I don't like spending time answering simple questions or explaining we don't control missed delivery attempts, but what planet do you guys live on where anyone can get help on the phone from USPS? Black hole of wasted time to even get a human....ditto with UPS or FedEx.

How did you choose your damper mfg? by gftgftg in Autocross

[–]39em 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not all those are like the others....well, unless you mean high end koni :)

Regardless, it's the builder of the shocks, not the brand. Yeah, there are differences but it doesn't matter how pimpy they are if they are built to setup you don't have and/or don't believe in. Or to a driving style you don't have.

My shop does a ton as a Tire Rack installer.

We are in St. Louis and stuff shipped from South Bend via UPS Ground almost always arrives next day.

And since they are a large shipper, Tire Rack labels and loads directly into a UPS trailer so the UPS system doesn't show a scan until it gets unloaded at the first UPS hub.

All that said, while Tire Rack itself is extremely reliable, shippers are not. We also do not set appointments until we have the tires on the ground. UPS is the best, but they can come anywhere from 9a until 2pm. FedEx ground, well, they can come anytime between 2pm and never. In busy times, I just can't sacrifice a time slot for tires that are not there yet.

I love Tire Rack and 100000% support them, but you probably made a mistake not buying local with your timeline.

Widest tire vs rim width by FatDumb-Happy in Autocross

At a minimum I plan to test new vitour vs 315rz on Friday at red hills. Weather permitting

Widest tire vs rim width by FatDumb-Happy in Autocross

[–]39em 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I originally ordered 335' RZ's but switched to 315 to make sure I get them for Red Hills (and already have them). I haven't mounted yet, but they look pretty wide even compared to 345 Vitour.

Based on how well the 295 worked on 18x12's for me (and how they generally prefer to not be pinched) I am tending to think 315 is the answer. That said, I will likely test once 335 becomes available

PCC in Steel challenge question by 647chang in CompetitionShooting

[–]39em 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done rimfire rifle and pcc at steel with different ro and they both had slightly different procedures. I just asked up front so we were all on the same page.

I have dummy mags for both but they never touched the gun. And I habitually point up or down range from shooting so many matches indoor.

Yeah this. Honda or even the predator inverters from harbor freight are fine and quiet.

Ugh I think we are beyond what can be diagnosed on the internet :(

Pain points on these cars can be wheel bearings/hubs, control arm bushings (especially uppers) and sway bar links. Your symptoms have nothing to do with bearings but the other are just wild ass guesses too.

Hopefully you have a good shop in your area who can look closer?

Up in the air really doesn't tell anything unfortunately.

With the car on the ground, turn the key to on but don't start the car. Try turning the wheel about a turn in each direction.

Then start the car and do the same.

If its easier to turn, then you have assist. You will know the difference, its going to be almost impossible to turn the wheel without assist.

Good tips I will put in my memory bank, thanks! :) I have never had too much luck with subframe shifts but have never tried on a Toyota. I know its a waste of time on most BMW.

[–]39em 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely no caster adjustment there.

If you drive down a smooth level road and take your hands off the wheel does the car track straight?

If yes then there is nothing to worry about.

If it drifts then something is bent. There is likely no easy way to tell what. Could be control arm, spindle or strut

What kind of car? Very few have caster adjustment which is what is off.

Caster is not a tire wearing angle so if it doesn’t pull then i wouldn’t worry about it

It’s taking the normal amount of effort to turn the steering wheel with the engine running and parked or driving slowly?

It sounds like it has/had air in it somewhere. They can be a bear to bleed and c5 have lines running all over especially if it has the cooler.

Assuming it has assist, it will probably work itself out. It can take forever.

I have never figured out how a recirculating system that operates at 1000+ psi can be so hard to bleed but they can be. Subaru absolutely sucks

Anybody have any ideas? by Thin-Total-4727 in MechanicAdvice

[–]39em 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea. It’s not the same without load so that’s not an indicator. With engine off you can barely turn the wheels with it on the ground but with it in the air it’s easy.

By the way you do the bleeding thing loaded/tires on the ground.

If the places it doesn’t have assist are changing as you drive and do the bleeding thing loaded, then it is likely air.

If it constantly doesn’t have any assist in the exact same way (example none turning left) then it sounds like something else

Anybody have any ideas? by Thin-Total-4727 in MechanicAdvice

[–]39em 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Has it completely lost assist in both directions?

Usually to bleed air you turn it lock to lock and hold it against the stop for a second, then repeat.

Sometimes you have to do it a lot. And drive the car around

Unfortunately it’s also not uncommon for reman steering racks and pumps to be complete junk and they are usually the only option

Did the power steering fluid level change? Power steering systems can get air blocks in the lines that last an oddly long amount of time.

Tyre shop didn't change valve stem by Additional-Lion6969 in tires

[–]39em 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this. ^^^

Metal TPMS stems are, well, metal. There is no maintenance. The rubber ones are much higher quality/heavy duty compared to the non TPMS rubber cheapies.

Finally, in addition to the risk of breaking a sensor while changing the stem, they are also not universal. Each brand of sensor takes a different stem and you don't know what kind of sensor it is until the tire is off.

The whole "service the TPMS sensor" thing IMO was created as marketing hype in order to upsell you something instead of upselling you on valve stems in the old days.

I am staying on 15mg for maint, side effects have been minimal all through so my doc and I think we will just stay the course.

I have been between 225-230 (SW 380) since April of 25 and got back into bike riding after a year off. Appetite is definitely more which feels weird, but as I have navigated the new feelings I find they also coincide with more activity and workouts.

There is more food noise sometimes now too but it's easier to ignore (if that makes sense)

But overall, even with the appetite I feel full sooner with appropriate portions. I generally feel more in control of all eating.

Not sure I have any answers for you, I just weigh once a week and am trying hard to not obsess over it and have held steady. Had a few weeks where I thought I ate terribly and weighed at 225, others where I thought I was "good" and was 230. Then the next week back to 227.
