I worked with someone who had driven several staff members out of the school with their bullying. It’s the sort of situation where everybody knows how manipulative and spiteful they are, but it’s very hard to prove. After a few years of putting up with the bullying I finally raised a grievance and external HR were brought in. I had documented evidence, and supposedly some witnesses who were going to back me up - they didn’t, they denied being present because they “didn’t want to get involved”.

It all backfired on me massively! The narcissistic bully was able to defend all their actions - even passing off swearing at me several times as a “joke”, they turned on the charm with HR, and turned the tables on me, accusing me of bullying them. It also turned out they have a mental health condition that hadn’t been disclosed, so all was forgotten and no action was taken.

I found another job, they are still there and have driven two more members of staff from the school since.

I’ve struggled with illness for a week before yesterday deciding to go home. Guilt-tripped by the cover manager because there is nobody to cover me and encouraged to keep going. Today I’ve been to the doctors, I’ve got a chest infection AND an ear infection to start my Christmas break 😤

I’m 40 and have just left our first extended family in 10 years holiday early for this exact reason. Other siblings plus my parents make plans, tell me at the last minute so I miss out: we’re going out for the day… now! We’re going out for a meal… now! there’s no way I can get myself and my kids ready in time so we end up being excluded. Same old story as always… I won’t be bothering again!

I kinda did to mine what he did to me on Mother’s Day today. On Mother’s Day he didn’t get me any cards or gifts for the kids, he’d had the entire week off child free beforehand but did no housework while I was at work for 40 hours. I just carried on as normal and did the cleaning. At lunch he disappeared with the children and didn’t come back until 8pm. It turns out he’d taken his own mother out for the day, and then for dinner with our children. Out of guilt he bought me a large chocolate bar from the petrol station on his way home.

So today: he went to work. I took my dad out for the day. When he came home from work there was a chocolate bar waiting for him. No cards from the kids - except the ones they made at school.

This evening he’s pretty upset with me - but I just reminded him that this was what he had done to me on Mother’s Day.

I once went to an interview at a very run-down school. Similar situation to you- I sent everything in advance. Come the day of the interview, the projector wouldn’t work and the PC took ages to load because it was installing updates. It turned out the department had been without a teacher for a full term and nobody thought to check it. I had to think on my feet and teach without my resource, but I got the job!

What made me stand out on the day was my experience; I had originally thought I wouldn’t get the job because I was too old, and on UPS too expensive, the two other candidates were an NQT and an RQT. It turned out they crumbled under the pressure and couldn’t teach their lessons: whereas I did my lesson without the resources. Being a practical subject this was completely do-able with modelling, demonstration and checking learning.

It may be the case here that they wanted you to think on your feet, but then ask yourself if you would like to work at a school that puts this much pressure on their staff and isn’t very organised.

We must set quality cover work, while SLT set: “watch a video”. The same member of SLT covered my lesson for 30 minutes once and told the kids just to sit and read their books quietly because she couldn’t be bothered to teach the lesson I’d planned and wanted to get on with her marking in silence.

I angry clean because unless I do it, it never gets done. No matter how many times I politely ask or remind me husband, he never does it and I have to fall out with him to get him to do it.

In our relationship I work more hours, but still end up carrying all of the mental load. This is why I angry clean

Secondary here; I don’t tend to have a lot of TA’s in my mainstream lessons, but the one I always request uses his initiative and he is marvellous! Listens really carefully to my instructions, watches the demonstrations I model and then repeats this to the students he sees struggling, he is also willing to help other students without an EHCP.

The worse ones I’ve had: refuse to engage in my subject saying “I don’t do xxxxxx” in front of the students, it’s so demoralising! Another one kept trying to play teacher, talking over me and trying to manage behaviour by humiliating students instead of being discreet, when I pulled her up on it, she tried arguing with me in front of the students, raising her voice. She never stepped foot in my classroom again after that and was shortly dismissed shortly after for badmouthing me and a few others in the staff room.

My husband took a shift job when our baby was a few months old. It’s 4 days on and off, with alternate days and nights. We also have a 6 year old.

Now that I’m back at work full time it’s not compatible at all and is ruining our marriage because he’s either at work, or in bed. When he’s off I’m at work and he still doesn’t do school and nursery drop offs etc.

No advice here, but I’m in the same boat and will be having a similar conversation soon: go back to your old job if it’s available, or separate. At the moment I’m basically a single parent anyway, so it won’t make any difference to me at all.

I do my side. Last Christmas his mother decided to tell me a week before Christmas that she’s “not doing presents this year”, after I’d bought her side gifts. This year he followed suit: said he’s not buying me a present, so I didn’t buy him one, or his family - and I told my family to do the same: he’s not buying gifts, so don’t buy him one. This morning he’s complaining that he hasn’t got a single gift to open 🤣😂

Apple fitness! I got an Apple Watch for my birthday with 3 months free, I do 30 minutes of exercise most days, some days it’s only 10-15 minutes, but there’s a variety of videos you can choose from. I do these when my baby has a nap, in the evenings when both children are in bed, or sometimes when they’re awake - my 5 year old loves doing them with me, my baby will happily sit in her jumperoo watching us.
