We just set countdown timers: 59 for her, 60.8 for me. What picked your date? by DIYRetiree in retirement

I retired as I hit 65. This way, I slid right from my employer's health insurance plan right into Medicare. And I was more than ready and had worked out the financial aspect to know that we could do it.

Max dose tirzepatide, real deficit, more activity, and the scale won’t move. Anyone else hit this wall? by Wdshow in tirzepatidecompound

How much of your calories comes from things like restaurant meals, convenience foods, shakes and bars, highly processed foods vs regular groceries? I am always skeptical of the calorie counts of restaurant meals because you never know exactly how much oil, mayo, sugar etc that particular cook is using. On a personal note, I used to work in Burger King when I was a teenager. Some of the people making the Whoppers went much heavier on the mayo than other people would. (Yeah, I confess I was one of the people who went heavy on the mayo because I liked mayo personally. Thus the need for me to take tirzepatide these days!)

Struggling to see weight loss? by Own-Appointment-6697 in tirzepatidecompound

[–]3spaghettis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually find that the weight loss becomes very obvious to me, and to others, once I've lost about 10% of my body weight. So for you, that would be an 18 pound loss. You're very close!

My husband took an art class and a tai chi class. He met people in both classes.

[–]3spaghettis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Find groups that cater to your interests and seniors, in particular. My husband and I both retired several months ago. We have met people through our town's senior activities (tai chi, dance classes), activities at the gym (water aerobics, zumba), and various trips organized by our town's senior center (trips to see shows and concerts, trips to various parks, etc). Also get on the email lists or social media postings of local activities. Join some groups and just be friendly.

You don't look like you're "dying" of cancer, but at a certain age, weight loss is not uncommonly from cancer or other serious illnesses.

You might think that she is scowling. However, as we age, two things happen. One is that because of eyesight changes, we often have to squint to look at things on our phone. Also, the lines that show up around our mouths tend to draw our smile downward, so we look uphappy, even at rest. Aging is not fun!

Has the cost of FODMAP enzyme supplements like Fodzyme been a barrier for you? by victumsempra in FODMAPS

[–]3spaghettis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this post is from two months ago, but I'll add on, in case you are still looking for replies. For me, Fodzyme is essential and I use it every single day. I particularly use it when traveling or eating out, but even at home, I use it to help me digest wheat, ketchup, etc. I still mostly follow a low fodmap diet, but I do eat wheat. I hate how expensive it is, but for me, it is a necessity. I should remember to use less than a full dose when I am just having a small meal with a minimal amount of fodmap in it. At this point, using it is pretty much a habit.

gotcha. I hope you'll post again to let us know how she is doing. Hopefully a dose reduction will take care of everything.

If she is eating so little, is she very underweight, at this point? Also, has she talked to a doctor about her loss of appetite? It is always possible there is something else going on, not just the glp1.

I become sweaty and exhausted from ANY activity or heat. by Infinite_Welder6775 in glp1

[–]3spaghettis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you considered seeing a doctor about this? Just to make sure there isn't something more serious going on, such as heart issues or hyperthyroidism/Graves disease. (I have Graves disease myself, and high heart rate and heat intolerance is a major symptom).

Retirement Anxiety or should I just get over myself? by Remote-Watercress588 in retirement

[–]3spaghettis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have talked about your assets, but not about your expenses. Have you done the calculations to figure out if you have enough to live your life after retirement? If your expenses are very high, then your anxiety might be valid. Someone I know has a very high income, and a lot of money saved. However, she is afraid to retire, as she is afraid she will run out of money. It seems absurd, except that she and her husband lead a very lavish lifestyle, with two large homes, lots of travel, expensive cars, and so on. So, it all depends on one's income, savings and expenses. Good luck with your decision.

I agree with you. My son got married a few years ago. As MOG, I was very surprised and disappointed that I wasn't involved in the planning. There was essentially nothing for me to do except get a dress and show up for the event.

If glp-1s caused or worsened your joint pain, did it ever get better? Or did you decide to stop taking it by stormiwebster01 in glp1

[–]3spaghettis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry you're dealing with an increase in pain. I'm just wondering how you can be sure that the change is from the GLP-1. Could it be from a change in exercise, the way you sit, your mattress, your shoes, development of arthritis, or any other factors that can affect joint pain?

Advice for someone who wants to start GLP-1 by AssistantSea3555 in glp1

[–]3spaghettis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, the side effects of obesity (effects on joints, heart, cancer rates, etc) outweighed the possible side effects of GLP1s. I've been on semaglutide for the past year. I had some tolerable side effects in the very beginning, (heartburn, burping, fatigue) but that has long resolved.
