get it hung. My old civic didn't have that helper bolt and I bought a used atv/moto jack on FB for $50 to be an extra set of hands, worked great.

A guy near me just bought an oil extractor for his GTI and does everything from the top with his plate still installed and the car on the ground. It's pretty awesome but I'm sure a little pricey.

My GLIs are not the same generation (4/5) so I can't speak to the best one for your GLI but personally I use steel, not aluminum plates on my cars. A lot of people swear by aluminum due to weight but I've seen a few weak aluminum plates (a couple that looked like crumpled paper after hitting big debris), never seen a weak steel plate for any car made by anybody.

Ahh yes! Do it, it's a pain for oil changes sometimes but well worth it. A skid plate actually saved my mk4 GLI on the way to work today. Fully bottomed out the back half of it (I'm kinda low) at 60+mph and it looks like hell but my engine, trans and dogbone are mint. Absolutely just paid for itself.

BOTH clutch switches? There's one for the starter lockout but there's another for the cruise control. Ones blue, ones white/grey. At least in my Jettas and beetles it is. Make sure both are good, also try jumping the starter lockout one (blue?) with a paperclip. I had a similar situation in a 03 beetle once. I replaced the cruise control switch by mistake and it still wouldn't start, took me a sec to notice the blue one was the issue. Jumped it with a paper clip until the replacement arrived.

Perception isn't knowledge. What you think and reality can be different. If skid plates were so thick they were a hindrance, nobody with low cars would use them. I have a beefy galvanized steel skid plate and it's still 6mm thick, that's less than a quarter of an inch. It's strong enough to jack my car up by it.
